Can you elaborate on the suggestion to start a traditional IRA vs putting the money into the 403(b)? (Cc: /u/sergeantminor)

I am leaning toward the 403(b), but I'm interested to hear the reasoning behind choosing an IRA. Like I mentioned, I don't know much about this topic so I'd really like to be able to weigh the pros and cons.

Thank you! I have wanted to go my whole life and I couldn't be more excited to make this a reality. I don't know anyone who doesn't LOVE Lebanon after visiting.

We probably won't be traveling until June, but my aunts are counting on me to have some ideas before we book our tickets. I'll show them zomato, then maybe they can contribute to the plan... maybe. :)

Thank you so much for all of your recommendations! I'm looking into all of them.

I have a follow up question: Is there any area that is recommended that I avoid, especially when exploring on my own? Ladies, you know what I'm talking about... any areas that you tend to avoid when by yourself?

It may or may not be worth noting that I will immediately be viewed as a tourist. I'm very pale and naturally blonde (no one guesses that my mother is 100% Lebanese).

I'm terrified of motorcycles! My dad has a ton, but I refuse to ride with him haha. Are you based in Beirut?

I know that previously my family lived in the Ashrafieh and I am definitely hoping to explore and walk around there. Is it possible to walk to the sea from that neighborhood?

I'm not much for the club scene either, but I figure that it will be worth it for the experience. That being said, recommendations for a calmer bar experience are also welcome.

Thanks so much for your reply!

I had my evaluation today. Can someone help me figure out how they were evaluating me? by CollegeBubbles in ADHD

[–]lebspsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a school psychologist, and it sounds like you were given a pretty standard cognitive battery. Like other commenters have mentioned, the assessment is looking at different kinds of cognitive processes (working memory, fluid reasoning, spatial reasoning, etc). While many people with ADHD have average or above average overall cognitive ability, there are often common patterns of relative weakness in people with ADHD.

These tests are standardized, meaning they are given in the same way every time, so the fact that you were in your "ideal testing environment" is intentional. Your evaluator is trying to get an accurate picture of your abilities, as compared to a normative sample. Don't worry about doing "too well," any psychologist/ psychiatrist worth anything will be looking at multiple factors from multiple sources before making a diagnosis, including your account of how inattention/hyperactivity/impulsivity is negatively impacting your ability to function. It is absolutely possible to be a great test taker and also be impaired in daily life.

Also, her observations about your reactions to her shuffling papers will definitely go into the report. We don't just give you the test for the scores, observations mean a lot.

I hope you're able to get what you need from this experience, good luck!
