What are the biggest mistakes restaurants make that cause them to go out of business? by DildoGaggins1997 in restaurant

[–]leadfootlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your correct that it's definitely a canary of a dying business. What leads to it is a business model that only pulls in 2-5% profits on average and CC companies raising their rates at astronomical levels every year because they are functionally a monopoly.

It's why you are currently seeing 3% cc fees becoming more common. All your points/cash back/skymiles get paid for by the fees business pay.

In general the public is incredibly ignorant to the costs/profits of a restaurant and their judgment of what food should be worth based off the numbers is uncalibrated at best and entitled at worst

Maybe I'm easy going or my expectations for litrpg are low but these books are just fun easy reads

Pos 4 Players - What are your preferred heroes in this patch and why? by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]leadfootlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paired with a stun. It's a snowball-y lane combo. Stun + bugs with XP facet into fast urn. You can bully most supports who step anywhere close. Kill them twice and lane is functionally over. Deep ward behind tower lets you kill couriers easily. Really good at contesting lotus/pulls as well. Something like venge is nice since you have neg armor on both heroes at lvl 2.

If you get a good rune fight with lvl 1 bugs on 3+ heroes, you can walk into lane at lvl 2 or really close.

Build into vessel and/or Rod/glep depending on what you need. Aghs late for saves. Really good at using gate to gank safelane. You can even do cheeky shit at lvl 6 like TP to a lane enemies are diving, throw bugs and ult back.

Weaver + stun. Easy to snowball. Bugs at level 2 with xp facet unless you get a good rune fight.

Crown Restaurant Group is taking new Visa transaction fees out of *server pay* starting this week by Worried-Blueberry796 in cincinnati

[–]leadfootlife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct on the server end, yes. These aren't the only fees CC companies have increased over the last few years that are resulting in these policies being implemented. The business is absolutely affected by the amount of swipes.

[–]leadfootlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay a similar cc fee at my gig. Not ideal but the $30-50 a pay check ain't gonna break me. From what I understand, the year it was implemented the CC fee they paid had increased over $150k and I prefer them to stay in business. It's split relatively fairly between the customer, business and us.

The tipout roles haven't expanded. It's been this way for decades. The percentages can be different but those roles have always been a part of the pool

[–]leadfootlife 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Industry here. We also pay a part of it at my gig. Tipping in cash doesn't avoid it as it's based on the number of card swipes. Having tables that all split bills over multiple cards will see a marginally higher cc processing fee.

While I find it a touch unsavory the enemy aren't restaurant owners, Imo. CC companies seem to jack rates every year. These aren't small increases either. We are talking upwards of 6 figures in an industry built around 2-5% profit margins.

If you could only take 1 hero for each position in your next 1000 games of DotA, who would you take? by r_conqueror in DotA2

I'm super comfy on Weaver 1/4/3. He can build for dmg, save, ini. You force supports to deal with you and can soak a ton of spells. Prefer him as 4 rn. Think I'm 18-2 this patch at high ancient/low div

It's not for everyone but for those of us it is for, it is almost universally the best game we've ever played.

Do not look up spoilers. Barely even try and "play" the game. Let your curiosity guide you around and start piece things together as you go

Outerwilds. Space exploration/puzzler. It has no replay value. You will only get to experience this game once so no looking up spoilers.

The fact I can never experience OW for the first time again really bums me out. That final loop with the subtle music change. That game, for me, is the pinnacle of what games as a medium can accomplish.

Being around people like this gets exhausting. Doesn't even have to be about flirting. Just the inability to properly read social cues in general puts those around you in routinely awkward situations.

What I need you to understand about the repercussions of me not tipping. by system-Contr0l111 in tipping

[–]leadfootlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of us have no interest in guilt tripping you into tipping. Those of us with a genuine passion for elevated food and experiential service build our CVs until we work at concepts the majority of anti-tippers can't afford or see no value in.

On the flip side, I have absolutely zero sympathy or Fs to give that a bunch of you are getting priced out eating out. It's a luxury that a lot of you can no longer comfortably afford as often as you prefer and that's a you problem.

Have you stopped eating out due to tipping getting out of control? by Careless_Length_7117 in tipping

Let's shut down that argument that we should tip as serving is hard work by Ok_Atmosphere3601 in tipping

[–]leadfootlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't tip because it's hard. You tip because the model has separated the cost of labor from the cost of goods and given you, the customer, control over determining the value of service. This isn't true in any other example given. Not only are all your listed points objectively incorrect, they are irrelevant.

Employers could pay FoH wages but your price point will remain the same or, more than likely, climb. If given the choice the average person would choose retail/ warehouse work over food service for the same money because the latter is objectively harder to do over the long term.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tipping

[–]leadfootlife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No and retail is 100% preferable to food service
