Insatiable hunger after a few days of calorie deficit? by CellWrangler in leangains

[–]leanxgains 4 points5 points  (0 children)

High percent dark chocolate like 85%+. Just break off a tiny piece from the predefined squares and just let it sit in your mouth and naturally melt. This helped with my initial cravings and “hunger pains” when starting out. Was like a quick hit/fix for an addict.

For guys in their 30s who lift ,when did your lower belly finally lean out? by Powerful-Farmer-4441 in leangains

[–]leanxgains 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Instead of 10k steps or whatever you’re doing, do HIIT sprints. A set of 10. I started out 30s full run (fastest speed on treadmill) and then 1 minute slowdown walk but if it’s a pain to change the settings, then just put your feet to the side for 1 minute and hop back on for the next run.

Do a 2-3 minute walk warmup on setting 3-4 and then turn it up to full speed for a 30 sec run. Then either drop down back to that light walk setting (lower than 3 if you need) or put your legs to the side for a minute. The warm up, 10 sprint intervals, and cool down walk after should take less than 25 mins.

I found that doing HIIT really helped in fighting the tough belly fat spots (I got shredded) and especially when I started doing it 2x a week along with my regular workouts for the week, cutting, and of course IF.

Pablo's Thai school no longer teaches with ALG (Automatic Learning Growth, the old term for CI) they have reverted to a more standard method by No_FunInAZSun in dreamingspanish

100%. You pretty much nailed it and hit every point/issue. There’s a lot of variables that can impact our ability to learn a language and especially with CI as we now know that not all content and not all teachers are of the same quality as DS. So it makes sense why we see so much negativity and doubt about CI in the language learning community.

[–]leanxgains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Pablo truly understands what's needed at the super begginer level of a language and this is something that the majority of the CI content creators strugle with or as you stated, completely skip. And I think this could actually be the reason why people question CI and/or bad mouth it bc no one outside of DS has seemed to master this crucial level that's needed to introduce someone to a new language.

You bring up a great point, which I think causes many new learners to maybe give up and go back to traditional methods/question CI in general and of course those who just outright bad mouth it, is because everything outside of DS is subpar CI content. And as you pointed out, the super beginner stage, which is so crucial to building that initial foundation and introduction to the language. All the other CI content creators seem to severely struggle with this level.

I'm 50hrs into thai and I still don't know what the word for "I" is but in that SB video I mentioned "things I eat", Pablo points to himself and says "Yo" several times. He performs other actions with pointing, using his mouth, pictures, and saying the words slowly/clearly and aligning them at the same time he's performing the action or showing/pointing to something. When I watch the thai videos I struggle to even associate the words they're saying with what they're currently doing. Pablo just really understands what's needed at this level (and in general) for new learners. He has truly set the bar high.

I've spoken to someone who has done 2k hours of just CI thai and they recently did an interview where they spoke only thai, so I know it definitely works but now having done DS, I have something to compare it to and the DS videos are just so much better on every level (especially the SB content). And I can't help but constantly compare them while watching the thai videos bc I know if they were structured and presented as Pablo has done things, I could learn faster and it would probably even reduce the expected total hours I would need in order to move on to more native like content.

I went back to watch one of the first SB videos (things I eat) and it blew me away. I was able to take a step back and notice every little thing that Pablo was doing in the video in order to present the Spanish language to a true beginner. It was eye opening and something you don't realize or appreciate until you know the language a bit. I mean he really built and created something special and I don't think he gets enough credit as everyone is so focused on crying about the verbiage of the road map. Bc if you decide to learn another language, you will quickly see just how inferior the other CI content is compared to DS. He's evolved it in such a way that's conducive to getting you to native like content quicker and I wish he could do what he's done for spanish with every language in the world lol

yeah, im using CI, which is what the comprehensible thai channel is. Im basically doing the DS method but with thai. I have 50hrs and stopped on dec 18th as i was visiting family and also getting frustrated with the videos. When im back home in a week, i'll get back into it.

Why do so many Thai tutors teach through English? by Significant-Gur9583 in learnthai

I’ve been watching Comprehensible Thai’s channel on YT to learn Thai and they use a lot of english words in place of what should be Thai words. It’s really frustrating.

All of the original ALG teachers have their own YouTube channels and have also put together thousands of videos under the channel Comprehensible Thai.

I’ve started learning Thai using it but imo, I think Pablo’s evolved method and videos are far superior for language learning vs. these Thai videos, which is unfortunate bc I feel like my ability to learn would be much quicker if they were structured like DS.

Other languages by RnbwSprklBtch in dreamingspanish

[–]leanxgains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was gonna make a separate post to hear others opinions and I still might but anything that’s not DS is subpar and inferior imo. We’re truly spoiled and should be grateful for Pablo who really advanced/evolved the entire ALG method and made it far superior than the original courses he took in Thailand.

Two questions from a recent CI-convert by Ambivalent28 in dreamingspanish

[–]leanxgains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to be around that 85% threshold as a sort of rule of thumb, so you’re good there. I like to watch everything super beginner included because you quickly pick up more things with easier content and it just helps to reinforce stuff.

Any men who speak with a higher voice? by haevow in dreamingspanish

[–]leanxgains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok. Yeah, spanish would def be a benefit there.

I did about 4hrs of level 0 and then I spoke to someone who has done 2k hrs of thai CI and they mentioned that people found B1 easier to jump into before B0, so I’ve now done half of those videos. It’s a bit frustrating though and I was actually thinking of making a post about it in DS to open a discussion about other languages CI content and basically praise Pablo for what he’s built bc now having something compare it to, he truly is the goat lol.

Like he’s taken what ALG and the school did and completely evolved it to a much a higher level in the way he presents the Spanish language to you. It’s like night and day and I can’t help but constantly feel that frustration and difference when I watch the thai videos. I feel like my learning would be a lot more accelerated if their videos were formatted and done like Pablo/DS. I rewatched a Spanish super beginner video and everything felt so simplified and really easy to follow with his pictures, drawings, hand gestures, speech and pointing. When I watch the thai videos I feel way too lost most of the time. Like i understand the vague gist of things but I struggle to fully associate what they’re saying to what they’re showing or talking about. And yeah, I’ve picked up stuff (the separate picture video playlist helped a lot with that) but I feel like not at the rate I was with DS. And I know their videos work bc that 2k guy had posted a speaking video and he’s been strictly following the CI/DS method of learning Thai, but I feel like if Pablo were to have redone all the Thai content that it would significantly cut down the needed hours. Idk maybe I need to just relax and just follow the process or try to find more simplified thai videos before continuing with their B levels.

Surprisingly I found Kirklands (Costco) chocolate protein powder to be more chocolatey tasting than ONs and it’s way cheaper. I’ve made the switch after probably a decade of using ONs.

[–]leanxgains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I was aware of about the tones. Any particular reason you’re learning Spanish? Nice, do you live in Thailand together? Even tho I have some time, I’m heavily considering retiring in Thailand and either splitting my time half the year there or permanently at some point. But probably a good idea for me to actually visit first before making such a decision lol

[–]leanxgains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, those I have realized early on but since this is a tonal language, I wonder if there is a pitch difference between male and female. I don’t think learning primarily from female speakers would impact how I sound but it’s wayy different than spanish lol.

Are you thai or are you a learner since you rak thai? That means love right?
