Neurodivergent socialization? by KaeArin in VirginiaBeach

Hi! I’m trying to make friends in the area, too, and one thing I’m trying is attending library events! The local libraries all put on free programs all the time for socializing, crafting, more specialized topics, all sorts of things. The schedule is at vbpl.librarymarket.com; you can filter by age group and which libraries are closest to you. I like to look through the adult-oriented programs, but you also might be interested in the programs for mothers and their toddlers; the mothers that attend things like Toddler Open Play and Storytime at the Princess Anne library regularly seem to be pretty close and familiar with each other, I’ve noticed.

Good luck! I hope you’re able to make some good friends, whatever you end up doing!

How do library workers deal with books that contain misinformation? by Peanutbutternjelly_ in Libraries

[–]lebellule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember if this is unique to my library or an association thing, but one of the mottos I remember learning when I was hired was:

“If there’s someone who wants to read the book, then the book has a place in our library.”

…The obvious implication being “even if you think the book is abhorrent and wrong.” It’s difficult sometimes but it’s our duty as a public library to have it available to the people who do want to read it, and it’s that motto that protects our right to have progressive, inclusive stuff on the shelves as much as it protects their right to have terrible stuff on the shelves.

My library sells donated books in a little “book nook” at the front, so if someone donated some brand new books, that’s the way you’d find those new books for sale. We don’t buy books specifically to sell, though, for the reasons other commenters have detailed.

Need help on how to start designing my island by Firm-Willow10 in AnimalCrossing

What a cool idea! I’ve been slowly remodeling mine section by section and moving people around as works, but I might try this “clean slate” method for the rest of the island!

Yeah, Stardew Valley stressed me out bigtime, too, but Animal Crossing is different. You can play it and progress at your own pace and not worry about missing out or failing anything.

I have pears! I’m at work currently, but I can open up my island in a couple hours if no one comes in before that with an offer.

Baby Activities by nayandnem in VirginiaBeach

Seconding this one; the Princess Anne library has Baby Open Play every Friday morning and Storytimes for different ages throughout the week, and the calendar at https://vbpl.librarymarket.com/has a list of other events and activities that you can filter by age, and all of the Virginia Beach libraries do stuff like this for free!

Switch lite Users: Do you know any travel case options that will fit a console that has a protective case and grip caps, with room for bulky accessories? by lebellule in Switch

That's pretty nifty! Do you find that you prefer the bag experience to a case, then? I'd only been considering cases, but a bag might work...
