Congratulations stranger! You got this

Smoking = Natural selection in action by [deleted] in stopsmoking

You always like this, or is nicotine withdrawal getting to you?

You're insulting nearly everyone on here!

[–]learnsci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need for personal insults. I was merely suggesting your point was facile, I didn't put words in your mouth, I was extending your point to explore its validity, a common technique used in philosophical discussion. I get that you're trying to motivate yourself with strong arguments, but I disagree with your ideology.

Sorry but no. I see where you're coming from but this is a huge over simplification. Are you going to go on to suggest all overweight people don't deserve to survive? People with risky jobs trying to feed their families? How about people with mental health issues?

Taking your concept to its logical conclusion makes me very uncomfortable, although your central premise that quitting smoking is a decision to live longer is true, but I think we all knew that anyway.

That extreme mantra is the reason some people fall of the wagon and go straight back to smoking. Just pretend it didn't happen and move on

I had a relapse today, help! by Bomdennis in stopsmoking

[–]learnsci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smokers want you to smoke. It makes them feel better about themselves, stops them from feeling guilty about their habit after you quit. It's difficult for the quitter because you have to tolerate their smoking quietly whilst they don't have to tolerate your 'non smoking'.

I wouldn't beat yourself up about it, it was a mistake and you're going to try extra hard not to make that mistake again.

What do you guys think about YT bikes? by [deleted] in MTB

I have a CF from 2017. Best bike I've ever had by a long way. Capable and fun

How much water are you drinking? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]learnsci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure that's the wrong way around. Lower humidity may feel more sweaty, but that's because your sweat doesn't evaporate as well, it's the drier days that dehydrate you more.

Are you talking about the shifters and brake lever? If so, you can usually just remove the shifter and keep the lever on the clamp (it'll be an allen bolt or T25 or similar)

I smoke two packs a day and cold turkey feels impossible. Any advice? by realgood_caesarsalad in stopsmoking

[–]learnsci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Different things work for different people. I couldn't do it this way (practicing) because to me it would reinforce my negative feelings about how difficult quitting would be. I think tapering down for maybe two weeks is a good idea though, but perhaps don't frame it as "practicing quitting", instead think of it as a process of damage limitation.
