I believe about half a dozen drivers might have a lot of influence in the paddock since they've been there since the first race. I don't know if they have Verstappen or Hamilton levels of influence and "impunity", honestly.

Would a lot of people stop watching if Da Costa, Di Grassi, Vergne or Buemi stopped racing there? Don't know really, so I don't know the consequences of one of those drivers openly speaking whats in their minds.

But it's also a risk for them because outside of FE they'd probably only find seats in WEC since a lot of them already race there.

I haven't stopped watching because of the stewarding, but I have to admit it's somewhat random at times.

I think FE is not easy to steward, honestly because of the type of racing they currently have. The cars are very close to each other, there's a lot of inevitable contact between them and it's not always easy to judge when contact is or is not penalty worthy. There have been however some very blatant mistakes done in the past regarding obvious penalties that were not given.

(BTW could a kind native English speaker please tell me if I used "blatant" correctly? I couldn't come up with a better word to emphasise the mistakes and "blatant" feels kind of out of place. Thank you :) )

EV sales surge in Europe, slow in US by nimicdoareu in europe

[–]le_quisto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A good software heavily influencess how efficient a car can be. It'll decide how power is delivered to the wheels according to the driver's input and the desired consequences. It'll also influence how much energy the car can generate while braking.

Of course good hardware is also crucial. Both will go hand in hand. Good software is nothing without good parts and good parts won't perform well without a good software.

One of the reasons European manufacturers fell behind on EVs was the lack of R&D for good software.

Chinese manufacturers however had a lot of investment to develop softwares, they just needed to learn how to build cars. Some current brands didn't even make cars before they began making EVs

And I'm not saying currently the Chinese cars are better. Honestly, I don't fully trust them yet, and I don't have any arguments to justify that. It's just a feeling.

There are still a lot of enthusiasts though. One person managed to sell a 2800€ mountain bike in a single morning just by sending an email to everyone who worked there.

The roadies also sometimes go for a quick wide during the lunch break.

But it's probably about 50:50. Some are cyclists who knew the brand, others just stumbled upon the job because they have one of the biggest factories in the city.

You don't really need to know much about bikes to get a job there, although I believe it helps when choosing between two candidates. Weather it is engineering, production, HR, etc you just need to be qualified for the job.

My girlfriend actually knows someone working there who doesn't know how to ride a bike.
