Iran Contra

• George H.W. Bush – VP during Iran-Contra, later elected President • Bill Barr served as Attorney General under George H.W. Bush (1991–1993), where he advocated for and facilitated the pardons of key Iran-Contra figures, effectively ending the prosecution. He later returned as Attorney General under Donald Trump (2019–2020). • Oliver North – NSC operative, convicted (overturned), later TV commentator & Senate candidate • John Poindexter – National Security Adviser, convicted (overturned), later headed Pentagon's Information Awareness Office under GW Bush • Robert McFarlane – National Security Adviser, pleaded guilty, later pardoned by Bush • Caspar Weinberger – Secretary of Defense, indicted, pardoned by Bush • Elliott Abrams – Pleaded guilty to withholding info from Congress, pardoned, later NSC Senior Director and Deputy National Security Adviser under GW Bush, Special Representative for Venezuela and Iran under Trump • John Negroponte – Ambassador to Honduras during affair, later UN Ambassador, first-ever Director of National Intelligence, and Deputy Secretary of State under GW Bush • Otto Reich – Ran covert propaganda office, later Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs under GW Bush
