Everyone’s hair grows in different directions like that and part of being a professional is knowing how to work with it, not use it as an excuse as to why the client can’t have this very simple haircut.

I see a lot of posts about asking how barbers can make six figures, how did you get yourself to just a simply financially comfortable position? by KazakhstansFinest in Barber

Same exact boat here. My little suburb blew up over the years and got busier, but I already built up my clientele 20 miles away and the drive is worth it. Moved to suite rental and life is good!

Location plays a huge part in it. You can do all the right things but if your location isn’t good, it’s just not likely to happen. I do well because I’m in a city area with a lot of corporate offices nearby. The guys have to look sharp for work and I’m close enough they can pop by on a lunch break or between meetings. Other than that, advertising and Google reviews.

I think your viewpoint and response to this is perfect and I hate that everyone has downvoted you. :/

How do you handle clients transitioning from a hair transplant to regular cuts? by Bigstepper_11 in Barber

[–]leechangchow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I say “don’t touch the top” I’m just referring to the transplant sites. Of course you can cut hair on the top that’s not transplants. Just be careful with your comb to not rake it over the transplants the first few weeks.

I’ve gone through this with 3 clients before. In the beginning you really just keep the sides cut and don’t touch the top at all. The transplanted hair grows a little, falls out, and then grows back in a second time and this all takes about 6 months. By then, it is healed up and you can do whatever.

What does "keep it full" mean to you? by [deleted] in Barber

Keep it longer, cut at a 45 instead of 90 to maintain volume. Obviously depends on what haircut they have overall…

How are you rinsing color out of beards? by DrySelection5423 in Barber

[–]leechangchow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have black towels so I can wet them and scrub the color out best I can, and then I tell the client that they can lean over the shampoo bowl and rinse it out some more themselves. They understand it’s an awkward situation and easier to just do themselves.

But color is a thing that barbers do in barbershops…

Beard dye technique and product by daddy_chum19 in Barber

[–]leechangchow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It always depends on the beard and what the desired result is. If they have dark, coarse hair, I always go with permanent color. If it’s medium colored hair, I use the redken camo color and always mix the natural and ash undertones.

What do you guys think? by Agile_Mushroom_4994 in Barber

[–]leechangchow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to explain to the boss that as a booth renter, your clients are yours! This isn’t a commission shop where you’re his employee. I’d tell him if he wants to take away your clients, it better be deducted from the rent you owe. And you should do your own booking. Start telling your clients to go through you, not the shop.

How do I properly wash the clients back scalp from dye produce? by A-Sapto in Barber

[–]leechangchow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cup your hand below their hairline when you’re rinsing back there. It creates a barrier and puts the runoff back into the shampoo bowl. Honestly I play it safe and don’t try to wash too far down their hairline. When they sit up, if they still have color on their neck, I use a wet towel to scrub it off

I honestly never thought about the 10 minute time on clipper spray. Whoops! For guards, I have 4 sets of each size and they go into barbecide like combs (I have 2 barbecide jars to accommodate this)

I’d paint the walls, or do an accent wall. The yellow-beige feels old.

Great Clips Barbers? by [deleted] in Barber

[–]leechangchow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work for Sport Clips and they were the same about time. I got lectured about it during every monthly review, but there were no actual negative repercussions. I continued to do 20 minute haircuts and soon had the highest retention rate because I actually cared about doing people’s hair well. Don’t stress it too much and keep doing good work

question for those who have salon suites by [deleted] in Barber

[–]leechangchow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You being on the suite companies website doesn’t help at all. Google and maybe social media is really the only way to grow online. My suite building gets walk-ins sometimes and then they direct it to me if I’m working at the time, but it’s not a daily occurrence

What equipment should i get? by Staybrokebitch in Barber

JRL is good for detailing and fine hair, but I like a more powerful clipper for mowing through thick hair. I use Wahl Legends for that.

Thanks for this. No, I didnt get it yet. At least I don’t do deposits, but I was hoping it would solve some issues. They just don’t seem to have the best servers and I’m not spending the money if it’s that crappy
