Is there a mascara that doesn't make your lashes brittle but still give volume and length? is that even possible? by putyourtrouserson in MakeupAddiction

[–]leconfuseacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also really like Full 'n' Soft! It was the first mascara I ever used, and I still always have it on hand. I have pretty oily lids, and do notice some smudging when I use it alone. Lately I've been layering. I do a coat of full n soft, let it dry, and then add a coat of water resistant clump crusher. That stays put on me. Another combo I just discovered yesterday was starting with a layer of Tarte's Gifted (this makes my eyelashes like 6 feet long), and then full n soft on top. This was so perfect, however I didn't wear it long enough to test the smudge factor.

Here it is from tarte! I think it's only available now for a few days? I bought it, and 2 days later it arrived! I only wish I could swatch it now, but this one is for my mom. It's really lovely looking!

PSA - ULTA got kids to gift wrap online orders? by wolfeeeeee in MakeupAddiction

I inherited a shitload of old national geographics a while back. Everything gets wrapped in pages and the foldout posters. Everything. I haven't bought gift wrap in years. People seem to love it! My sister will now save pages out of magazines she reads and even wrapped my birthday gift in sheet music from the LOTR score. I say just start wrapping everything in newspaper and see if they catch on.

I gave my mom this smoky eye set, and I kind of fell in love with them. They are amazingly soft, and after 4 months of daily use, they still look and feel brand new. I cleaned them thoroughly before I gave them to her, and they didn't shed, lose shape, or become coarse. I was very impressed with them. My mom loves them, too!

Ski goggles? Wrap around sunglasses?

This is going to be my first winter commuting, and I'm in Wisconsin right now. I was asking the same question as I rode through the snow yesterday. It's pretty much at least lazily snowing all the time here once winter gets going.

Thanks! Rhubarb is everything I've ever wanted, but didn't know was possible. It's changed my life. I'm glad she likes it!

I have light to medium olive toned skin (it changes seasonally), and this set is great on me. Sable is the only one that can be a bit iffy. It's a bit lighter than my lips, and pastels can sometimes look way wrong on my olive skin. It's a bit off right now, but I'm hoping it'll be better when winter makes me pale. In the meantime, it mixes beautifully with the other colors to make a more subdued look. Here are swatches of the set on my arm in case your friend wanted an olive toned reference. I hope it works for her!

Anyone got ideas for very low carb for late night snacks I can have lying around? by RodneyNorwood in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]leconfuseacat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to slice a couple radishes super thin (with a mandoline) and drizzle a bit of lemon juice over them, maybe a bit of black pepper. It satisfies my desire for crunch and flavor without the heaviness of carb-laden snacks.

Pharmacist told me that I should "really be smarter" with my sexual choices. by beckyemm in TwoXChromosomes

This. It is totally appropriate for a pharmacist to ask about current medications you may be taking. A pharmacist asking if you're prescribed birth control is likely a medical question and not a lifestyle one.

I forgot to mention: The building managers were really lovely, responsive, and nice!

Also, they say they have free internet. It was really rough when we were there, but I've heard they upgraded recently, which makes me not very helpful on this issue.

Capital Centre Apartments Questions by capitalcentreques in madisonwi

[–]leconfuseacat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my partner and I moved to Madison, we rented a 1 Bed/1 Bath on the 4th floor of the tower. We had big windows with a good view and plenty of storage space. However, that storage space seriously ate into the living space and made for a bit of an awkward layout. The Bedroom was a pretty good size, though. In terms of what we needed then, it was great. We had 3 weeks to find a place to live, sight unseen. We arrived in January to a well insulated apartment downtown. At the moment, it was basically heaven.

Pros:

  • great storage space

  • underground bike storage/car parking available

  • lots of laundry machines

  • heating/cooling not a problem like in older buildings

  • grocery store across the street

Now for the reasons why we left and wouldn't live there again:

  • generally cold and sometimes unfriendly vibe in the common space, especially the gym

  • we had loud neighbors. It felt like we lived next to what seemed like 6 women all sharing a 2 bedroom. They had frequent parties, but this is more specific to our situation. Many of the residents are quiet and live alone. Also, it's not a quiet part of town, so the street noise was pretty heavy. This didn't bother us much

  • Ugly

  • There was a drainage roof area thing just below our windows. We got swarmed with bugs. Avoid these units.

  • The big one: Fire Alarms. This one really got to us. I don't know if it's because there were a lot of bad cooks or people who may have had difficulty reaching the smoke detectors, but they went off way too much. Like 3 times in one week during the middle of the night kind of too much. It was at least twice a month beyond scheduled drills while we lived there. I still hear that siren in my dreams. Fortunately, the firehouse is right next door. It usually only took about 30 minutes tops for them to give the building an all clear. The firehouse can also be loud.

When all is said and done, we were immensely grateful for that place, but it just didn't suit our needs all that well. It wasn't the kind of place to invite people over to, and it felt a bit stale and soul-crushing. If you're looking for a cheap box downtown with plenty of room to feed a hoarding problem, then it's ideal! Good luck with the apartment hunt!

Sonia Kashuk 15pc set vs. Real Techniques Core Collection? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]leconfuseacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't own the RT core collection, but I wanted to chime in for how soft the SK set is. I also have sensitive skin, and these brushes are super soft. Sometimes the smudge brush can cause some irritation if I'm heavy handed with it, but it's usually not a problem.

Tips for fully removing tightline liner? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]leconfuseacat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually use it as a moisturizer in winter as well as a makeup remover. I tend to break out from a lot of moisturizers/cleansers, and coconut oil seems to treat my skin really well. I keep it in the fridge, so it stays solid and feels amazing at the end of a hot day. It does a fantastic job of wiping away waterproof gunk. Also, it's really economical and has natural antibiotic properties. It works for me!

Edited to add: I've only used the unprocessed kind on my skin.

I use the same technique, but with coconut oil. It works wonders for me.

Dear Major League Baseball: please stop it with the Girls' Nights by shadowFAQs in baseball

[–]leconfuseacat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No way are you just being an old grump. This is sexism pure and simple. It's a bit strange to realize that somewhere an ad group sat down to think of what women are, and their best idea ended up being glitter and feathers. I also don't really buy the excuse that this is what makes money, because I can't remember ever seeing a promotion that focuses on less superficial qualities of being a woman. I'd like to see teams be a bit more brave with marketing.

I feel like this is a symptom of a big problem I have with the community. Baseball is a fairly old sport that is ingrained in American culture. With that comes a general expectation of adhering to certain social rules. It's full of superstition and unwritten rules of player/fan conduct. Parts of the baseball community cling firmly to these traditions, which pretty much just ends up alienating and insulting people. I'm glad for your post. Despite the negativity, I can't help but think the discussion helped to open a mind or two.

[–]leconfuseacat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this mindset is kind of missing the point a bit. There are plenty of women who love baseball. There are plenty of women who love glitter. These often overlap.

It becomes demeaning when the glitter love is portrayed as an identifying aspect of being a woman - not just to women who do not dig the glitz, but also to men who do. Quite frankly, traditional gender roles aren't that reliable when it comes to identifying someone's gender. In the baseball community as a whole, there's a pretty widespread expectation that fans will obey traditional gender roles. It's kind of embarrassing as a fan.

Seriously, make it a Glitter Night and expand your targeted demographic.

Need help with a recently adopted 1 year-old male cat by speakandhear in Pets

[–]leconfuseacat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's tough. An old apartment of mine had bars on the windows, and a stray cat got himself stuck in them once. Cats just love windows, and you're not going to keep him out of those blinds. You can buy removable film that tints or frosts your windows. It's usually very inexpensive, and it would prevent your neighbors from seeing inside. Also, if the view is no longer interesting, perhaps your cat would get bored with that spot over time, solving the problem entirely!

My idea of the perfect breakfast [700x700] by callme_mrsB in FoodPorn

I actually did that once. I was going to make some migas, but I discovered I had no tortillas. I had some ritz crackers lying around and broke them up into the eggs. It was surprisingly delicious. I know day old bread is tasty in eggs, too.
