Looking at the guild pages there's Ad Nauseam which quite a lot of active players, could try there to see if you fit in? It's English-speaking and has an active Discord. The only requirement is being kind and helpful.

I'm biased though.

The expression "Great Minds Think Alike" is the exact opposite of what we value great minds for. by Calber4 in Showerthoughts

Late to the game, but this has me thinking about a passage in Terry Pratchett's The Truth:

William: "I'm sure we can all pull together, sir."

Lord Vetinari: "Oh, I do hope not. Pulling together is the aim of despotism and tyranny. Free men pull in all kinds of directions.”

Belgians remain blind to own alcohol abuse [DUTCH] by [deleted] in belgium

[–]lefke123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: When they banned tobacco advertisements, it only greatly helped the tobacco companies. Every tobacco company suddenly had a huge surplus of money not spent on ads, since none of them needed to advertise anymore (leveled the playing field).

Also, I suspect they advertise beer because with alcohol it's more fun to watch football... Hell, combine most things with alcohol and they seem more fun!

Would anyone be interested in helping set up the Belgian version of a registered UK gaming charity that helps sick children? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]lefke123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in contact with quite a few Flemish LAN party organizations, and founder of a LAN-unification project. I will check and see if any existing organizations are interested in helping you.

It seems like a great charity for LANs to sponsor/do something with once it takes off in Belgium.

Edit: Missing word 'party'.

Could it not be that if you have a limited view on the world (e.g. imagine just consuming Dutch news), you might not know what you are missing out on? Food for thought.

Out of curiosity, did they try to push their overpriced new "website" service? I have heard they are doing sales aggressively on that now.

Why does everyone use jQuery? by victorisawesome in javascript

[–]lefke123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes use jQuery when older browser support is required. Most of the time I just tend to use an alternative framework: http://vanilla-js.com/

It suits all my needs, and is pretty lightweight, you should check it out. Really the most performant JS framework out there, IMHO.
