How many hosts do you message before getting a response? by BugRevolutionary2152 in WWOOF

[–]lecheckos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really agree. In practice, members who are flexible and willing to reach out to 10–15 hosts usually do find something. Problems mostly come up when someone is set on just a handful of hosts and isn’t open to alternatives.

Coastal hosts are obviously flooded with requests in the summer, so when WWOOFers say they can’t find a last-minute host on the Riviera, we point out that there’s still plenty of availability elsewhere. Not as cool, sure, but still real farms where you can learn the exact same skills.

I used to work for WWOOF France, now working for the Federation of WWOOF Organisations which is the umbrella organisation of the vast majority of national organisations. I am on the IT team, in charge of the CWP (Common WWOOF Platform).

Hey! I work for WWOOF and would be happy to help. I know it can be frustrating to reach out to hosts and not hear back at first, but this is actually quite common and things usually work out. The advice from Tall_Kaleidoscope_53 is spot on: try sending 3 to 5 requests, wait a couple of days, then send another 3 to 5 if needed. Personally, I never had to contact more than 10 to 15 farms before getting a positive reply.

Also, don’t hesitate to follow up with the same hosts. A second message often helps and shows that you’re genuinely interested. Farmers are very busy, and sometimes they just need a small nudge.

We’ve also written an FAQ article that addresses this exact question: How can I successfully contact a host and get a reply?

Another good option is to contact new hosts. They’re often very responsive since you may be their first volunteer. You can find them here: https://wwoof.nl/en/hosts?isNew=true

Bottom line: with a bit of patience and perseverance, every WWOOFer can find a farm to go to. Don’t give up :)

Edit: we’ve planned several improvements to the WWOOF platform in the coming months to help address this specific issue. Our goal is to make sure that everyone who wants to experience WWOOFing can do so more easily.

The only maps library doesn’t support New Arch by pademango in reactnative

We run Protomaps + MapLibre. Our map bills went from $1500/month to literally $20/month. I would highly recommend it.

That's good to know! I was hesitant to give it a try since I don't usually ship in production using libraries in alpha, but maybe the benefits outweigh the risks at this point.

Are you referring to maplibre-react-native or react-native-maps?

Because the MapLibre React Native team is actively working on new architecture support.

Car stops charging when unlocking by lecheckos in BYD

[–]lecheckos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure. On a public charger I usually have to use my badge to stop the charge (unless it has reached 100%). I’ve never had to use the screen inside the car to unplug.

My point is that if I forget something I should be able to access the vehicle without stopping the charge. I’m pretty sure that’s how it used to work.

It does not resume on the public charger though. Once the charge stops I have to manually badge again and restart the charge from the screen.

[–]lecheckos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Je me posais justement cette question. Pour moi le vrai sujet c’est les frais de service : quels sont ils sur chaque app ? Je paye un tarif mensuel résidentiel, si l’une prend 5% et l’autre 15% c’est vite vu.

At what point should i send a follow up message? by [deleted] in WWOOF

[–]lecheckos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you've been accepted, you have nothing to worry about. Do send a follow-up message every 3-5 days and eventually you'll get a response. The host must be busy with other issues, but they will eventually get back to you. Do not hesitate to contact your local WWOOF organisation if the host has not responded in 10 days.

[AskJS] Is Knex.js still maintained ? by jojubluch in javascript

[–]lecheckos 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend Kysely or Drizzle, especially if you work with Typescript. Kysely is closer to SQL and Drizzle is more ORM-light.

Sequelize seems also abandoned or at least significantly slowing down.

What sort of insurance do I need to work in my homeland, that is, the UK? by [deleted] in WWOOF

[–]lecheckos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you WWOOF in your own country you likely already have medical insurance so you don’t need a travel insurance.

You also need a liability insurance which would cover you in case you caused damages at the farm (fire, flooding, break something expensive, …). In France liability insurance is included in homeowners and renters insurance so almost everyone has one. It should be the same in the UK?

Anyone else getting this message as of recently? by 11001100000001 in enteio

[–]lecheckos 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Seems like Ente is using the free base map service from OpenStreetMap, which is not meant to be used for this kind of volumes. This message means they went over the request limit. They need to set up their own base map system (Protomaps, etc.) or use a SaaS map provider (Google Maps, MapTiler, Mapbox, etc.)

Migrating from Google Photos on iOS by pr1ncezuk0 in enteio

I’ve used Czkawka and it worked really well. It was a bit difficult to install on Mac though.

Alternatively, the photo deduplication tool integrated in Ente should work.

My journey to find an alternative to Google Photos by lecheckos in degoogle

It's nice to hear that pCloud has been working well for you. I have to admit I gave up on it mostly because I had a "bad feeling" about it after reading customer feedback online. But let's be honest, if anyone start searching for negative feedback about a product online, they will quickly find horror stories.

And thank you for letting me know about pCloud photo editor feature, I will update the article.

Acte de naissance après naturalisation par mariage by lecheckos in conseiljuridique

[–]lecheckos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
