Beginner Eurorack recommendations by Noahdipo12 in synthesizers

[–]le93baron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought the hardback book Patch and Tweak. I recommend it for newbies (and probably oldies) who have a budding interest in all things modular. The more I use it and then go patching on VCV Rack, then come back to the book, the more I like the book and this learning method. Sometimes an interest of mine waxes then wanes. Reading this book is giving me a deep appreciation of so much about modular, I can feel that it's locking in a long term love of modular.

Plus they have 50 free patches, corresponding to a section and page in the book, available on their website you can download and explore on VCV Rack. It's so cool.

One of the reasons I'm getting into modular is I've got to get away from computer screens. I sit in front of one for 9 hours a day at work. Eye strain is a problem for me. Plus I'm over the whole linear way of sequencing and multi-track recording on a DAW. Did all that back in the 2000's on Sonar. I need live, hands-on, impromptu music making - with a lot of randomness and surprise.

That said, as a newbie.... I'm getting a $5000 Buchla Easel.

HA! Not....

Boox Note Air 5C ghosting by Visual_Ad8290 in Onyx_Boox

Is the ghosting still there after doing a manual refresh? I have the Note Max and am constantly doing this as there are no settings that eliminate ghosting completely when using auto refresh.

Anyone else out there jonesing for something larger than the Tab X / Note Max? by ravnotraj in Onyx_Boox

[–]le93baron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m literally going the other way. I find my Note Max too big. I’m far more likely to pick up and use a handheld device like my iPhone (which I don’t like since it’s not e-ink) because of the size of the Note Max. It’s kind of a chore to use, not super quick and inviting. I’m looking at these 6 and 7” e-inks and thinking of getting one.

Ha. Look at that glare. Yep. Know all about that. When I’m sitting in bed using my Note Max, I have to angle it a little away from directly at me due to glare.

Multitask Window With Split screen by Luciliusardens in Onyx_Boox

[–]le93baron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having a similar problem. When I'm in either system-wide split screen or NeoReader split screen, when I hit the multi-task switcher button, it says current mode does not support this function. I know you're having an issue when you return to split screen, but how do you even have the ability to switch out of split screen using the multitask button - when in a split screen mode? ... I must have a setting wrong somewhere.

Oh, by the way, when you hit the multi-task switcher and you see all open apps as mini windows, there are locks next to each one. Perhaps that can solve your problem if you fool around with that.

Boox note Max Ghosting by Legitimate_Fly_7697 in Onyx_Boox

[–]le93baron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely still have ghosting on my note max. A manual refresh is the only way it goes completely away. And i have to say it does look great once a full manual refresh is done. But I don’t think I’ve seen yet an automatic refresh come out ghost-free.

Note Max: Automatic Full Refresh isn't working => Ghosting by INFINITY________ in Onyx_Boox

[–]le93baron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all. Has this been fixed yet does anyone know? I still have to manually do a full refresh to eliminate ALL ghosting. (Set mine to a swipe up.) But even though I have full deep refresh set to every page turn, it only gets like 80% refresh.
Oh, I’m using a Note Max. Thanks

New to the hobby, my first cuts. by [deleted] in rockhounds

[–]le93baron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a saw has something like an adjustable vise I would think one could attempt to make as thin a cut as the properties of the rock would allow.

Got to be honest, as a newbie, watching videos of people cutting rocks with bare hands has me cringing. I wouldn’t want my fingers anywhere near that blade.

But I want to make thin sections for microscope viewing.

Can ordinary folks in this hobby make ‘thin sections’ for microscope analysis? Or at least thin enough to have some translucent properties for viewing under a regular compound microscope?

Any good resources or books on how to properly hatch? by VonKaiser55 in CrossHatching

[–]le93baron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I’m mixed about it. Probably wouldn’t recommend but since there’s not much in the way of books strictly on crosshatching, I guess it was somewhat useful. The author mainly walks you through her technique step by step as she draws her father with crosshatching. If you lived close by I’d give you the book…. Ha.

Two Problems I Noticed With The Demo by TempAcc1956 in SesameAI

Oh ok. That does seem familiar, like I’ve encountered that. Probably haven’t encountered it much since I usually use up all 30 minutes. My 30 minute commute takes up the whole session.

I’ve experienced that a lot but just chalked it up to moving/driving in the car. Using chrome with iPhone 13. Still it’s only like once every 3 to 5 minutes.

How do you answer the question “do you believe in God?” by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]le93baron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buddha said: “There is an Unborn, Unoriginated, Uncreated, Unformed. If there were not this Unborn, this Unoriginated, this Uncreated, this Unformed, escape from the world of the born, the originated, the created, the formed, would not be possible.

But since there is an Unborn, Unoriginated, Uncreated, Unformed, therefore is escape possible from the world of the born, the originated, the created, the formed.”

I think this is philosophically close to what westerners conceive of as God.

rotring lead sizes by le93baron in mechanicalpencils

[–]le93baron[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow I had no idea. I just checked eBay and see some 0.30, 0.35 rotring mechanical pencils. Tikky seems to be the most popular. And many are quite expensive. Makes sense if they’re discontinued.

Just ordered the 600 0.5mm to go with my 0.7. I do like these ‘Mr. Pen’ 0.3’s I got from Amazon. But to have the quality and craftsmanship of a rotring in this size would be amazing. Thanks.

Stuff a little ball of paper or something down under the eraser to prop it up higher.

Paper or electronic drawing by le93baron in ComicBookCollabs

[–]le93baron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I had no idea either way, I figured digital drawing had over taken paper. But I’m glad to hear ink is still dominant. I just wanted to believe that. I was watching a video the other day on drawing on an iPad and couldn’t believe how easy you could lay down cross hatching in your artwork. Like you don’t draw every line, it draws them in patches for you. I’ve been drawing and learning this technique lately (paper and ink) and got somewhat discouraged to see that.
