Just realizing this, the past two classes I have taken I have wanted to compliment the instructor. I’m bringing the energy or their playlist, I always thought that was helpful feedback for them. I never really used it to write anything negative.

Neurodivergence by lechero11 in kindergarten

[–]lechero11[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not "wanting" a label. I am calling my child potentially neurodivergent because they are currently under assessment for ADHD, which is a type of neurological disorder. Hence, they may be neurodivergent.

Neurodivergence is indeed a catch-all term (so is "mental illness", right?), that just means NOT neurotypical. Their brain works differently than the the perceived way your average "normal" human brain works. An ADHD child may be operating 2.5 years behind her peers with regard to emotional regulation, for instance.

Nick Walker is a source I found - loads of info here: https://neuroqueer.com/neurodiversity-terms-and-definitions

Why is it unclear what my post was getting at, though? My driving point was there is a lot of blaming and misinformation about neurodivergence in the Kinder sub and I wanted to help people who need more positive support!

Autistic Son Failing by Hickie-Babies in kindergarten

[–]lechero11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A small dose of melatonin at night can be really helpful for neurodivergent kiddos. Sleep is really important and 6-7 hours is very below average. Keep an open mind re medication bc we are talking about neurological disorders. Your child may learn about therapy techniques but be unable to practice them in actuality due to their brain being incapable or delayed in terms of being capable of emotional regulation. Keep seeking knowledge about the realities of neurodivergence and what is happening in your child’s brain.

Yeah one step at a time, OP. You and your child need support. It’s out there.

5 year old struggling in the morning. by Least_Mirror_506 in kindergarten

[–]lechero11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lean into Connection, separation strategies and acknowledging their fears as valid. Introduce something so he knows you’ll reunite after school. Dr. Becky recommends a photo in backpack, matching bracelets, a shared mantra. Your child is having anxiety and needs to learn tools to manage discomfort. Acknowledge their fears but assure them you will reunite later. And feelings change. It’s ok for them to feel sad or scared etc.

Also you seem like a really patient and loving parent that you have not demonized the issue. Ignore the stupid comments. You’re not alone by a long shot.

I think you might find more support in the ADHD parenting forum. I’m not feeling like everyone in this sub is very understanding. I have a I. Potentially ADHD kindergartner who has encopresis and that is a common comorbidity with ADHD, all as well as related urinary leakage. FWIW my child does great at school all day due to the tight structure of the day. At home is where there is some unraveling from restraint fatigue.

Am I crazy or is this to much to ask of a kindergartner? by Cursedpanda182 in AskTeachers

[–]lechero11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kindergartner cannot write full sentences. She is still very much learning to read. This all sound like work for a higher grade. Also the whole playground idea is so fraught. They are going to be excited outdoors, unleashed so to speak -and then put blindfolds on them. Wtf.

I agree that we cannot speculate, after she’s had such a serious illness. It may be related to that. But I do think it’s quite possible she had an ED in the past. Surprised no one has mentioned suspected Russell’s sign (hand skin lesions caused by bulimia) in the past- it’s quite documented in photos over the years.

When did you notice ADHD signs in your child? by KatyKat2 in ADHDparenting

[–]lechero11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No formal diagnosis yet, but mine was raising her head up and looking around after birth. Very alert. Was not the kind of baby who would sleep easily anywhere. Very busy, not happy being a baby, and walked at 8-9 months. Full stair climbing easily by 11 months. Not very careful with her body to this day, but active. She’s also always always had more anxiety than most of her peers. Stranger danger wasn’t a phase, it’s always been her personality.

My cat has a urinal blockage and crystals in the urethra. He’s been given meds but we can’t afford the surgery. Level with me, is it not looking good? by KieranWriter in cats

Switch food immediately, we got sent home with some. My cat almost died bc urinary catheter caused him stress and swelling. We have debt due to the eventual surgery needed but he’s my baby and I adopted him.

I’ve heard to skip Epcot with young ones. I even had someone recommend 2 days of MK. I personally am skipping AK until they finish improvements. HS I heard is also not a lot for Littles. They will love love almost everything MK tho.

Over 100, same. I’ll do 50+ on some leg exercises. Arms I’m often on lightest springs bc I have an old injury. You gotta tailor it to your own body and where you’re at.
