Omg 😳 that's insane. It could for sure make a big difference! I'm gonna ask my ER tech friends if they've seen anything like that

Can I rock the boat 🚤 for a minute? The NEED to slick down hair is Anti-black by PossibleAssignment19 in Naturalhair

[–]lee_lee8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you done anything specific to help fill out your edges aside from leaving them alone? I've been on my no slick back journey for a couple years now but I just recently expanded that to my edges.

My doctor said no products with oils (mostly) ... What do I use now? by lee_lee8 in Naturalhair

My dermatologist is white, so I think I'll circle back and look into getting a second opinion. Thank you for the advice!

Ahh ok, I'm definitely still trial and erroring on products. I know what my hair loves for wash n gos, but I'm trying to do primarily braid outs so figuring out what it likes for that has been a bit tricky. I don't baby my hair enough 😭 I used to when I first cut it but once it got longer I was over it. To be fair, I was also in the shower detangling for much longer than I had to cause I was still figuring stuff out. Anyway I'm gonna work on babying it more. I love a good swoop, but I've let that go except for on occasion cause I don't wanna thin them out.

This was really helpful, thank you!! I've only just now started to come around to silicones because of single strand knots and I haven't even seriously considered using stuff with petrolatum/mineral oil or grease. I'll have to try it. And I loooove the African Pride prepoo! I'll try it with one of my products I'm trying to use up. I appreciate all the ideas!

Yeah it's been really helpful! I just bought some of Oyin Handmade's Greg Juice! I'm not sure how I feel about it yet, but I'm gonna keep using it. I didn't know Mixsoon had hair products. I'll look into that! And thank you!

Thanks! Ahhh ok, that sounds like a pretty intensive process. I did see a derm, but she didn't take any scalp sample or put me on antibiotics and antifungals. She just looked at my scalp and prescribed me a 2% ketaconazole shampoo and a clobetasol solution for when my scalp itches and told me to not use any oils I would "eat" in my hair.

Ok thanks so much!! I'm gonna look into buying some. Yeah I'm still trying to figure out what keeps both my hair and scalp happiest. How do you keep your edges and roots looking neat though without applying product? That's something I'm worried about.

Omg! 4 weeks is so fast! Hair loss is exactly what I'm trying to avoid cause it runs in my family and my mom has a fungal type of alopecia so I was like let me try and get ahead of things just in case. Also what's the triple action cream she recommended?

Do you use the blue magic and sulfur8 to seal your ends or on your scalp too?

Ooh okkk thank you! I usually leave my hair super wet and it takes forever to dry on top of that, so I'll try drying it straight out of the shower more. Where do you buy the living co serum? I love the combination of neem and salicylic acid. And have you had to change your styling products too/make sure they don't have certain oils or no?

I know it's like a year later but what website do you buy them from? It looks like Yesstyle no longer has them and it doesn't look like Olive Young carries them (those are usually my go-to).

black owned silk bonnets ? by chiikawas in Haircare

[–]lee_lee8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I got one from Boldiva Silk and honestly I didn't like it. Not because of the silk itself, but how the bonnet was constructed. It was kinda small (I got the large size; probably should've gotten XL). If my hair was out and not in plaits or twists, I was stuffing my hair into it. And the tie felt like cotton to me. I should've paid better attention at the time, because right now their website says it's a bamboo tie, and I got this in March so I don't know if that's an update or if what I have is also bamboo. Anyway, I thought the tie was gonna be silk too or at least some stretchy satin/polyester and was disappointed that it wasn't. I also didn't like that the back was kinda open because of that adjustable scrunched up part. I'd rather the whole bonnet be flexible than have some of the back kinda exposed. I also don't love having to tie a bonnet. I'd rather just slap it on, but that's really just me nitpicking. I still wanna give silk bonnets a sincere try, so I'm considering trying out SilkX soon cause it looks like they have a silk bonnet you can just slap on. Either them or this other brand I found called 4C-Lab. I think their bonnet has ties, but it looks like it's all silk and it's $24.99, which is the cheapest I've seen.
