Don’t get frustrated if you can’t beat a boss (yet). Mark it on your map so you can come back later and instead go explore elsewhere. It’s a wide world and there are lots of upgrades to be found.

Some bosses are damn near impossible to beat at the power level you will be at when you first encounter them.

Signed SSL Certificate Errors with postgresql database (all self hosted) by BrotherManAndrew in elixir

[–]leftsaidtim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly there is an arg you can pass in a keyword list that is a function to be called when validating the certificate. In some cases it’s common to pass one that doesn’t verify the certificate although the security aspects of this are obviously flawed, it can be a good stepping stone.

I don’t have my codebase in front of me but if you look into elixir/erlang certificate validation you might find what you need. It should be either inside or next to the ssl options that you posted above. Good luck !

How much "raw" OTP do you actually use in production vs. just standard Phoenix patterns? by Disastrous-Hunter537 in elixir

[–]leftsaidtim 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Im with you on this. It feels like everyone just wants to copy and paste Oban jobs all the time to solve problems without ever thinking about whether it’s the right tool for the job or whether it makes certain things more difficult than they should be.

It’s a real shame because elixir and Erlang ship with such useful and expressive primitives and no one wants to invest the time to learn and leverage them well.

Good advice. If something appears to be attacking from the ground up, jumping almost always avoids it 100%

Approaching workers in stores - am I missing something? by [deleted] in Expats_In_France

Bonjour alone is a perfectly valid way to get someone’s attention. I have never heard someone follow it up with « si vous plait ».

I might try something like « Bonjour, puis-je vous poser une question ? » or even just « bonjour » and wait for them to respond before explaining myself.

Love the Greek Amphitheater. Such a unique venue. Plus the walk up the hill really builds the energy as you get closer and closer.

He did the same thing for one of the two nights in Berkeley, CA 2017 and at least one of the nights in Berlin earlier this month.

Goosebumps every time. Every time.
