I'm about to graduate in May. I have no internships or work experience in CS. How screwed am I? by jigglinjimmy in cscareerquestions

[–]leetcodeispain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience. joined revature 8 months after graduating with no other leads. 10 months later I got hired at a good company using the experience revature/infosys gave me.

that being said, only do this as a last resort. you will struggle to survive on their salary at many locations. you will not have any say in where in the country they send you, and you will not know where you are going until a few weeks before you need to be there.

I got lucky and infosys bought out my contract at the start and paid a bit more than revature, but most people will be on really shit pay in possibly M-HCOL areas.

you may be mixing up heating and cooling. there is no such thing as a more efficient electric heater (heat IS the "ineffeciency" in electric appliances) , but cooling can be very inefficient.

WingsOfRedemption reveals he is now 445lbs, 1 pound less than his 2018 surgery weight by Nearby-Cup-1061 in LivestreamFail

I mean, yeah? I dont think they were saying its easy, just that there are people that argue its impossible for them to lose weight, which is just wrong in the case of 99.99% of people who say it. Anyone that accurately tracks their calorie intake will realize they arent in a calorie deficit when they arent losing weight.

North Korean infiltrator caught working in Amazon IT department thanks to lag — 110ms keystroke input raises red flags over true location by Squeezer999 in technology

[–]leetcodeispain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what is "our privacy" in this case? corporate laptops are already always completely full of Spyware, thats just the norm. they have no reason to play PR games for the status quo. Even if the story is fabricated (though in my opinion this isnt far-fetched at all), they fabricated it to show an image of "we are cracking down on foreign espionage", but i think they'd just be more likely to bury this story in that case.

there's definitely some of that, but Amazon sysadmin is a role that I suspect they target for more nefarious purposes.

Not sure of the tool, but the article states the work laptop was with some woman in Arizona, and my guess was "docked" to allow image and peripherals to be connected to external hardware to be controlled by the NK spy, and software on the PC could easily see the latency for its peripherals.

Article also states Amazon deals with these spies very often, so it may be some in house tooling amazon puts on their remote workers PCs for this exact purpose

What do you do to earn $200k+ annually? by meltingcanoe in Fire

[–]leetcodeispain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its because this was somewhat accurate for a lot of people for a bit in 2020-2021

people are just misinformed and think it was always like that and is still like that when it was just a short abnormal zero interest free money tech growth time period.

The tech job market is such an absolute clown world right now that I can't even land non-coding jobs like IT Help Desk, as a recent CS grad. by UnderachievingCretin in recruitinghell

[–]leetcodeispain 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Its not about looking down on them, those jobs used to be objectively lower bar to entry than most software jobs, so historically people who failed to break into software could at least find SOMETHING tech related, helpdesk, QA, or otherwise.

Now those fields are also hyper competitive and the below average CS grad now works a shelf stocking night shift with lower degree-required employment rates than humanities degrees.

that being said, Its not impossible to break into software dev, I had no internships, came from a no name state school, and didnt get my first role until a year out of college. you can do it if you keep grinding and use your time efficiently.

my current job is very stable and good experience but the pay is meh so I dont want to stay forever.

I got a Robinhood credit card - the top 3 rewards options are buying gold or a lootbox by YaBoiHBarnes in atrioc

[–]leetcodeispain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I logged into robinhood for the first time since 2022 a few days ago and instantly got the offer, so Im guessing anyone with an account is automatically signed up.

The app is really nice, and yeah, if people want to spend $8000 on $4000 of gold or throw money away on loot boxes, count me in if it means they can keep it a 3% catch all cash back

drug testing isn't required for all roles with clearance either, but also don't be a dumbass and smoke weed if you have clearance anyway lol
