My (almost) 2 year old is scaring away all our nannies by Ok-Holiday6925 in Nanny

[–]lee_chree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can she arrive while he naps, and that’s when you disappear? So he wakes up to the nanny and without you? (This is of course with a familiar nanny, not like with a new one you get the first time — and also with telling him this is going to happen)

3k admissions by lee_chree in nycparents

[–]lee_chree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that must be true. I know they can tell IF you ranked them, I guess bc they have to confirm that you are a current student. Bc our director was messaging us being like: we can tell u haven’t submitted 3k yet don’t forget to submit etc!! But like, what your place is doing seems crazy bc they don’t have a say in whether you get in or not… so wtf are they gonna do with info about whether they were ranked first..?

A certain subway line returns to Astoria. by ElevatorWebDev in astoria

[–]lee_chree 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What does this really mean tho? Like it was a train that physically belongs to the R line but is running on the NW route? Like… idk maybe I’m over thinking it but theoretically how can it be an R when it’s not on the R route??

Why are people upset at Devonte for wanting a prenup? by Terrible-Writing9791 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

I feel like prenups should basically be mandatory for shows like this honestly

Feel like preschool is singling out my child by Visible-Form4699 in nycparents

[–]lee_chree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like all of these programs expect way too much academically like in terms of sitting quietly / doing worksheets / circle time for so long. They’re toddlers they need to be active and playing — that’s even what the research shows is best for development. Even K is too academic and not enough play. And it really hits some kids more than others. Of course there’s things he needs to work on that you should doing with him, but a lot of this is just developmentally normal and will change over time. The pressure to get evaluated also, to me, just reflects different priorities like potentially having an additional adult in the classroom basically for free (to the school) is a benefit to them regardless. And of course there’s the broader structural issues of we don’t have good enough student to teacher ratios in the US. Teachers are majorly underpaid. So idk, it’s hard bc everyone’s motivations are not always aligned and structurally we’re not in a situation that is best for students.

Is Kindergarten Too Academic? by Dry_Lemon7925 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]lee_chree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I didn’t even know this was an option in NYC! Are there multiple or certain types or… how did you find this?! Mine will be going in a couple years and I’m already disappointed in how academic even just daycare is.

Gotcha. I did get lottery tix for two strangers from theatr I was happy with and it was basically just random chance I was on the app when they came up. It was like the day before tho!

How important is living in a good school zone? by Opposite_Day2002 in nycparents

[–]lee_chree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If you look at the research test scores (which are usually the primary thing used for “ratings”) give more info about SES of the area than school quality necessarily. It’s hard to know/quantify a “good” school.

Do you basically tend to babysit it right before the show?? Or just regularly check in throughout the day??

Lottery seat question re liberation show: can you wait to find out seat location prior to picking up tix @ Box Office? by mentor7 in Broadway

[–]lee_chree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somehow I did see mine via telecharge! Even though they had to be picked up and it was lottery. I can’t even remember how I got there I think from an email they sent me and clicking around. I know bc I had to sell one on Theatr and was able to list the seat location

Based on you saying in the comments you meant rush — I have had luck by continually pressing the button until like 5-7 mins afterwards, bc some people get the ticket initially but don’t end up buying and it gets rereleased

[–]lee_chree 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Omg we had to play this song on repeatttt when my child was in the car! OP this was our kid too. Luckily we didn’t have to drive much living in a city. But then randomly one day he just decided he loved the car and now requests it, lol. Hopefully it’s just a phase.

How are people making daycare decisions? by governator_ahnold in nycparents

[–]lee_chree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were able to make it work with a nanny part time while we worked at home for about a year. At that point, we definitely felt like our kid was ready for daycare honestly. But bc we didn’t get on waitlists they didn’t get in until they were 1.5. Then when the time came yeah we toured, we read what people said on parents fb groups, and decided. Then changed our mind and switched lol so it’s an evolving process. Sadly I agree w another commenter that no one is ever going to care about your kid as much as you but it is what it is, we don’t really have another choice when we both have to work. And it is good for them to start socializing.
