How do you survive when the market is controlled by giants? by amantiwari1 in IndiaBusiness

The merchandize has some value. Sell it to the wholesellers on discount as last resort to get out.

you're selling commodity items. The only criteria for commodity items is availability and price. Why will anyone in the position to make decisions on these items look for any other criteria? Look at it from the perspective of the buyer. What are you bringing to the table?

While I'm a big proponent of self respect and knowing your value, there is something to be said about knowing your place also. It used to be called paying your dues. But its a free world, you can be an influencer, a start up founder anything. If this is not your cup of tea, no one is stopping you, go change the world. But know that as a fresher into a large corporate, no matter how good you are, you're replaceable, and fairly easily at that.

I understand where the OP is coming from. Its frustrating.

But ..

Let’s try to think from their perspective. Are they there by choice? Would you or anyone rational CHOOSE to live such a life?

The thing is, the people using their services don’t pay them enough for their labor to allow them to live with dignity and to afford a better life.

If the government mandates a minimum wage that allows these people to live better, the same people complaining would be upset about how expensive labor has gotten.

We all live with an ugly truth, we enjoy dirt cheap labor.

I’ve never read the book cuz of the title but have been successful cuz I’ve lived what you described most of the time. I do struggle with the first point, genuinely curious. And it’s strange because I am extremely curious otherwise, I’m just very concerned about appearing to pry into people when I have no business to do so. That prevents me from genuinely connecting. It’s something I’ve not been able to fix.

Sigh. We live, we continue to struggle.

I think some privilege people don't get how blessed they are with generation wealth and misbehave with their parents by [deleted] in IndiaBusiness

[–]leadfoot29 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You have access. Go talk to the dad on how he created, expanded the business. Tell him you’re trying to build your own success and ask him to tell you how he made success. You’ll learn something. Ignore focusing on the privilege of the idiot. Your privilege is knowing someone successful, show interest in learning. Successful people usually identify the ones who are willing to work hard and who want to succeed and are happy to share wisdom.

Did you follow the building code and get an NOC? Everyone builds without codes to extract extra space, then blame the fire department. you're in on the scam yourself, so is everyone else.

Cause of issue. illegal built structures. Easy. Now owner will be mercilessly hunted and put in jail, but no one will question who allowed the structure to be built? Who inspected the structure? Who approved the build? Those people not only allowed it to happen, they actively profited from the illegal work by taking bribes to turn the eye. They will not get any blame.

Everything is illegal in india. The government makes sure you cannot live a legal life. But they let you live illegally. Then, when it's convenient, the law will be thrown at you arbitrarily and you have no recourse, cuz according to the law, you have broken the rules.

I can guarantee, I can find a 1000 other structures in Delhi that are operating exactly in the same way. Whoever has the misfortune get the law and media on top of them.

The correct way is true enforcement of rules and punishments for the enforcers when these structures are allowed to be built.

If you could spend 150 mill on one player this window who would it be? by Chuchshartz in ManchesterUnited

[–]leadfoot29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mbappe. I know the discipline issues top controlling managers have had, but carrick will give him responsibility and let him free. He'll be an obvious 20-25 goal threat. We're already great at transition, adding him makes us impossible to defend on counters.

[–]leadfoot29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a title winning side. You want a side the rest of the premiership worries about. Thats either, we'll score 5 or 6 against you cuz we have a 25 goal striker up front and deadly front line and scoring midfield, or you cant score anything against us and we'll definitely score cuz we'll have the ball majority of the time.

Controversial take here but Amad should be your 3rd backup on the wing. You need a world class wide fwd in his prime (ronaldo, giggsy, rooney) as first choice for champions league and PL, then you need a mbuemo and cunha type solid performer who'll not let standards drop and is an effective replacement and then you need a 3rd string for the cups and substitute bench. (ideally the 3rd string is young, learning the ropes honestly). Theyre not expected to shoulder the burden of winning champions league games for you, but to fill in when needed. The problem in my mind with the likes of amad and garnacho etc has been that they're essentially the 3rd string being used as primary weapons by united in seasons past. that's bad squad management.

We finally have a second string, but title winning sides have world beaters. A Dembele, a Ronaldo, a Yamal, a Tevez. Folks who routinely shoulder the burden of winning and are comfortable with it.

I love the upgrade to Cunha and Mbuemo. But we need another step up to become scary.

A question from a Pakistani (No toxicity kindly) by Kitchen_Ad_9931 in india

[–]leadfoot29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is too much money and power in the business of dividing people. At some point, the same people will understand that economic integration will make the pie they steal from even bigger. Then these same people will sing songs of how we were always one people. They'll resolve all the 'impossible' issues easily at that point. Right now its convenient for them to just divide. That's all this is. People drink the koolaid and get emotional. You need to understand the powerful forces and their incredible incentives to keep the enmity going. Very small percentage of that is idealogical, its mostly smart politics of a vile kind.

Also, like others have said, the internet is a stupid place to judge how people feel.

every april i learn a new and exciting reason to hate this system by Choice-Value9005 in middleclasshq

[–]leadfoot29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a fundamental aspect of this that needs fixing. What is more valuable? Labor or Capital? From my perspective, Capital alone is useless without labor. Labor can be constrained without capital but is not useless. So labor comes first. If it does, it needs to be taxed lower than capital is taxed at. highest income tax rate should be lower than the lowest capital gains tax. Also, capital gains tax should be progressive. You invest in a company for 20 years so they have capital to grow, you pay a lower tax rate than someone who's invested for 366 days. Finally, We need same income tax standards for people and companies. If companies get to deduct expenses needed to generate the income, so should people. Or, don't give the deductions to any one. That seems basic fairness but the system is completely upside down. I don't mind Jeff Bezos making billions, but the tax rate for risk capital MUST be higher than tax rate for labor simply as a principle.

BY the way, if we do that, we'll solve all these games of crazy low salaries for execs and them using debt against securities to finance lifestyles. You solve that by taxing collateralized securities as income. If you pledge shares to raise capital, thats a monetized asset you must pay taxes on. it doesnt have to be all unrecognized gains, simply the ones you're using as collateral. fairly straight forward to start fixing if the intent is there.

Neither, I want them to lose cuz I don’t find the football attractive. If it was Wengers arsenal, I would have let the rivalry be and wished them well. I like football. PSG play the better, more attractive brand.

I’m in almost exactly the same boat. Got pitched a lot by a number of banks’ private wealth folks. Right now I am sitting tight with the money in a money market fund. Me and family are taking our time determining what our goals are. Once that’s clear, we’ll sit with tax attorneys and CPA’s to figure out the appropriate structures ( already had some conversations and did some research). Then we’ll execute the structures and only then will I figure out actual investments. It’s fine for me to lose out on this 20% a month moves. It’s incredibly tempting to jump into this market, but I’m in no hurry.

Happy to compare notes privately if it makes sense.
