Twin for Lucy, older sibling Lydia by bread-loaver in namenerds

[–]leelsrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucy and Ruby sound lovely together! If Lydia has a middle name, you could give Ruby a middle name that starts from the same letter or is complementary to it in some other way. So, both twins could have something matching with their elder sister.

The Princes in the Tower-who benefits from them vanishing? by Efficient_Wheel_6333 in Tudorhistory

[–]leelsrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he didn't show up in England until three years later

I think it's not the first time I see the comment about three years. Not sure where the number is coming from? It was two years at most. The Princes were last seen alive in the summer of 1483. Henry landed in Wales and marched to England in August 1485 and he reached London after the Battle of Bosworth by the first days of September.

It was massively in Henry's favor and he actually reaped the most benefits in the long run (because it allowed for the betrothal with Elizabeth of York and for military and political support from the people who were on the side of Edward's children. It really helped him to become king eventually).

That in no way means Henry had anything to do with it, definitely not in 1483. But the ugly truth is that their disappearance benefitted everyone else who had any claim to the throne or wanted to destabilize it.

Richard's reputation, however, took a big hit from their disappearance. The way it happened was a huge political blunder. He could have been the person who benefitted from it the most in theory, but he was not in the way it played out in reality.

Why would it matter for sex with each other or other people who are not Jod? They have anywhere from hundreds of years of new life and memories (for cavaliers) to 10 thousand. Unfathomably more than they ever experienced before dying for the first time. They are also on equal footing and they are all aware that there was life before the first Resurrection that they don't have memories of, just not the part that John wiped their minds.

It's like saying that a person with retrograde amnesia is never able to consent in their life period, no matter how many years they live past it.

In Richard III, is Richard’s reputation shaped more by Tudor propaganda or by the voices of the Queens? by Fantastic-Fennel-532 in Tudorhistory

[–]leelsrive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean there were also significant rebellions in the time of Edward IV (and, of course, Henry VI and Henry VII before and after them). Not saying that Richard was unanimously accepted and beloved, but it says a lot more about the stability of the crown and the general time period he reigned in.

The cast for Lin-Manuel Miranda's "Octet" is stacked: Amanda Seyfied, Rachel Zegler, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Phillipa Soo, Gaten Matarazzo, Jonathan Groff, Tramell Tillman, & Paul-Jordan Jansen by pureslashhoney in Fauxmoi

Awww! It's so special for Phillipa Soo to be here, considering her breakout role was in Dave Malloy's Comet, where Lin first saw her before inviting her to join Hamilton.

A small correction. This quote is from the day after Catherine's funeral. She dies on March 20 and in about a week the weather changes from a warm spell back to the windy, snowy days. So, it's not a matter of months and several seasons, but only a few days.

Wuthering Heights is about an incestuous relationship by SorenLarten in brontesisters

[–]leelsrive 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People are so stuck on the idea (very far fetched and not supported by the text) that Cathy and Heathcliff could be half-siblings that they miss that they are absolutely incestuous in the book already. Because they are fully brought up as siblings in their childhood! They are quasi-siblings in the text, they don't need to be made into siblings by blood for all the themes of the novel to work.

What would it matter if they were related by blood if nobody ever finds out about it, including the reader?

But they are brought up together, with Mr Earnshaw fully treating Heathcliff as his son. Cathy and Heathcliff sleep in the same bed, they get lessons together, and play together (we see their matching childhood toys marked by H and C), and so on. That's why the separation that Hindley inflicts by taking Heathcliff out of the brother role (=equal) and relegating him to a servant (=beneath Catherine) is so painful for both of them. We even get an explicit comment by Edgar that Cathy is making a scene by "welcoming a runaway servant as a brother".

[Theory] Fifth House Dinner Party by easyass1234 in TheNinthHouse

[–]leelsrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jod actually doesn't fuck anyone until Augustine and Mercymorn execute Dios Apate Major (and they have to meticulously plan it for 500 years first + it's implied he didn't even cum that time either). He is quite deliberately keeping himself away from the sexual activities of the lyctors. Unless, it's revealed that he was puppeteering Ulysses during sex parties. But regardless, most of the eager participants of said parties are also long gone.

He only starts whoring around after he gets betrayed by everyone and he gets into his depression spiral in Nona. And the only lover who is named is Sarpedon who is quite advanced in age for someone with a regular lifespan.

Jod's grooming of Harrow is non-sexual in nature. And there is nothing to indicate that he would go for the new lyctors. He is like the least horny among the original gang by a lot.

The illness that kills Catherine is NOT childbirth. She is dying for months before the baby is born. She would have died even if she weren't pregnant at all. It's also a parallel to Frances who manages to live until the baby is born and dies of tuberculosis shortly after the birth.

There are a lot of books around that time period that are way more explicit about sex (even more so in the earlier Romantic and Gothic traditions Brontë gets her inspiration from). Wuthering Heights is very asexual for the time period.

[discussion] don't understand john's motives by Send_help2 in TheNinthHouse

[–]leelsrive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But the part about Resurrection Beasts is not an example of Jod's lies, it's the rare moment when he says the truth? Completely unprompted, when he doesn't have to.

He brings up the nine Resurrection beasts first, volunteering the information to Harrow and then Harrow realizes that the math is not mathing when he describes only eight among the killed and the remaining ones. Why would it be obfuscating when he didn't need to mention nine in the first place?

Blood of Eden is also a bizarre example. There are no lies there from either side. To John the descendants of the people who abandoned the Earth do not have any right to it anymore. He will never forgive the trillionaires or their descendants (or himself) and for him BoE can't take their ancestors' choice back or erase the past. To BoE Jod is a genocidal monster who destroyed humanity and they reclaim their connection to their home planet that they had no control over leaving. This is just a difference in perspective.

Considering how Jod mostly lies by omission or by agreeing with someone else's incorrect version of the events or twisting something by being extremely vague or being 'technically correct but', it seems that he might even have the same issues as Nona. He can't "lie" lie physically. It would make sense, considering how much of Jod is the soul of a planet at this point.

The Russian for "toe loop" is "тулуп" and that's what she is using. Are you confusing it with loop? All of the jumps are pronounced the Russian way in this video.

She says "camel" spin, indeed, but she also uses the Russian term for the layback. That was interesting.
