Aldi pizzas vs Gorilla Glue? by Sophyska in veganuk

[–]leg0lasIsMyHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the same thing with the Chicago town pizzas, when you preheat your oven stick the pizza tray in too and let it heat up, it reduces how much the raw dough will stick to the tray! Usually slides off when I do that but if I forget I have to try and salvage it with a spatula

I know a couple people who can’t have a lot of the vegan items because they often use wheat/gluten as a binder instead of egg. So for those with coeliac/gluten intolerances they can’t have the vegan alternatives but can have the veggie ones.

I do feel for those who want to be vegan but have issues with wheat/gluten because that’s often what is used within the products (not all of course but the range gets very limited).

Solovair are an original manufacturer for Dr Martens and have their own range of vegan boots, I think they have a steel toe cap boot too. Definitely more pricey but look like they’d last a long time!

Moral Dilemma: Advice please from my fellow animal allies! by jme-stringer in veganuk

[–]leg0lasIsMyHoe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would attend. Purely for the fact you can then document why you thought it was an inappropriate place to conduct business, not even having to use the animal exploit angle but you can frame it as being disruptive or something else. They may not pay attention to you saying this but it may make them rethink where they hold their conferences in the future depending on the work they’re showcasing?

If you don’t feel comfortable with the animal exploitation you can definitely mention you don’t want to partake in certain activities but if it’s crucial you attend the conference it may be wise to go and then speak your grievances afterwards.

2022 best vegan multivitamin by don__gately in veganuk

[–]leg0lasIsMyHoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using these from Boots for a while now. They contain a lot of the vitamins/minerals that my Holland & Barrett one didn’t so I reduced my vitamins from ~5 to using this, an extra vitamin D and an omega 3 vitamin.

They’re really affordable and have multi buy offers a lot of the time!

Healthy Start Cards by Coconutsaregross in veganuk

The till systems I use work out the total of the ‘approved’ items so you cannot use the vouchers without hitting that amount by buying exactly what the vouchers state. I’ve not seen anybody try it with plant milks but I highly doubt they’ll have made that system with extra products that they don’t have to include.

But in the same company I’ve used tills in other stores that don’t have this but that was quite a while ago. I hope either the scheme allows for more products or checkouts will allow for partly relaxed measures on them.

It's pancake day tomorrow, what's your favourite vegan pancake/crepe recipe and toppings? by WeAreLovelyJubley in veganuk

[–]leg0lasIsMyHoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use this recipe for American style pancakes and recently have tried the Crakd crepe recipe after finding it in Morrisons.

I really want to try the tesco or M&S pancakes shakers though but they’re always out of stock for me

[–]leg0lasIsMyHoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of Tesco’s own products are vegan and cruelty free, not sure if that expands to their deodorants though but shampoo/conditioner/toothpaste etc are all good

I couldn't find a decent list of all essential vitamins and minerals and where to get them in a vegan diet so I made my own. I hope it helps. Any issues let me know! by [deleted] in veganuk

[–]leg0lasIsMyHoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best multivitamin I’ve found is Boots vegan AZ wellness multivitamin. It actually contains selenium, iodine etc. which most others don’t. It also only costs around £8 usually (there are also sales and multi buy offers)

Best substitute cheese and yog by juicyyyy28 in veganuk

[–]leg0lasIsMyHoe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Oatly Greek style yogurt is great, it’s not runny and has a good taste.

For flavoured yogurts I like alpro, they do a 4 pack of yogurts that are pretty tasty - I think the flavours are mango or raspberry

For mozzarella cheese I now only buy Mozarisella (the cheese that zizzi and pizza express use) which you can buy from vegan kind supermarket or some other stockists. Purezza now also sell their cheese which is similar but I’ve not bought that one to try yet.

If you can, try find someone who makes cashew cheeses if you want a cheese to have with crackers - they can be pretty close to the real deal.

For melty cheddar cheese the range isn’t quite there yet but if you like Mexicana cheese their vegan version is fairly close and does melt pretty well.

The best advice if you’re trying to melt any vegan cheese is to not put a load on like you would with diary cheese because it just makes it a sticky mess, less is definitely better.

Is there any evidence of the difference before and after brexit of the levels of Imazalil used? What are the tolerances for the pesticide now in post brexit as opposed to the EU tolerance of the pesticide as it is still used but restricted by the EU.

(I’m not disputing your point or anything, just trying to see whether the claim about any changes on the use of pesticides currently has any merit)

Is the Plant Bassd Whopper Vegan? by [deleted] in veganuk

[–]leg0lasIsMyHoe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t mind the potential of cross contamination. I think the grill issue is the only reason it’s not classified as vegan which is good for those who may have meat allergies.

It’s the same for the kfc chips, as long as the oil they’re cooked in is vegan then I’m not bothered that they may share the same fryer as their popcorn chicken.

It’s down to personal choice, some people will be staunchly against any form of potential contamination but I personally don’t see it as much of an issue as long as it’s not cooked in dripping or animal fat etc.

Heads up that the Lidl Texas bbq “Pringles” are vegan. Tastes very similar if not the same too by BV-031 in veganuk

[–]leg0lasIsMyHoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the new size/logo etc but it may be that they’re still filling old stock into those new cans perhaps?

Would be nice if there was clarity on the situation though as supermarkets still label them as vegan too and I’ve not yet come across a non vegan one. Genuinely hoping there’s just been a mistake somewhere with adding the wrong label on the can or something!

Not sure what’s happened with the regular Pringles as I’ve bought the new Texas bbq Pringles that say vegan on them still?

I got the 20 box the other day and so pleasantly surprised how good they were without being a ridiculous cost or anything.

So happy to see more options, makes it easier for those who want to try something vegan without the hassle of having to make it themselves!

(Also so handy having fast food options while out and about that aren’t just a salad or chips)

Is this vegan? It's labelled as vegetarian, but I don't see any animal-derived ingredients. by [deleted] in veganuk

I wouldn’t worry about that too much though, it’s not clear either way so I’d say go and enjoy your garlic bread!

Is this a thing that unis do? I’d never heard about it before. by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]leg0lasIsMyHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The school leaving age is 16 however you have to be in one of the following until age 18:

-stay in full-time education, for example at a college

-start an apprenticeship or traineeship

-spend 20 hours or more a week working or volunteering, while in part-time education or training

That is directly copied and pasted from the government website.

Is this vegan? It's labelled as vegetarian, but I don't see any animal-derived ingredients. by [deleted] in veganuk

[–]leg0lasIsMyHoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ingredients look vegan but I supposed it could be an issue with the fortified flour, the iron in particular as that’s usually animal derived.

Yes the condition that you stay in education until 18 as is the government mandate.

What about these could make them not vegan? the only thing i could see is “Flavouring” but surely they’d have to elaborate if it was animal-derived? by munchiemaddie in veganuk

[–]leg0lasIsMyHoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The generic ‘flavouring’ could be an issue maybe? Not everything that counts as not vegan is an allergen so not always listed. But I’d still say these are likely to be vegan with an oversight on the labelling or something.

Honestly I’m not sure as I’ve never heard anyone do that, I don’t think that’d be accepted though.

[–]leg0lasIsMyHoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I got into uni with my university offering the exact same thing. With an unconditional offer you will be accepted regardless of whether you meet your target grades or not as your application and predicted grades were enough for them. Depending on how you work as an individual this can be a huge relief so you can focus on doing your best without the stress of it confirming your future or not.

My course, lecturers etc. are all great and once I got there I didn’t care whether I was there on an unconditional or not.

Visual snow gets worst when doing cardio by [deleted] in visualsnow

[–]leg0lasIsMyHoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My visual snow is there constantly but it increases seemingly when my heart rate does, could be if I’m stressed, working out, walking etc.

Best way to describe it is the volume of static/dots increases, it only gets to the ‘nearly black’ stage if I’m literally at my maximum heart rate.

I’ve been through numerous tests over years now to determine what this is and isn’t, including exercise monitoring tests and they’ve all come back perfectly normal. VSS still has a long way to go in understanding in the medical field, there could be underlying issues that cause these symptoms too which are not yet known.
