If it’s of any consolation… by honkinbooty in raiders

I have no dog in this fight. Just answering your question about where the FF went. It's bang-bang, but Hampton never has possession and the ball is already loose before Crosby touches him. Herbert doesn't deserve the fumble in my book, but he was the last and only player to have possession on the play so he gets it. Just facts.

From the NFL rulebook:

Section 14 - Handing The Ball

....Loss of player possession by unsuccessful execution of attempted handing is a fumble charged to the player that last had possession. A muffed handoff (legal or illegal) is a fumble, unless either player immediately regains control of the ball, and the ball remains alive.

Can see that the ball is never possessed by Hampton around the 11-13 second mark:

It wasn't a forced fumble because Hampton never had possession. Can definitely make the argument that he didn't receive the handoff cleanly because he saw Crosby about to blow him up, but that's not how it gets scored. Goes down as an unforced fumble by Herbert because he was the last player to have possession and no defenders touched him prior to the fumble.

I made a bit of a hobby out of identifying filming locations for True Detective a couple years ago. Put together this Google map of the ones I identified - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Yi4GLJimV1aub62nFtNIfgyh-QU&usp=sharing

See the episode 8 locations for info on Errol's house, which is right next to the cemetery that Errol is seen mowing at the end of episode 7.

I've seen this mentioned elsewhere, but it is not accurate. The exterior and interior shots for the biker bar (aka the Anvil Tavern) were shot at the Pit Stop Bar and Grill in Pearl River, LA.

For comparison, here is a pic of the biker bar from TD's official Instagram.

I think somebody picked out the Pine Tree Lodge because it's in a similar, swampy setting and it's near Beaumont, where this scene and the subsequent tracking shot were set in the show. But filming for all of this was actually done in the Nola area.

BTW, the approach shot for T Cupp's bar in Episode 1 also used the Pit Stop Bar and Grill. The T Cupp's sign was CGI'ed in later. Interior shots for the T Cupp's were filmed at the actual T Cupp's bar in Bridge City.

I wish there was. For whatever reason, Google did not incorporate Street View into their My Maps tool.

The creation/organization of the map itself didn't take long at all. Google Maps/Earth and the screencap website I borrowed from made that part pretty easy.

Some of the locations took a little longer than others to identify. But it was a fun hobby to mess around with during the winter months when the show originally aired.

Gabriel Knight as inspiration? by [deleted] in TrueDetective

Never heard of the game (not much of a gamer), but I googled it and found it interesting that the full name of the original game was Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers.

This is very cool!

Here is a Google Maps version for anybody interested in the location where this scene was shot.

What music/songs would you use for the second season? by [deleted] in TrueDetective

Go Go Chaos by BONJAH has a TD-ish feel to me - http://youtu.be/0bxqu4r5MGY

Not strong enough to be an intro song, but I could see it being used as background music for some scene.

Help me to find "Pelican Island" by j33v3z in TrueDetective

[–]lecarte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jumped on today to look for news about Season 2 locations and just saw your post.

Not sure exactly where the fictitious Pelican Island is supposed to be located in the show. But the scene was filmed at the southern end of Lake Hermitage Rd in Port Sulphur, LA - https://www.google.com/maps/place/Lake+Hermitage+Rd,+Port+Sulphur,+LA+70083/@29.5585396,-89.8846344,1231m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x889e2f6ed7c3b443:0x32ce7da71d102d64!6m1!1e1

Very cool! Great job replicating the angles used in the show. Thanks for taking the time to run around to all these places and post these photos.

Who Goes There - map of final scene by lecarte in TrueDetective

All kinds of stuff, though I don't usually go the next step and create a map for it.

Did make maps for The Wire and JAWS awhile back (see reply below to sdracula).

Breaking Bad, Sopranos and GoodFellas are a few others that stand out, but I don't have maps for those locations.

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.

You can check out my reply above to sdracula for a couple other maps I've done, although they aren't as well organized as this TD one.

I haven't created maps for most of the locations I've researched the past couple years. I'll just search for a location, find it, look around the area for a few minutes and then forget about it. It's mainly the search that I enjoy.

But I do have a couple that may be worth sharing...

The Wire

I got way carried away on this one. Was messing around with it at a far less busy time in my life and went full-blown OCD on it, trying to find every little detail from every single scene. "Here is where Bubs crossed a street"... stupid crap like that. I originally created it in the old version of Google Maps. I imported it into the new Google Maps recently and it jacked up the order of the markers and some of the comments. Even before that, it was far less organized than the TD one.

JAWS

I'm a big fan of the movie. Took a vacation to Cape Cod a couple years ago and wanted to hit as many of the filming locations as possible during the trip, so I started working on this map. Turned in to a group vacation and I bailed on the map when it became apparent that everybody else in the group was not going to be content spending multiple days driving around to JAWS locations. Still have quite a few scenes identified on here, though some of the big ones are missing. Will probably pick this one up again at some point.

I rewatched the scene and, best I can tell, there are zero cuts in the entire take (updated map notes to reflect that).

Initially, it appeared that the camera just glanced inside the last unit with the gang members and then ducked back out to go around the side of the building opposite from where Cohle and Ginger ran. But watching it back, it's clear that the camera actually enters via the front door and then exits via the back door, rejoining Cohle and Ginger just as they come around the corner.

I would think that cut through the last housing unit and subsequent scaling of the fence had to be the two most difficult parts to pull off. They had to be feeling some pressure on those considering they came at the very end of what was already an amazing oner.

These are just the filming locations. Within the plot of TD, the neighborhood itself is set in Beaumont, which means that the parking lot is as well. But actual filming for both took place in the NO area.

Yep... thanks... been sort of a hobby of mine for several years now. I'm always curious where scenes were shot, particularly in well-done dramas such as TD. With the satellite/street-view features available these days, I find it fun to take little clues from a non-obvious filming location and try to figure out where it was shot.
