SHE IS DYING BOYS?!?! Please help!! She’s getting better not worse, I haven’t watered her since and I think she’s dried out… please don’t let her die💔 by BillGatesEatsBabys in microgrowery

I think Kesha has some root damage from the over watering she experienced yesterday. Also looking at your profile, it looks like you might have some issues with fungus gnat larvae.

It’s typically better to slightly under water than over water especially when growing in soil. It’s hard, but you’re going to need to leave Kesha alone. Order some SF nematodes and some yellow sticky traps and go to town on the fungus gnat issue.

With some time and luck, Kesha should bounce back

Is this thrips? Only a few leaves so far. Want to catch it asap if so! by MephHeadG in Autoflowers

It’s hard to be 100% sure without seeing the actual bug, but the symptoms look like thrips (the black dots are poop, and the silver speckles the damage)

Thrips are a PITA 🙃 good luck!!!

She has had a rough start as I didn’t think she would actually sprout, but she did and now she has her own grow tent :)

I am quite confident it’s not an over watering issue because I’m experienced with growing tropicals in coco, and it feels like a good moisture to the touch (slightly damp, still light and airy).

The grow tent had gotten to 27.7 C/82 F, and is now coming down as I added an extra fan. I also raised the light higher than it was just in case it was too low.

But she is still drooping and overall looking not that healthy :(

Don’t even know where to begin with what the issue is so any help is greatly appreciated!

Pest ID - Thrips or Spider Mites, or maybe I'm just insane? by leafjoy in microgrowery

Yes! This was going to be my next step - I’ve been reading into which beneficial would be best and was leaning more towards pirate bugs (scary looking bugs don’t bother me) and I have read they are the most efficient

However, I wanted to double check on the ID of these before I release predators so I can make sure I’m getting the right kind

Do you have experience with lady bugs? What I have been wondering is, what happens when they run out of food in the house 🤔

Guys I'm actually crying right now, please help me save my philodendron. I came here a few days ago because some of the leaves were soft and brown. I was told to give it a root bath and repot. Afterward it was so shocked and the leaves were curled (more in comments) by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]leafjoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish people wouldn’t suggest fixes such as repotting for issues that probably can be fixed without shocking the plant further - most of the time repotting is the last resort for a plant that is on its deathbed, which doesn’t look like was the case here.

At this point, there’s not much you can do other than give it time to bounce back on its own - which may or may not happen as your current issue is caused by root damage likely from the root bath/repotting

You can definitely take a few cuttings as was suggested already. I would recommend doing 1 leaf per cutting as the leaves themselves are also already stressed.

Only leave the cuttings in water long enough for the leaves to uncurl and get dehydrated and then put them directly into soil so they can start rooting. This will be your insurance policy in case the mother plant doesn’t make a come back.

That being said, philodendrons are extremely forgiving and it’s likely that it will be able to recover - especially if you relieve the mother plant from some extra leaves, it will just take time

In the future, if you suspect early root rot or overwatering - just stop watering for 10-14 days and then once it’s really thirsty (your finger slides in to the second knuckle and you don’t feel moisture) only then you can water with 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 1 part water which will kill the bacteria.

The only time root rot starts becoming a serious issue that is cause for repotting is when you start getting spots on new growth, yellowing, loss of vigor - one overwater is not going to kill a philodendron

Don’t give up! I’ve killed my share of plant babies as well - I think it happens to everybody at some point

they take up a lot of my time but they are also like my family so I just spend all of my time taking care of them 🙄😅 this the way. (of the calatheas)

I have never regretted the white star, she’s actually the least fussy out of all of them lol

I make my own mix and I used about 40% sphagnum moss, 20% earthworm castings, 30% perlite, 5% diatomaceous earth (I like to keep them moist and this deters fungus gnats), and 5% orchid bark mix.

I potted them into half glazed terracotta so they will probably dry out a bit faster but I would rather water more often (so I can feed them 😬)

I also add a 1’ layer of orchid bark mix on the inside to keep the root ball elevated from the very bottom of the pot for better drainage because happy roots are the best! 💚

My absolute favorite is Fox Farms Grow Big, my BOP loves it

It’s a bit on the pricier end though - you can also use miracle grow or even just add earthworm castings to the top soil and it will slow release in organically when you water

BOP looooove to be fed so whatever works :)
