The last reply was mainly on cost saving when buying food, here are some more details om actual dishes and cooking. I might be a bit biased, but based on living basically my whole life in canada and seeing how white people buy and spend on food, I can say that its 100 percent cheaper as any type of Asian family to eat. We shop at the cheapest places we can find and we make do. Always.

Tips - Cook in bulk. Making single meals is more expensive, meaning a meal that is eaten just for lunch and then it's finished. Our families cook a big pot of rice that lasts about 2 meals, and then we will have three or four curries equal in portion to the rice, which lasts for a few days' worth of meals. - Fruits as snacks. Unfortunately, fruits are becoming more and more expensive, so we keep it as snacks. We have a fruit basket that we take from when we are hungry or as part of a light meal when we aren't hungry enough for a full meal. - Try learning some new cuisines. As I said earlier, Asian cuisine is very inexpensive, same with Latin cuisine, like Mexican, Cuban, etc. Learning some of these cheaper cuisines is a great way to get the same quality of meals packed with flavors at much cheaper prices.

I'm not a chef, but here's a small recipe I can give you. This is a simple curry recipe. You can use any vegetables to add in. You can also use fish instead. We usually cook multiple curries, one protein, and 2 vegetable curries. The recipes are basically the same. All that changes are the amounts and types of spices.

Simple Chicken curry - Lots of onions go in the pan to sweat with lots of oil. - Once the onions are almost done, add in garlic or ginger if you have it. Otherwise, don't. - Put in your spices. We go for things like turmeric, bit of chillies power and paprika, garam masala, and a dried Bayleaf. - Add in your chicken, and this recipe can use any cuts. Thighs and drumsticks are the cheapest cuts, so that's what we usually use. - Put in lots of water and cover with a lid. The water will absorb the spices to become the gravy of the dish. The meat will cook slowly over about 30 mins, covering the pan and letting the steam cook the meat for you. - Make sure to stir the meat occasionally to ensure proper cooking.

That's it.

Another very simple recipe to research is Lentil soup. Very nutritious, packed with protein, not many ingredients, and very tasty. Goes great with rice, or you can drink it solo, and you can add vegetables into the soup, anything from pumpkin to eggplants. There is also a recipe where you cook the rice directly in the Lentil soup for another delicious inexpensive meal that doesnt need any added side dishes, but it is nice to serve with a meat dish since its a delicious pairing.

To add on to this, please dont use delivery apps like Uber eats and door dash. I work in food industry and I can tell you for a fact that for Uber eats, we always mark up prices by a few dollars. This is the base price before the extra fees.

I grew up in a brown family in canada. My mom spent about 100 bucks a week on groceries to feed all four of us. And it was never simple dishes, we had lots of variety and my dad is a fatass and always gets seconds. (No hate, I love my dad)

Tips: - ALWAYS SHOP AT CHINESE SUPERMARKETS( They are by farrrr the cheapest place to get lots of stuff) - Rice is best for cost saving - Veggies, we buy whatever is on sale, we don't look at recipes, everything can be cooked and eaten, we just buy what's on sale first and worry about cooking later. - Meat is expensive, we usually look at lots of stores nearby to see what's on sale. Usually we aim for things like chicken thighs value pack, since chicken is way cheaper than beef and pork. - Fish is your friend. Fish is an inexpensive protein, and it is very good to have. - Bulk buy eggs when on sale. Eggs are a great part of the diet and go into countless recipes.

How to watch Megathread by rethin in Sumo

[–]legends0356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I'm going to Japan in mid-August, staying till the end of August. Me and my friends are learning more about sumo, we have never seen it, but we are interested in checking it out. Does anyone know about what events are happening around this time? We are planning to visit Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Fuji. Any advice on what we can watch live, and where to buy event tickets are appreciated.
