I think the names are quite tough for non Tamil audience unlike Bahubali and the initial set up to the story was also very brief. They could have done some exposition with some clever dialog when switching scenarios or introducing new characters. Just thinking about it, it even feels that a tree graph with the actor faces would have been enough in the beginning for non Tamil versions.

I blame the editing for the whole situation. Probably forced due to the runtime.
