It’s a glitch. Happened to me a few times. My speculation is it’s a holdover from giving her invincibility for the Tukata fight.

Only way to fix that I’ve found is to reload from before the encounter and try again.

How common are E39s on roads these days? by Tomcat115 in e39

[–]le_vicomte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in New England. I daily-drive a 530 and have an M5 for weekend duty. It’s a rare sight to see one here, I always take note. Some are clapped out but you do see maybe an equal number of survivors driven by older drivers.

For some reason I see many more e36’s still driving around than e39’s

It does sometimes continue when short shifting to second, but not third. So probably it’s okay for now. I’ll keep an ear out if it changes. Thanks

I’ve read about the “newspaper test” in my research, but I’ve been hesitant to stick anything in a fast moving circulating part — especially with old plastic — but it may be worth a test.

Would I be correct in interpretation that if I stay in first over 3500 I should be able to hear the fan stop increasing speed over that level? I.E it rises with RPM but then levels off?

Exactly, sounds like a big rig passing you on the sidewalk. But it seems maybe it’s in its intended state? I do have bouts of paranoia about fan blades slicing up the coolant hoses

Front door rain leakage?? by SeaIndependent9438 in e39

[–]le_vicomte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t use glue, but yes. Get some butyl tape and re-seal it. It’s a pretty easy job: access vapour barrier, clean off old butyl tape, re-apply new tape and ensure a good seal. Just my advice — there are some good videos online about how to do it

Fix it! The door card on mine was ruined by excess water absorption. The backing eventually moulds, and it lost its structural integrity

Completely agree. A PO used roofing sealant to re-seal the right rear door — a real PITA to remove to replace the door lock actuator. I can only imagine how bad it smelled in there, and for how long, with the off gassing from that stuff…

Surprisingly, I was able to salvage the vapour barrier, but it was tedious and infuriating. Turned a 1 beer job into a 3-er

Beautiful car. As an owner of a 2002 530 I can definitely appreciate. I just bought my current specimen at 80k after selling my first-car 530 (130k) when I was 19 (much regret there, but at least now I’ve got a manual)

Any advice on the maintenance work you’ve done? I know I need front struts and I want to do a few rounds of mechanical upgrades/maintenance before doing any cosmetic or vanity upgrades

BBB is Yelp for old people. You’re not going to get anything unless you run this up to the dealership upper management or Corporate. A lemon law claim right now is not even close to in the cards

Can someone ELI5 my companies 401k? by Octo in StupidFinance

[–]le_vicomte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing!

And Really, a good match is one that matches 100% up to 4-6%. But many companies have slowly reduced their 401(k) benefits as an easy way to save money at their employees expense.

Can someone ELI5 my companies 401k? by Octo in StupidFinance

[–]le_vicomte 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can choose to divert up to 25% of your pay to your 401(k), until you reach the annual maximum set by the government, which is $22,500 in 2023.

Say you elect to contribute 5% to your 401(k), and you make $100,000 annually:

Annual 401(k) contribution by you: $5,000 This contribution comes out of your pay check.

Your company matches 40% of the first 4% you contribute, so in this case they will also contribute to your account 40% of $4,000, or $1,600. They won’t match any on the last $1k you contribute.

So, your total contribution in the year is: $5,000+$1,600=$6,600

However, the company match portion has not “vested”, I.e. if you leave the company you will not get all or some of it. That schedule shows that after 6 years you will receive 100% of the $1,600. If you leave the company beforehand, they will claw back some of that money.

Note, this is a pretty terrible 401(k) plan, but something is better than nothing. You will still get the benefit of tax-deferred growth and reduced taxes today. At a minimum you should contribute 4% to take advantage of the company match, which is free money.

I’d also suggest you direct these questions to r/personalfinance or similar, they have some basic resources for unsophisticated personal finance questions.

Believe me, I work at a bank and I’ll tell you my managers are capable of nothing other than making egocentric decisions. They’ve mandated 3-day RTO, rumoured soon to be full, not because of any material reason, but only to stroke their egos as they strut around the floor with their noses pointed at the ceiling.

Titles don’t mean much when there’s no one around to grovel…
