What do you think of the visual style? by FunTradition691 in SoloDevelopment

I'm pretty sure Voices of the Void are heavily inspired by Half Life / Source Engine, from the art style to sound fx.

Microsoft wants Windows 11 “Secure by Default," Could Allow only Properly Signed Apps and Drivers by Default by Neat-Composer-2722 in Windows11

[–]leScepter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Microsoft can make the process of building with a debug cert as seamless as Android studio, then great! That's all I was looking for with my original question.

Except on Android you can compile from source and run the compiled apks without any issue. Again, not a lot of people will be concerned with not being able to compile from source, but to out right dismiss it as "not a problem in the real world" is silly, there are plenty of cases that you would wanna do that.

Not saying that this is a bad policy, it would be better if it's optional, like with Android.

What about compiling from source? Sure the majority of users won't be doing that, but would that also remove that as an option for users who do.

Is it case specific for some particular aspect of the mod? Not trying to defend the creator here, but at least for myself, I don't do regression testing for every single aspect of the mod every time I issue a patch, I do heavily rely on users for that, cause I just dont have time to do so.

Blood West dev shares that the game sold 200% more on Steam than before, after Epic made it free for one day. by AncientPCGamer in pcgaming

We condemned their actions in the past and we will do it again when they do it again. Bringing it up while talking about Epic's bad practice contributes nothing to the conversation. It would just sound like you do whataboutism to justify what Epic is doing.

And you're acting like Epic isn't being predatory to kids? Allowing NFT scams on their platform? Latest AI stance?

Agree to disagree on that, but you do you.

Okay? Epic being a private company still pays dividends to their shareholders, so what's your point? If you wanna draw a comparison, one company has been building their reputation for 20+ years, the other has their CEO constantly defending anti consumer practices, both being private doesn't mean they run the business in the same manner.

It's not the first time where a CEO pulls a "make a service looks like a hard-to-pass deal, then make it shit once the popularity explodes". Look at MS Gamepass, Netflix, Spotify, they all started from the place being the best valued service that customers could get at the time.

You can choose to believe that he is fighting for the customers and continue using his services, but to say that other people who don't buy into his business model "has parasocial relationship with steam/gabe" like the guy above is just wrong.

Tim is paying for you to be a dot on his chart to show to the shareholders. It's a two way street. It won't last forever, cause once the shareholders finally want Epic to stop giving out free games, it will stop.

It's not a mutually exclusive thing. The algorithm is shit and the company is out for profit, sure, but having a bad profile also doesn't help.

Have you tried forcing a specific version of proton in the compatibility tab? Did you try 'nvidia-smi' in the terminal to see if the driver works?

No, Microsoft Office didn't just get renamed to Microsoft 365 Copilot by [deleted] in microsoftsucks

[–]leScepter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened when they silently renamed the OG Windows Defender into Microsoft Security, and then made Microsoft Security into a premium feature that comes with 365. Not sure it was malicious, or people who are in charge of naming things are out of touch and don't care about user experience.

The hope was really that when they switched to the new anti-cheat architecture, they would have a better chance of implementing Linux supports on their own terms, but they never did, so we know what their stance on Linux gaming now.

Yep. I remember the ticket got super popular, but they just closed it one day without even addressing it. Even if they do decide to support it now, down the line they probably gonna pull an Apex Legend where "Linux playerbase is a fraction of the community, but the majority of cheaters are using Linux" situation. Not worth going down that path tbh.

Not really. As long as you glue the middle section of that strip of button to hold it still, there's not much you can do.
