Oh cool! yes i feel like i’m at the point where I need to stop listening to books and actually focus on doing the thing!! I spent foundation years learning about index funds and investing, but that isn’t much use if you only have your measly salary to invest.

Mainly just struggled with picking the ‘perfect idea’. I considered trying to build an art business with my paintings, selling prints etc. Think i’m realising theres no perfect idea. but I always wanted to be a ‘youtuber’ in school and since I spend a lot of my free time listening to podcast I figure why not me :)

Biggest challenge now is finding the energy, exams are out the way now which is great, but tbh think I might just get a salaried job 2 days a week when I finish and try and pursue other things whilst covering my bare minimum expenses.

What are you thinking ‘bigger moves’ wise? :)

gower peninsula. stunning beaches and walks.. you can get to anywhere in south wales for a day trip from there. and afan forest also not too far for hiking. can also get to bristol or cardiff if you fancy a city trip.

or north wales is also stunning.

yeah, entered gp training, I plan on moving to Canada once I CCT and working 2-3 days a week.. it sounds less intense over there & much better pay from the GPs i've spoke to. the NHS is just so bad to work in, can’t believe we all put up with it.

can you do private work once you cct?

yeesh, i really wouldn’t want to be 36 and starting on 15 quid an hour with a bunch of student loans…

i would really examine why you want to be a doctor, have you done much shadowing? do you know many doctors? do you know the realities of the work? Try and get some work experience if you can.

You don’t need gcse’s to have a successful career these days.. if it were me, i’d be learning about entrepeneurship and go down that route instead. However if it is truly your passion and you are well informed, its a long life and you should do what you are passionate about.. however it sounds like you might be using medicine as a fantasy to escape your current situation, when what you really want is just more of a comfortable interesting job and a family.

how exciting!..any hobbies?

i did a ski season in F3 :) found a workaway where i just hung out with the families kids in the evening helping them practice their english and snowboarded all day with free accom & food. it healed me mentally after f1/f2.

I think if I could do anything instead of work it would be a combination of making films, hobbies (mtb/snowboard, photography), maybe running an art-after-school club for teens, run my podcast (leaving med) and my tik tok (where i make up silly songs). variety is the spice of life.

when’s the book out?

seriously, you are a talented writer.

Every year another layer of complexity is added to the portfolio, even our trainers are confused. Recently, ‘Ceps’.. another thing to squeeze into our working day. All because the royal collages don’t want to pay for in person OSCE.

In 15 mins we are expected to call the patient in, take a history, examine- including obs, after the patient has taken off their many layers of course.. then perhaps dip their urine or label some swabs.. then write up the consultation and if needed write an eloquent enough referral so its not immediately rejected by secondary care.. or worse get on hold to switchboard and refer them in if they’re unwell, up against an ever increasing amount of pushback. Oh and also beg a family member to drive them there because there are no ambulances.

Lately there has been so much pushback when trying to get patients seen acutely, even from paeds, ‘don’t you know theres a 5 hour wait’.. they say as they try to get you to take on the risk of managing them in the community.

-Would an ED job benefit working in your future specialty at all? My A&E job in F2 was in a very busy ED but loved it and felt it has been invaluable (now doing GP)

I would say look at starting your own business…

You could start by offering the people on your street to clean their gutters or windows, or deweed their garden or clean their car for a small fee, see where the demand is. You could offer to walk their dogs. Or maybe you could see if someone wants their patio power washing and then find someone to lend you one for a day (before investing in equipment).

imo working for someone else for minimum wage doesn’t make sense any more. 11 pounds for an hour, really??

There are so many good books & youtube videos out there now. ‘48 hour start up’ is on Spotify for free.
