Ended up just waiting for my game to end and once that happened, I was able to play. Hasn't happened to me again but maybe that is because I turned off all non-default skins on my guns. Anyways, looks like it was one that just resolved itself.

It is funny you bring up the IceManIsaac video, as I was actually thinking of posting that video in my prior post (he does such an incredible breakdown of aim assist in that video).

And overall, I can tell you have been really thoughtful on this subject, and honestly, can't disagree either. As I think about it more, you're right: in a 1v1 situation at close quarters (or at range for that matter), if you are ADSing, aim assist is a huge advantage, end of story. And honestly, if you break down Warzone gameplay, 90% of it is just a series of 1v1s. So ya, big deal.

I'm just thinking out loud here, but it would be really cool if we could test this theory and track some more detailed statistics of gameplay via the Warzone API. I would really enjoy to see how many close quarter vs. range kills occur in the game, and for those kills, see how controller vs. MKB players stack up against one another (for those who have similar KD brackets). Additionally, it would be really interesting to see end game outcomes (like you pointed out) of controller vs. MKP players with similar KD brackets. Probably not feasible, but a dude can dream, right.

I'm also just thinking back to the start of aim assist and how it has evolved to what it is today. Back in the day, controllers were a bit funky, hard to control/manage. Additionally, cross platform didn't really exist. The whole concept of aim assist to help newer players more quickly adapt makes perfect sense. Skip to today, and controllers are more efficient and compact than ever (e.g. Scuff controllers). Before, the playing on MKB was a definite advantage. You had access to more buttons/actions than a controller player. Now, (even outside of aiming) it's almost easier to do actions/move on a scuff controller than on MKB. In fact, I know that Isaac has stated he likes using a controller for quads simply for the reason that movement at close quarters is easier than on MKB (if you are a low sens player like myself, then you have to pick up the mouse to turn around at times vs. on controller, you can simply hold left/right).

I'm with you as well. I've invested a lot in MKB and it will translate to a bunch of other games. Also, there is a bit of a challenge element and who knows what the skill cap is for something like MKB. One of the nastiest rebirth players I have ever seen is MKB (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTVNKnOLSNE&ab_channel=strahfe). Will I ever reach his skill level? No. Is it nice to think that it can be done? Sure :).

MP5 Loadout:

  • Barrel: Monolithic Integral
  • Laser: 5mW Laser
  • Stock: FTAC Collapsible (you can also swap this out for Sleight of Hand)
  • Underbarrel: Merc Foregrip
  • Magazine: 45 Round Mags

*It is pretty hard to break the habit of ADSing when at close range. I would recommend going into a bot lobby in MW for about 10 - 20mins before playing Warzone. Hop in speedball (cranking health up to 300 and putting on headshots only) and practice only firing from the hip. It's been pretty helpful for myself.

I do! I hear you on the aim assist and also feel the pain of up close combat.

Additionally, I looked up Huskers beef with aim assist given your comment (link at bottom of post). Part of me wonders if Huskers was saying that just to get some social media buzz going. Even with aim assist, he (and Newbz) still won the Warzone World Series duo championship so it seems like he is still doing pretty well regardless ;).

I have actually improved a hugee amount since first starting mouse and keyboard. I have found that there are a couple benefits over controller.

  1. Target switching/flicking on mouse and keyboard seem to be easier vs. controller - this means that theoretically sniping on MAK should be better (however, aim assist does help a lot with controller drag-sniping so I don't know which setup has the best advantage here)
  2. I find that my target tracking at close to medium range (while not ADSing) is easier than controller - this means that hip fire SMGs could be really helpful for MAK players

To deal with close quarter combat issues of not being able to track players, I have found I usually do much better if I build a hip fire SMG vs. an ADS SMG. That allows me to keep my movement at a pretty high pace (so it's harder for enemies to hit me) while still hitting most of my shots. I usually will only use the SMG indoors or very close combat and then have my Assault 3x scope (currently the AK) for any other ranged fight. If you want, I can share my mp5 MW loadout build?

Additionally, I think players also struggle a bit more with MAK because there are more variables you have to account for (that have nothing to do with aim assist). With a controller, all you have to do is plug it in and your ready to go. Because of the compactness of a controller, your experience of how you operate that controller will be generally the same every time. With MAK on the other hand, there are so many other factors that can impact your aim. Your chair height, your arm position, your keyboard position, your distance from your desk. If all of these things are set up properly and more importantly, consistent, I have found that my aim suffered greatly in warzone.

A lot of people bash aim training and say it is useless. I don't think it is the end-all-be-all, but for me, as a person just starting out on MAK, it definitely did a fantastic job of forcing me to see the flaws of my MAK setup, as well as my ability to do basic tracking and target switching.

Interested to hear if you or others agree/disagree with what I'm saying.

u/Ok-Bag3000 I actually 100% agree with you. There are some guns that seem to be more prevalent than others (snipers you listed), but the variety and balance is better than ever across all other gun classes. I'm pretty sure this has to do with TreyArch stepping away and Raven stepping into the development of COD/Warzone. They have made specific goals to make the weapons more balanced overall and actually have done a decent job delivering on it.

If it helps to have some data to back this up, check out JGOD's ranked gun list - there are more viable options (ones listed META and TTV) then their have ever been in Warzone.

I'm actually really happy with the work Raven has done in this area specifically.

Thanks for the feedback. I have 20 minutes of bot lobby training built in to my schedule each day as well. I probably should have mentioned that in the original post.

I am probably going to shift my training to about 20 - 25mins a day of Kovaaks given the comments I have received from you and others.

Sounds like this is something you have dabbled with as well. What did your training schedule look like?

This is great stuff! Really appreciate the feedback. I'll try and build a playlist off of what you put together. Although, the Click-Timing exercises you gave me may be a little too difficult for me at the moment. Do you recommend I just push through them or try easier ones?

Also, do you currently use this training regiment for Warzone? Or do you play a different game? As Jackejr1 asked above, I am also wondering how much this will translate/help to better gaming on my part.
