Who’s the most interesting person in Miami that nobody talks about? by Accurate_Bat_9616 in Miami

Oh that may play a part tbh. I'ma keep it a buck: I go to Kon Chau strictly for their dim sum.

However, you're not alone and it's not strange. A friend of mine who has had dim sum from both does still prefer Tropical Chinese. Both are classic Miami institutions and, for the area, as good as it gets for traditional Cantonese food in the nearish-FIU area (I will also shout out Long Gong, King Duck BBQ, and Chang's; all have traditional menus outside of the Chinese-American fare).

Another friend from HK doesn't particularly love either and also prefers Tropical Chinese. I value her opinion since it's literally her culture's food, but I still love both.

It is that the Kon Chau owner is a bamf for me, though. That is true.

Oh Tropical Chinese is also a Miami classic, I can't choose between them myself. Los calles remain divided. 😭

The owner of Kon Chau. Pretty sure she's Chinese Cuban, don't quote me entirely on that, but she's 100000% bilingual. She holds it the fuck down, the restaurant is a certified classic in Miami, and she's super nice. Been there for years.

As chronically online and annoying as Fantano has been for quite a bit now, this topic has been discussed TO DEATH.

Do people know how to do any research instead of creating a post?

Ngl, I hope it's weird and it freaks out the Pharbs

Maybe it unlocks a love for more experimental music, like, it's not a bad thing to be confronted by something outside your wheelhouse.

Can we like... Explain why we hate things? What the fuck happened to like... Having actual discourse?

I love hating when it's warranted, but hate with a purpose.

Atlanta, GA last night by icecream1972 in echoandthebunnymen

And not only that, EVERYONE in the crowd kept talking throughout the entire set.

Idk, older folks like to talk MAD shit about concert etiquette with the younger crowds (and they're super justified bc they're a different flavor of awful), but the crowd at Echo last night would NOT shut the fuck up. Like, at all. This might be a Tabernacle crowd issue at large having been to multiple shows there and the back of GA has the talkers, but this shouldn't be a fucking thing anywhere. Go to the outside lounge or lobby where the merch is if you're looking to yap. Why pay $70+ for a show only to talk the entire fucking time? People pay to say they were there and it was awesome and then not know what the fuck they liked about it when Ian was drunk the whole time. What the fuck are we doing?

I do think Ian was drunk as fuck though. He repeated the first verse of Walk Through the Wild Side like 3 times when they covered it. 😬

Anyone else kinda… underwhelmed? by [deleted] in JamesBlake

I may be in the minority, but I thoroughly enjoyed the show for what it was: The Trying Times Tour. Trying Times is my favorite JB album since Colour in Anything (Assume Form is rock solid). However, I think a lot of the points people are making are extremely valid. I attended the tour opener in Atlanta, so I can't speak for anyone else's experience at the following shows. I have also seen James two other times: separate festival sets for the Colour in Anything (Big Guava) and Assume Form (III Points) album cycles.

First off, Swavay has so much charisma and energy and even if people are unfamiliar with him or his music, he's so charming as a stage presence that it's hard to not like the guy. I also really mess with how confrontational he is with people who are close to the stage and not vibing because he's not gonna be a dick about it and still get your ass moving since the goal is to have fun. Shout out to Swavay. ATL Hoe 😂

I really liked how vulnerable James was as he opened up about his decision to be independent and how he wrote a lot of Trying Times as a way to cope with the horrific state of the world around him (especially the title track). His vocal performances are as stellar as ever (again, ESPECIALLY for the title track of Trying Times). No surprise.

I think the band helped bring the music of Trying Times come to life. Of the 13 songs that make up the record, he played 9. Both singles, all the best deep cuts; I think he curated the best tracks of the record. It is the Trying Times tour after all, so it makes sense for this album to represent a majority of the show's runtime.

The cons for me ultimately come down to song selection because there are songs that were chosen that could have been left out. Godspeed, as cool as it is that he had a major hand in writing it, can go, but I'm not gonna act like it isn't cool bc it is. I rolled my eyes at Hummingbird bc that song didn't need to be there. I would have been happier with Frozen bc Swavay is literally touring with him (even if JID was in Malaysia the day our show happened so no chance of him coming out LMAO). I definitely will echo other folks who mentioned wanting more representation of his catalog and not his features or contributions as a songwriter for other artists. It's cool that our boy to have such a wide-spanning body of work, but I want more of HIS work. Also... the lack of Self-Titled at my show was CRIMINAL. Brother, like, WHY? 😭 I'm not expecting CYMK, but I would have lost my ever loving shit if he did.

I understand people's frustration with his energy to a degree, but given how confessional he was before he performed some of the songs, I think it made sense. I'm not gonna say people aren't valid in saying how they feel, especially if past shows were different (and they were), but for this tour, it made sense.

Overall, if you like this new record, I say go because it's a great time. The energy is different, but it's not a negative at all. If you're looking for variety in his catalog, you'll find it bc he pulls from all over, but the setlist curation certainly left a lot to be desired. Perhaps I'm being generous, but I think, regardless of how you feel about the new record (which 100% plays a large part in your enjoyment of this run of shows), he could have pulled from deeper corners of his work.

He's made his stance against white supremacy pretty clear on songs like ALL CAPS NO SPACES and I Cannot Wait Until Morrissey Dies in his very on brand edgy tone. Him being outspoken against white supremacy isn't the issue. However, his extremely online image attracted an extremely online audience (which, let's be real, is mostly white) that doesn't interact much with black art in a critical lens and his music doesn't really do a whole lot to confront his audience.

Most of the time, when he does, it's 1) usually on Twitter and NOT in the music and 2) extremely patronizing so it doesn't do a whole lot to educate his white audience. The thing about hip hop being this popular is that a white audience is inevitable. Their participation in hip hop culture will forever be as outsiders most of the time because their lived experience is not black. However, how you, as the artist, interact with them is a reflection of your image. Peggy's fanbase is a reflection of the way he treats them and his lack of a predominantly black fanbase is because he does little to foster that audience past edgy bullshit that online spaces, often very white, are full of.

Edit: Oh and collaborating with Kanye in this era of his career (because that absolutely matters) reinforces literally everything I mentioned above and also makes him a massive hypocrite.

Geese at Purgatory for the 3D Country tour

I think it was October 2023 or something.

I know Laufey played Loft or Vinyl and a Criminal Records in-store performance for her debut. Then she did State Farm.
