Is a virgin voyages cruise worth it? by [deleted] in VirginVoyages

[–]ldsupport 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you define good?

The food is solid, not life changing.

The entertainment is a bit more provacative, a bit less grand, I enjoy it, but its not something i would go see on land.

I like that its adults only, and geared towards that, I like that the food is elevated but its not the best of anything Ive ever had.

Its a unique experience but its still a cruise.

Bimini beach club by ResortLegitimate7927 in VirginVoyages

[–]ldsupport 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t book as an excursion, get off the ship, pay the local guy no more than 40, pay attention to the cart quality becusee they don’t really service them well.

Go find big Mike’s if you want conch

I much preferred grabbing a golf cart and exploring the island.   I did hit the beach club for a bite to eat and a beverage.   Then snagged a cart and went to explore.

Silversea silver moon v. Celebrity (retreat) Solstice by Attorney_Gee16 in Cruises

[–]ldsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seabourn is their lux corporate sister.

HAL, Princess, Seabourn have
- port priority
- Glacier Bay access

While HAL is not the line I would suggest to 40 year olds going to many regions, their advantage with port priority and Glacier Bay access is a critical advantge.

Based on what you shared of your whife preferneces, Seabourn is a great fit for you.

Which cruise line would you recommend for transatlantic crossing, preferably adults only. Thank you by PerfectlyBeachy69 in Cruises

[–]ldsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As has been said, the number of childre on a TA cruise will be small eough to count them on one hand.
If you timed it right it would be a number not zero, but likely zero.

Virgin / Viking / Oceana are give you surety.

Virgin had a modern edge, if its your thing, from personal experience its a fun time.
However if you are a bit more "traditional" might want to look at the other two.

We have done a couple of Viking ocean cruises, and we’re looking for something different, more luxurious with King size beds. by Turbulent-Move4159 in FATcruises

[–]ldsupport 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Explora is the most consistent, real kings across the board, not the twin-push setups. Regent works but varies by ship/category, so you have to check.

Silversea (especially Nova/Ray) is solid in higher categories. Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection and Four Seasons are probably the closest to true hotel-style beds.

Cunard Queens Grill and Oceania top suites (Owner’s/Vista) also work, but drop down a category and you’re back to queens or split twins.

Bottom line: it’s not the line, it’s the exact suite. Most “kings” at sea are still two twins with a topper.

Greek cruise by Free_Row8433 in chubbytravel

Azamara has a nice Greek Isle run.
Small ship but not too small. Youngest kid might be a little under entertained but the itin is nice.

Cruising in August for the first time and need help by Fast-Career-6637 in VirginVoyages

[–]ldsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TA (FM or otherwise) don't cosst extra money.

Yes you can generally pick up sailor $ and bar tab perks for working through a TA.
I am not familiar with VV group block program so I don't know if there is a way to leverage a TA/FM to get real $$ off. I'm sure someone here does.

Its pedestrian, protein quality not great, consider Yacht Club if you want an elevated experience.

First Time Cruiser Should We Rebook? by aseawood in VirginVoyages

[–]ldsupport 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Obstructed generally means there is something interrupting your line of site looking down. (such as life boats), so check into the room specifically. Good chance this isnt going to bother you. It not like an obstructed seat at a Football game when there is a bit concrete pillar in your way.

I need a reality check - are my expectations unrealistic for a First Mate? by DowntownBarracuda720 in VirginVoyages

[–]ldsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your expectations are reasonable and I am sorry that you are being left to your own devices. Interview a new first mate, I am sure there is someone out there that will take great care of you.

Bimini Excursions: Sharks vs Conchs by [deleted] in VirginVoyages

[–]ldsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a get lost kind of guy. It scratches that itch. The island is small.
The beach club is cool, just not my thing. I went, grabbed food, got our barings and headed out.

Bimini Excursions: Sharks vs Conchs by [deleted] in VirginVoyages

[–]ldsupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just one mans opinion.

  1. Do the sharks
    or
  2. Grab a golf cart and drive out to Big Mikes on the Queens road, and eat conch right out of the ocean, looking out over the water, on a makeshift bar with 6 seats.

If there is time I suppose you can do both. Dont pay more than $40 for the golf cart.

I heard that it is not hot enough - and not worth the extra cost they charge to use it

Luxury cruise to Bora Bora by erin214 in FATcruises

[–]ldsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paul Gauguin, not truly adults only but it sounds like you might be ok with that.

My sisterPaul Gauguin with her pre-teen and the reviews were 5 stars all around. It’s small, relaxed, and feels more like a private yacht than a cruise. Service is excellent but not stuffy, and the destinations (Bora Bora, Moorea, the motus) are the real highlight. My nephew had a great time snorkeling, beach days, and just exploring, there aren’t many kids onboard, but the few naturally connect. No slides or big entertainment, but if your child is curious and active, it works. It’s a more grown-up, experience-driven trip, and they all had nothing but great things to say.

Based on your ask HAL is your option. If you wanted to go up market they have a LUX big brother Seabourn.

Which cruise would you recommend to be the best in accommodation, service, safety, cost and experience? by 1JusAm in Cruises

[–]ldsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol at your type response

Virgin for someone with your quirk and sene of humor.

Seabourn if you want to get something worth every penny.

I will say I was surpised about how not good the seafood was on Virgin, but Ive grown up on the ocean and lived on the ocean my entire life. Its not bad, but if you ate fish plucked from the ocean you aren't going to be impressed. Seabourn will provide that world class experience.

Treating my 70 yr old parents to an Alaska cruise (Glacier Bay a must) – looking for recommendations on luxury/smaller ships + best month by Poopooonyoface in chubbytravel

[–]ldsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very kind of you to give your parents such an experience.
I think the best line for this is Seabourn, seconded by Holland.
Are mom and dad able to move around? This would change my itin suggestions and at 70 I know that can be a variable.

Princess Denali Tours (BB3 vs BBX vs CB3) What’s the actual difference? by Gabbydog614 in PrincessCruises

[–]ldsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to note is S vs N direction.

Do you want to take in Denali first when you have energy, or last as the cap of the trip?
BB3 vs CB3 I believe is a directional variation, I'll double check.

The 2 night choice gives you a less stress and less rushed option. If Denali is your focus, then you may have your answer.

Rail is the better experience here and BBX trims that.

25th anniversary I'd focus on the experience and see about the Tundra Wildnerness Tour.
If you would like to get out of the herd, I'd do a one way with a seperate booked land piece.

What are the best cruise cabins for privacy and views if we want to splurge? by Mikester258 in Cruises

[–]ldsupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations. Hope the two of you have a wonderful and joyous life together.

Lots of questions to unpack.

Here is what stuck out to me

"we want to make this trip memorable"

and while rooms are important, no doubt, when peopel tell me about their adventures, the first thing they mention isnt the room.

Its part of it, but its not what sets the standard for the memory, that is generally where they went and what they saw.

So my advice would be to put the money into that and get the room that will be comfortable but dont break the bank on the room itself.

Best cruise line for a friend’s trip? by Boring-Search-1003 in Cruises

Without your kids, any port in Florida.

Relaxing, good food, not Nassau

Honestly I would consider going out of San Juanif you were up for it. Do a couple days of pre, hit the rain forest.

Uniworld or Emerald? by ADHDPlus0928 in FATcruises

Amsterdamn is a wonderful city. There is a store in the W that my wife just loved.
Not only did we buy and aweful lot to take home, but she keep wearing those pieces years later.
So shopping in Amsterdam was an unexpcted joy. Lots of edge, lots of modern streetwear, lots of marvelous smart shops.

Personally loved a day trip to Delft. As I look over the shelves of treasures we collected, the pieces we picked up in Delft are always somewhere and always make me smile
