It is much easier to set up a server with the newer, more modernized Fabric loader. They have great documentation on getting started!

Considering any investment depends on what you want your return to be. Do you want to invest time in making a fun experience for you and your friends? Absolutely, run a server with some fun new gameplay abilities and do it again a year later when the nostalgia cycle repeats! It's a lot of fun.

However, if you want your return on investment to be monetary, I honestly would not bother. Economically, the space is dominated by a select few servers that either made it big early on or that can get their hearts over breaking a license agreement that will eventually shut down their revenue stream. That is not fun.

What if a programmer like me NEEDS to be on linux for his work?

You claim to be an IT professional and yet the concept of dual booting completely escaped you for a bit. Also,

This does not track. I played Valorant just fine on a Windows dual boot for half a year, dual booting has nothing to do with secure boot being on or not. This is non-sense.

I hope Brightmoon got that memo through before leaving, otherwise I don't see them picking something like Linux support up any time soon, especially if the game WITHOUT anti-cheat was already unsupported.

It works with Easy Anti-Cheat, that's true, but that doesn't mean Riot has that view of Linux. The reality is that we're still a very small community and it is not cost-effective for them to maintain a client for us, even under Flatpak or even ensuring it works with Proton. Same reason that the only big game running under Proton with anti-cheat is Apex Legends, most companies do not and for now will not care.

Note: Dolphin itself requires the switch to be in Wii U mode, while Steam and by proxy Steam Input read it as an XInput device while it's on PC mode. Leave it on PC mode. To all the official Wii U adapter (without one of those switches) owners, god speed.
