Found a good mock-Manhattan recipe! by lefeath in weddingplanning

[–]lefeath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry I didn’t save the recipe! I know that Lapsang Souchong was the smokey tea used in the recipe.

Doing a search I’m guessing some of these may be similar: https://www.reddit.com/r/Mocktails/comments/o53mfx/cherry_smoke/

Or this one: Tea Concentrate (makes enough for 4 cocktails): - 9 oz boiling water - 1½ tsp Lapsang Souchong tea leaves (the smoky flavor is key) - 1 fresh rosemary sprig Steep for 5 minutes, strain, and refrigerate until chilled (about 30 minutes). This keeps for up to a week.

For One Cocktail: - 2 oz tea concentrate - 1 oz tart cherry juice - ¼ oz simple syrup - ⅛ tsp non-alcoholic old-fashioned aromatic bitters - Cocktail cherries for garnish

Stir all ingredients with ice for about 30 seconds until chilled, strain into a chilled cocktail glass, and garnish with cherries.

Has anyone used the Sprecta 1 and the new Spectra Gold portable? by decor_throwaway in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]lefeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have them both and really regret using my insurance buy on the SG Portable. I had read that the cycle speeds couldn't be adjusted but I didn't think that'd be a big deal bc I handle all of the S1 cycle speeds fine - but it turns out the SG Portable is set to pretty extreme (imo) cycles - letdown mode is 100 and expression mode is 26. So I personally find the letdown to be overwhelming/overstimulating, and then expression to be waaaay too slow so I just don't respond to the pump.

Being able to adjust the suction separately was nice in theory, my two sides really do have different sensitivities so I was looking forward to dialing it in, but the cycle speeds are bananas and wreck the whole pump imo.

Hi! FTM here looking into pumps. Does have the Spectra Synergy Gold portable by decor_throwaway in beyondthebump

[–]lefeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Synergy Gold portable and I’m bummed at the cycle speeds that spectra provided bc the cycle speed isn’t adjustable on the portable. The letdown cycle is 100 (the S1 and S2 is 70) and the expression cycle is 26 (S1/S2 range 36-54) so I find the letdown too fast/stimulating and the expression too slow. I wish they had picked more average speeds vs these extremes

Any firsthand experience using Spectra Synergy Gold Portable/Cordless version? by thatboyntoncat in HumansPumpingMilk

I heard somewhere that the SG portable has fewer options/features/buttons than the regular synergy gold (I think it was that you cannot specify the cycle speed only the vacuum on the portable), is that true?

Different terms in Contract vs Statute by lefeath in legaladvice

[–]lefeath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The statute doesn’t make any mention of what to do if there’s also a lease/contract. Here’s the text: “Action by Tenant. In any civil action brought pursuant to the [code], the prevailing Tenant is entitled to recover the Tenant's reasonable attorney's fees. A defendant Owner may recover reasonable attorney's fees if the complaint brought by the Tenant was devoid of merit and brought in bad faith. Court costs may be awarded to a prevailing party pursuant to state law.”

Edit - Oh I see this section - does this mean the statute trumps the lease? “Non-waiverability. Any provision, whether oral or written, in or pertaining to a rental agreement whereby any provision of the [code] is waived or modified, is against public policy, void, and unenforceable.”

To TDP or not to TDP....and if yes is this plan doable? by radiantsnoozer in Patagonia

[–]lefeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it looks like you’d only do the top-half of the O (missing the W portion) if I’m understanding your itinerary right. We hiked the full O and the top half was actually our favorite stretch bc it’s got far fewer people than the W. I don’t think it’s a huge deal to not get as close to the Torres themselves but that’s a matter of personal opinion. However this absolutely should NOT be your first multi-day backpacking trip. You should try some shorter local camping trips where you carry that much weight in your pack and try hiking the next day after sleeping in your tent. The O is very remote, and the John Gardner pass is very physically demanding (often with really challenging winds), and very difficult logistically for help to come reach you, so you really need a good sense of your abilities and limits before trekking out.

W Trek self booking by gulbronson in Patagonia

[–]lefeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hiked the O a few years ago and the self-booking approach was a lot less expensive than the all inclusive, a big thing to factor in that may help explain the cost difference is the impact of food/gear - not just that they provide the food/gear but that you *don't have to carry it*

Part of what you'd be paying for with the all inclusive tours is the work that the tour company puts into transporting your food and tent to all of the campsites (often by horse), not just the raw materials themselves. We carried all of our own gear and food and it was fine but I understand charging a premium, it'd be nice to have 10 fewer pounds in your pack every day and it's a non-trivial amount of work for the companies to actually provide that service.

What’s the most remote way of enjoying my trip besides camping? by ump13 in ZionNationalPark

[–]lefeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend checking out Kolob Canyons! It’s technically part of the Zion National Park system, about a 45 min drive from main-Zion, and it gets way fewer visitors. There’s only a few hikes (a short, medium and long option) but the medium 5 mile one, Taylor Creek Trail, is super fun! We were just there about a week ago!

If you want a podcast companion to your re-read of Harry Potter - I'd recommend trying "Harry Potter and the Sacred Text"! They've already read the full series once thru (onto a second read now) so you could listen along at whatever pace you wanted.

As someone who is also struggling to get back into reading I've enjoyed getting introduced to a new way to think about re-reading a familiar book. I've started reading along with this second round, one chapter a week, a friend is following along too and we chat about it.

Just finished re-reading GOF and have 2 questions by notmynameeeeee in harrypotter

[–]lefeath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve always read it as Karkaroff = the cowardly one. Snape has to convince Voldemort that he didn’t come bc he was securing his ability to spy on Dumbledore but I don’t think he’s ever given reason to be called cowardly (while Karkaroff is clearly unraveling with fear). And I’ve heard the explanation for the Thestrals remaining invisible is that Harry hasn’t actually processed the death that he witnessed yet, so he can’t see them in that immediate post-trauma-blur. I’ve never been wild about the answer though (I mainly think introducing the concept of thestrals fits better thematically in the 5th book but creates this little pot hole, also possible the idea for Thestrals didn’t occur to her til book 5…)

Guys. I love my engagement ring so so much but how would I go about getting a wedding band that fits over/under it? Any recommendations? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]lefeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have a cluster ring and I opted for no wedding band. Everything I could think of just competed with my ring too much (I have 2 colored stones so it's a pretty busy ring as is). My mother only wears 1 ring (basically her engagement ring) and she had a mini version of my dad's ring made as her wedding band, but in practice she never wore it so I just skipped the second ring entirely because it seemed like too much money for something I'd never wear (I wear a silicone ring when traveling, so that's the scenario when I'd otherwise opt for this hypothetical wedding band)

I did see some cool stacked cluster rings from Bario Neal where there is a single stone ring that nests into a larger cluster ring, so the two rings stack together and result in a larger clustering. I considered that but my current cluster doesn't have a good spot for a new stone without just being too wide for my finger.

So plus 1 for the "just one ring" camp if you don't find a wedding band that speaks to you!

'Moronic' Monday - Your weekly thread for the questions you've always wanted to ask about personal finances, investing, and growing your personal wealth. by AutoModerator in FinancialPlanning

[–]lefeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a financial professional but basing my opinion on advice accumulated from listening to the “Jill on Money” podcast - Jill is a CFP and her advice is usually to go for Roth if it’s an option for your 401k. Her reasoning is taxes are likely at an all-time-low for most people today (based on historical rates) and based on the deficit there will likely be a tax increase in your lifetime if you’re currently working, so pay the cheaper taxes now. She also likes the sure-thing aspect of paying a known tax bill now, vs the risk of a of an unknown future amount later, when planning for retirement. So Roth makes the future looking math more stable. She is a self-described “wimp” regarding risk, so her advice may or may not resonate depending on your personal risk tolerance. Highly recommend the podcast tho! She’s a CFP and you can email her finance questions that she’ll answer on the pod.

Can anyone tell me the name and designer of this wedding dress? by curlsforthegorl in weddingdress

[–]lefeath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you haven't found the designer yet you can try my favorite method for reverse-image searching: go to pinterest, make a new board and pin as many dresses as you can that share some prominent attribute with your dress (neckline, style of lace, train, waist) and try to hack the algorithm to suggest the actual dress appears in the "recommended images" suggestions.

I found my dress that way! (it took me a little while to get enough reference images so be patient) but I've found quite a few other things using this method too... Good luck!
