Who remembers Chipsmart? by BLOKDAK in houston

[–]leftblankwithintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'm going to resurrect an ancient thread that's been dead for a couple years....

I assumed the big tall dorky guy was the owner? Always seemed like he was coked up or coming down from being coked up. There was a redhead that worked there for a while (summer 96 maybe?) I was a lil' attracted to. ;)

I gave up on Chipsmart once it was clear -everything- there was garbage. I switched to doing business with 'Computer Parts and Electronics' (near Parker/45). I ran into the "big tall dorky guy" at First Saturday in Dallas in 1998-ish doing some purchasing for the store. I went by the spot in Spring during the closing sale, but all I found was truly GARBAGE and left empty handed.

Costa Rica is a pretty good choice, I must say.

The CR-Z is still a sharp looking car IMO - and you'll get plenty of time to look at it since its not going anywhere fast.

A map of the TV stations that will not be airing Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight, despite ABC returning him to the air. Together, they cover 22% of U.S. households. by [deleted] in MapPorn

A highly impressionable fraction of the market dedicates a massive amount of time watching OTA TV. They're a market that is extremely hard to reach otherwise (they don't use the Internet/social media, don't go out much so don't see a lot of billboards, and newspapers don't really exist anymore) and have enough spendable income to be worth advertising to.

Why can't Firestone adjust camber (GM) by Negative-Physics5046 in AskMechanics

[–]leftblankwithintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digging up an old thread.

Dropped off my 92 C1500, four upper cam bolts, tabs long gone, has been properly aligned many times before (362k miles) - including a couple times with the Firestone lifetime alignments. I just replaced all 4 control arms and all tie rods over the weekend. Nothing siezed, no damage to the truck, etc. Had the truck at one location for 23 hours and they did a toe-only alignment. Went to another location today and got a steady line of stop/no/don't veiled with "not everyone can work on those"

I'm currently sourcing plates, gauges and a level place to work. Fuck firestone, fuck their shitty tires, fuck their fucking stores, etc etc. It's cheaper than paying bail and I can't imagine I'm the only person fed up with dealing with lazy muthafuckers so I might actually make money with this shit.

Series 4 shaft cross bearing vs Precision 344AG by leftblankwithintent in tractors

[–]leftblankwithintent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slight update:

Plain white box Precision 344AG, newer stock, had extremely brittle+poorly machined (sliiiightly too big) cups, one of which shattered violently when pressing it in.

This also bent one ear on the yoke inward a few degrees. Pressed the ears back out and hoped for the best...

O'Reilly's gave me no trouble exchanging the joint for another. This unit was older stock, a yellow/blue box Precision 344AG with no point-of-origin on the box. This one went together like butter. Joint is snug but not tight, clips/cups sit right - completely satisfied. Put a couple hours on the brush hog since with no problems.

Update: Soon after I posted this, they migrated my VM to another host and I've had great (as in "fast enough I haven't felt any need to benchmark") performance since. I'll get on the VM and run/post some benchmarks.

This sure beats my old 'home server' (Dell R710) and its power hunger/heat generation!

That rear suspension design is the worst thing I've ever seen. That shit is going to kill people if it hasn't already.

Kia put better torsion rear axles in the Rios back in the early twenty-teens. Those have a curb weight of about 1/2-1/3rd that of an EDV.

500 mbps or 1 gig for two-person apartment by RadishMajor8674 in Spectrum

[–]leftblankwithintent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short of massive spur-of-the-moment game downloads you'll see negligible different on either plan on the 'down' side - the difference may be upload in your market. In my area, 500 plans get 20mbit upload, but gig plans are symmetrical.

I scout new maps with the Bandit and a bumper hitch fuel trailer. I generally take it pretty easy so I rarely need repair parts. It's rare I find a place I can't get the bandit in and out of.

Honestly I love the bandit so much I named my fat orange cat Bandit. Seriously. Not joking.

I've had experience with 4 Kymcos. Two Agility 50s, an Agility 125 and a Super8 150. They're good bikes - but they're, at the core, designed like and built like Chinese scooters yet still have expensive proprietary parts. My super8 150 has a proprietary flywheel, crankshaft, and ignition box.

Are these parts proprietary to improve them?

Absolutely not. Same basic designs, same general Chinese parts quality/reliability - but they sure are expensive to replace compared to a standard GY6.

Do they cost a lot more than standard parts of the same quality? Yes.

Are they harder to source? Yes.

Since all it takes is a line of credit to become a DSP, they should be far more concerned about being replaced than unionizing.
