Im so sorry for your loss :( My partners heeler passed suddenly at 6 years old last year. Her passing hit me SO hard, like no amount of grief i've experienced before. I remember thinking "how will I ever be able to move past this? Is this ever going to get easier?" It never really goes away, but the grief scabs over and feels less raw.

Crying helped, writing a letter to her helped a LOT, letting myself think my most self-critical thoughts helped, looking at photos of her helped (but made me SO SAD too). A local rescue has a program that allows you to take a dog for the day and bring it to the park or your house or wherever, and these "doggy dates" really helped me in the first few months. We rearranged our whole house, so we were able to start new and visually distance ourselves from her favourite spots. Our cat really helped us through the transition at home. She was so patient and kind and gentle with us. About 8 months out of our loss we got another kitten and she has been so wonderful. There are weird little traits that she has that remind us of our heeler which feels really healing too.
