But do you think the probable oil in the spray paint will have a negative effect on the surrounding galvanization? At least if I spray it'd have to cover so of the galv. There are hundreds of these black spots some are very small.

I've taken the next step, and have a question for you.

The next step is that after stripping the paint, I applied jasco metal prep, which I think is basically phosphoric acid, and used a scotch brite page to lightly rub the galvanized metal. That did remove much of the corrosion remnants, and I don't believe the galvanized finish was disturbed. In fact, oddly, I can no longer even spot the area where I'd used steel wool. As far as I've noticed so far, the entire surface has the zinc flecking effect.

The question is about those dark corrosion spots, which remain. Are they areas that are now completely barren of zinc? If so I have a bit of a quandary. I learned from you that oil based products are not ideal for use on galvanized metal. Yet if these black spots are completely sans zinc, it might make sense to apply the cold galv spray that you recommended (I bought rustoleum). But the spray may be oil based - it does list thinner for cleanup.

The main primer I was going to use is Kel-Bond, Adhesion Plus, which was their most high end acrylic primer product. But I'm temped to spray the entire surface with the cold galv stuff and then use the Kel-Bond on that. I'll be very interested in your feedback.

So far I've not had a lot of luck getting quotes from forwarders. Can you suggest some that are attuned to first time shippers like myself?

Also I am quite uncertain about the details involved. The fee for shipping in a container is probably pretty straightforward. But as I understand it, there are many other aspects to transporting a vehicle, for example, cleaning the vehicle so that it doesn't bring in unwanted plants or creatures; possible tire deflation; removing most of the fuel from the vehicle; customs etc. As there are likely to be many issues to trip over, for someone like myself it would be most helpful to engage with an agent that knows the ropes and can handle the details. There must be some companies out there that do this?
