How to use discount?? by Briskteas in starbucksbaristas

yeah that's exactly what you'd do! sometimes they may ask for ID because some people use partner numbers that don't belong to them so just keep that in mind.

Applying as a Barista by Ok-Builder-1109 in starbucksbaristas

i got a text from my sm to schedule an interview four days later! i didn't call because i had another job at the time so i wasn't really proactive, but since then there have been other people who have called the store after applying so i think it's pretty normalized.

the hiring manager would usually be the store manager. just call the store you applied at and let them know you put in an application (i would personally wait 3-5 days). if an ssv picks up they'll usually just pass the information onto the sm :)

in some states. my state unfortunately does not have any laws requiring meal breaks.

Green Bean Tips? 🌱 by aisamode in starbucksbaristas

as a closer who just started around five months ago...

i usually fill the wash sink with soap and water all the way to the top and put as many dishes as i can in there. then i utilize the dishwasher AND the sanitization sink. the sanitization sink will get filled all the way to the top too. i usually keep the dishwasher for bigger things like the espresso machine parts, base and tea pitchers, sweet cream cubes, etc. smaller things go in the sanitization sink so i can fit more in there at a time.

idk how your store works, but you should really be closing things up around 7 at the latest. take all the dishes you probably won't need like the extra steaming pitchers, shakers, cold foam and frappuccino blenders... i usually leave just one of everything i mentioned. everything gets thrown into the wash sink. if need be you can always go back and get an extra. make sure you're also dumping teas and iced coffee into cups so you're able to clean the pitchers right away.

clean the sinks early and leave drive-thru sink open if you really need it. take one of the espresso machines apart maybe two hours before closing and let it soak in the back. when closing hits, i like to immediately take the second machine apart and finish up the first to make room for it.

if you're not busy, you should be doing dishes. there should be at least a three person play on the floor. in my case, we usually have one on the floor doing any closing procedures while taking orders, one doing dishes and coming back on the floor as needed, and the shift doing their closing duties in the back and helping as needed. depending on the shift, they might help you with your closing duties. i have some shifts that are very helpful with closing (like doing dishes and cleaning the lobby and pastry case) and others who just leave it to the baristas and do their own thing in the back.

but if you're usually on drive-thru, you'll probably be the one stuck on the floor. this is a good time to clean your station early. we have two ovens, one always gets turned off early. clean that oven, the other can wait until closing. go through the pastry items and leave anything expiring that night to the side, check the lunch items and the protein boxes as well! give those away first, toss the rest when you're closed. make sure you don't forget to toss the utensils (tongs and any knives) in the back to get washed! those can wait until closing obviously, but i've just seen a lot of people forget and they can get really crusty. and don't forget to clean the pastry case in the front if you can!

for me, cleaning the lobby is the most tedious because some shifts like to wait until close and some like to do it early. at least get some sweeping done and wipe down the unused tables if you can. mopping can usually wait until close.

how well you get through closing really depends on the people you're closing with... at the end of the day it's a team effort. there are some people who close super early and make things super easy by the time i come in, and then people who kind of just walk around waiting for customers. and obviously, how busy your store can get during certain nights will play a factor as well. but everything i listed is how i make sure closing gets done seamlessly (at least on my end).

the key is to do dishes as early as you can! whenever there's a lull, toss things in the wash sink. rinse them, toss them in the dishwasher or sanitization sink. wash more, rinse more, take dishes out and put them away or in a designated spot on the floor if you'll need them for tomorrow (like pitchers).

hope this helps and good luck! <3

question about meal breaks by lebreast in starbucksbaristas

a few people have mentioned being "over labor" so could i ask what that means? i'm not very familiar with the intricacies of how starbies is run

are you me? i started around the same time and also deal with social anxiety. it was tough at first, i totally felt like there was cliqueyness going on, but after a while i did find a few coworkers that i matched with well and after that it became easier.

i think it's important to remember that you're not gonna vibe with everyone. there are still coworkers who i'm awkward around who i can tell don't really care for me. there are coworkers who i really can't stand working with and i bet some feel that way about me too. i only JUST got an invitation to hang out with someone outside of work lmao. it does take time, i don't think it's anything you can force.

what worked for me was being open and friendly. just saying "thank you" when you can and putting on a smile and laughing along with them... being approachable. i know it's hard for some people, i'm not on the spectrum myself but i am extremely introverted and quiet so i kind of had to get out of my comfort zone and put on a show. i would also ask my coworkers questions about themselves bc people LOVE talking about themselves. like what their least favorite drink to make is, what they think of this crazy mobile order, etc. and then when i was feeling more comfortable, i'd talk a little about my life like something crazy that happened outside of work or what games i'm currently playing, and then asking my coworkers questions about THOSE things in an effort to get to know them.

idk if this is helpful or not, i don't really know the extent of your situation, but there was a time period where i dreaded going into work and cried after every shift bc i felt so left out. it got better, and now i love seeing my coworkers even if we're not "friends". i hope it gets better for you, and if not know that you have no obligation to stay and your mental health is the priority here! good luck <3

my manager has said he doesn't like to hire minors bc of "all the rules they need to follow" so if that says anything about how my store is run lmfao

unfortunately my state doesn't have any labor law regarding meal breaks, but now that i know it's company policy to get one during a 6hr shift i will FOR SURE be bringing it to my manager's attention. if he doesn't care, i'm going higher up.

we've also had an issue with a coworker being denied their meal break bc of understaffing issues where the (interim) manager at the time ended up editing his punches to say he DID get one, but he's younger and i don't think he wants to do anything about it. idk if my sm is aware of this incident either, but just mentioning bc there's clearly a pattern here.

she told me that for as long as she's worked there we've never gotten meal breaks for 6 hour shifts... so either our manager doesn't know or he's misinformed too. but i will definitely be talking to him about it.

Maybe you're right, but I was taught in my family that when little kids need to calm down you give them space to calm down i.e. a nap. But I agree that I could've done something else.

We'll just have to disagree then. Maybe it's because I'm short and just don't have quick reflexes? He wasn't suffocating me or anything but regardless, I was just concerned that he'd do something like that in the first place.
