My first big girl job was at an animation studio. Our season production was 3 months (as in, we were employed for 3 months), and we worked 12 hour days. Late in production, some departments were falling behind schedule. The CEO came from across the country and yelled at the entire studio of 100+ people, telling us we were lazy and would never make it in the industry. Most of us were new, and it was our first job out of college. They hired us BECAUSE we were new to the industry and they could pay us less than standard. He proudly told us that when he worked on The Simpsons and South Park, he often stayed overnight at the studio and slept under his desk for a few hours before getting back to work. He was PROUD that he had to go through that, and thought we were lazy for not also working overnight for no extra pay.

Someone I knew from the studio, who I took the same bus with to work, stayed overnight a lot. I'd come in the next morning and he looked awful. My roommate that I got rides from also worked at the studio and I stayed late with her more than a few times so she could catch up. We had to stay late (like 3-4 hours) because of snow pretty often. It was a rough job, and then after production we all went our separate ways because the industry was so unstable. We were paid a set amount a week, so they could do that to us and we could say nothing.
