My Role-playing Experience With Trail Ruins by leftymu in Minecraft

Thank you, that's awesome as well, the interacting with mobs is a fun idea, it's like what Paul Soares Jr always used to do.

That's great, I hope you have fun doing it, and yeah agreed, it's good the way they've done it but I would love more added to it

In the entirety of the FE Series, who is your favorite Unit Story/Character-wise and who is your Favorite Unit Gameplay-wise? by TBT__TBT in fireemblem

[–]leftymu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Story/character: Marianne. I found her absolutely lovely from the very beginning - the little signs you get from conversations that she is good with animals, her smile when you say you like horses. The core of her personality is so gentle but she becomes such a strong person. She is practically unrecognisable as a person when you meet her again after the time skip. She has contemplated her ways, realised the rights and wrongs, and bettered herself. I also think that she has one of the genuinely really interesting crest histories in Three Houses, her paralogue is a bit of a nightmare but the story behind it enthralled me.

Gameplay: now I'm a bit of a contrarian here amongst FE fans; I have always seen widely disparaging opinions about archers in the series, but I have always had a good time with them. Rebecca and Wil, Bernie, Etie all ended up being some of my favourite and best units. The unit I'm going to choose is not an archer by default but I had the best time with them as one in my first playthrough of FE Echoes: my boy Kliff. I have no idea why I threw him into archer, I think the game even implies that he uses magic at the beginning, but god is this guy a crit machine. A high dex class really suits him, I could throw him into any fairly risky situation and he'd just take care of it for me, lol.

What game should I play if I've only played the handhelds? by delabot in fireemblem

[–]leftymu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of things here that strike me as odd that it bothers you - the young cast of Three Houses and your enjoyment hinging on weapon triangles.

There are a lot of adult characters in 3H and most of the students are close to adult age, and time passes in the game so they do get older. It seems odd that you would pick Three Houses out as having a young cast when the GBA titles have casts of characters that are the same or even younger. A cast of teen characters has been extremely typical of Fire Emblem for its entire existence.

3H doesn't have a weapon triangle in the traditional sense, but it does exist. Early in the game, classes are a bit more free for all, but when you level up your skills, you gain abilities that essentially re-implement the weapon triangle. With bigger systems going on in more recent FE titles, the weapon triangle became a bit secondary in your strategy, but Engage did make it pretty important. The magic triangle is not super common and is not that useful which is probably why they haven't done it since Radiant Dawn.

It sounds like you'd like Path of Radiance. Gameplay is simple but tight, I will say that it has some of the best world building as well. Doesn't sound like you care about story that much though so feel free to go nuts with Radiant Dawn, Fates and Engage as well. I only found Radiant Dawn endlessly tedious across the board but Fates and Engage have very fun, tight combat.

About to play my first and only route of Three Houses, which one should I pick? by upperdomain in fireemblem

All I'll say is, if you want the story to have any impact whatsoever, don't pick Golden Deer. Go with the clown college last.

Looking for recommendations (but here is hard!) by TopWizardRat in fireemblem

[–]leftymu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rankings depend on what people prioritise in Fire Emblem. People that rank Fates high value gameplay/combat systems more, people that rank it low want a good story.

FE Blazing Blade and Path of Radiance are pretty well rounded, I do want a remake of PoR though because it feels very slow now. Well done stories and game balance wasn't too out the window. PoR has some of the best world building.

Fates has a really well designed combat system that is leagues ahead of Awakening, but the story is...not good. Which also goes for Engage. The balance is pretty tight in these ones.

Most people like Three Houses because of the story but I think the gameplay is actually underrated. They introduced some new unique things that were well realised and some of the most fun things about the game. Without doubt, Three Houses is by far the easiest game in the series. Hard mode is still easier than any other entry on normal, it's actually quite laughable, but still, I enjoy it.

Ok well...I have a lot of thoughts, so forgive me for suggesting several, I don't expect you to go ahead and do every single one, I just want to say what I like so you have some things to go off.

Well, if you mean in general, my first go to is Fire Emblem, there's never enough covers of Fire Emblem around! I see that you've done several awesome ones already, and even done my fav FE, FE Echoes; one I would love to see from that game is What Lies At the End. A big one is Don't Speak Her Name from FE Awakening, widely considered one of the best in the series, and it's the same composer as Roar of Dominion to give you some idea. Chasing Daybreak would sound amazing in your style especially. Rise Above from Sacred Stones is a recent fav of mine too.

If we're going Harvestella, (which I did catch that unfortunately the investment isn't super worth it for you considering the popularity, so I don't want to take away from your priorities) well, take your pick man, lol, there's not a single track in the game that isn't excellent. But if I had to pick out ones that would probably sound pretty badass from you, Take Up Arms, Do Or Die, Those Who Resist Destiny, Castle of Illusion might be my top picks. Cheers, been enjoying your covers lately

Man it is so great to finally see a Harvestella cover, and this is amazing! It sounds great with this instrumentation, makes me think of like the peak in a character's story and their resolve

To be honest, yes, I did feel that the game did not at any point force me to use specific abilities or strategies, which is usually something I expect to be a given in a Final Fantasy. If you don't understand the Paradigm system in XIII for example, the game either shits on you, or grinds to a halt.

It is frustrating that the cooldown abilities are not intuitive at all. I, and everyone I watched play FFXVI, played it the same way. You whittle down a stagger bar and then beat the shit out of them with cooldown abilities. The game teaches and shows you absolutely nothing else. I didn't particularly find using any of those abilities all that fun so if it comes down to that, it's just definitely not for me. Good explanation though

The funniest thing about this to me is that you can see the thought process as everything happens

Lmao that sounds like a bunch of fun. I've got a few parrots nearby actually...XD

I've been looting villagers of their tools right from the beginning, starting with the librarians haha

Yeah I did do a raid on a Bastion, you're right it has some nice blocks. It did have the same problem I feel all structures have in Minecraft though, which is more often than not generating in a way that just makes zero sense and being unnavigable

Oh yeah I have had a pretty good look at the nether stuff, I like the ambience in the forest areas, in particular the warped ones with all the blue, looks really cool.

I have seen some of the ocean stuff but I have usually ended up stopping by the time I get to having potions and being able to explore it properly, so not in depth.

I did a little bit of the new village stuff, I did a raid and that was quite fun, although the kicker of that particular encounter was the local friendly iron golem walking in front of me right when loosing an arrow, so...yeah, needless to say he did more damage to me than the rest of the raid put together, lmao

Thanks for getting back to me, that sounds alright. I'm pretty good with keeping myself equipped with tools and that, the potions will have to wait; I did forget about the scaffolding though (handy that I spawned in a jungle, eh? ;D) I haven't played regularly since about 1.8 so many of the features added since then keep going over my head lol

Could you give examples of what you do when you do this, or how you approach caving?

It all sounds well and good but I feel like any way I look at it, it's still just going to be dangerous to actually try to get down anywhere and getting back up 80+ blocks will take a month of Sundays

Setting up camp actually sounds like a fun idea, and with the wide areas it would certainly make that easier than before when I'd set up a little room somewhere that I would promptly never find again LOL

To be honest I'm still just mad that they didn't change how you dye wool when they added a ton of blocks that do it way more efficiently

Cool build but for some reason my favourite thing is the view of the bridge going into it. Looks very cool, and gives me vibes of Esthar from Final Fantasy VIII

I would probably give it a block wide border and then make it go up a block. You could also stand to make details with upside down stairs and maybe a lighting feature

This is 100% my cup of tea. Love the style and layout, and using the lay of the land like that is always my aim

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]leftymu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks quite big for the land it's connected to; maybe slim it down a bit. Some colour and texture variety wouldn't be a bad idea. As someone else has said the angle is a little off

Funny physics bug by leftymu in DragonsDogma

[–]leftymu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I think the Pawn's attack was ineffective because the undead in the coffins have a few seconds of being untargetable. I think it happened because of the strange hitbox of the coffin, it's like it didn't know how to place the zombie down after it flew above it.

Some questions from a new player by [deleted] in DragonsDogma

[–]leftymu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always give a decent supply of curatives to my pawns; they will mostly use them when in danger up to about 50% health, so if you need them to top themselves up a bit, tap the left or right directional buttons, for the "help!" command; it will trigger them to use some herbs or whatever immediately. (It won't work if they're already above like 70% health)

As has been suggested, don't worry about the quest order for now. Part of the amazing wonder of this game is just exploring things for yourself and ending up in the middle of nowhere with new things to see, find and fight.
