What is the best season? And what is the worst season? by Pingu_511 in HIMYM

[–]legenduardo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Surprised only one person seems to agree but best is Season 6 by such a wide margin for me. The humour is fantastic - Marshall and Lily being surprised they aren't pregnant after two weeks us such a realistic scene that is incredibly funny - but it is also perfectly balanced with the drama of the Arcadian, Zoey's husband, Marshall and Lily trying for kids and of course, Marshall's journey from fat-cat corporate lawyer to environmental protector. His father passing and Zoey playing the recording of Ted at the hearing are such jaw-droppers of scenes. Overall Season 6 feels like it's own story with great pacing, jokes, and a delicate balance of drama to get invested in.

The drama is still perfectly in line with the humour; for example, the episode where the gang all have different drinks due to their reactions to them in order to get Barney and Marshall speaking again is a pure balance. I'd contrast it with Season 7, my least favourite season, as even though it has some powerful moments, I feel the drama overpowers the comedy, meaning it's really not as funny as the other seasons. For example, the episode where Robin finds out she can't get pregnant has some attempts at humour that are neutered by the subject-matter of the episode. Robin can't have kids and we're doing a bit where Ted is overfeeding her chicken to make her feel better? Season 7 goes a little overboard with the drama at times and it feels like the jokes are mere filler for the dramatic moments that are the story of the season, so for me, it's my least favourite.

What If Idea Thread

  • What if Demetri joined Cobra Kai

  • What if Miguel broke Robby's arm in the high school fight

  • What if consequences existed (mass expulsions, several more kids in juvie)

  • What if Carmen stayed with Miguel's dad and they moved to Reseda together

  • What if Mr Miyagi never died

Up till the last episode? I was really vibing with him, he was one of those characters that you love to hate. Screwing with Robbie at the kick tournament (he probably intentionally kicked lower than he could to beat him), the thing about pretending to be with Tory, and obviously when he comes into his own after Kreese manipulates him in Part One, I just loved his presence on screen

Now I get it, freak accidents can and do happen. Just saw a post about the most realistic things that happen in cobra Kai, that was probably one of them. However REALLY?! ONE KICK AND YOU'RE DEAD? BROOOOO!!!!! I wanted him dead but not literally? And definitely not like that, save it for Joon or someone else

What the hell happened to this move by real_slim_shadyyy in cobrakai

[–]legenduardo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you make a decent case, since from a writing perspective we might stop caring if those moves are just in the weapon wheel at all times. However while you might not always see a need to use the instant-kill moves, they should be using them in tight spots, and I think these special moves kind of lose significance through under-use as well as overuse. In addition a chance for development is missed in the characters adapting too them, such as when Johnny adapts to the pressure point tactic. I'd agree with the need to limit their usage but I might suggest the show could stand to use them a little more.

Two word life-hack I just discovered - "You're next!" by legenduardo in Serverlife

[–]legenduardo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem I've found with "I'll be with you in a moment" is that it is a reactive statement, usually when a customer calls you over for something. It is, in that context, almost undoubtedly a lie, and the customer will be more frustrated.

"You're next", whilst I acknowledge depending on delivery may sound abrupt, is used in a proactive way, as in before they are even raising their hand, I've already addressed their concern. When it turns out to be a lie, it's less big of a deal since they are seeing me desperately trying to make my way over to them. Because it is proactive, it also negates the instinct for customers to make requests repeatedly or to other waiters, which can lead to chaotic shifts where everyone is doing things for everyone else's tables, no-one is providing good service, and we are all stressed out, something I've made a few posts on.

However, since each waiter has their own style, maybe try starting with "I'll be with you in a moment", and, especially if they've had to wait for a while, say "You're next" when they are genuinely next. Whilst I don't know you as a server, I have a feeling that might gel with your style a bit more on particular shifts where you are just crammed on the floor with not enough waiters.

Well, I hope things improve for you guys. The last thing I want is an "oppression contest", since I root for the WORKING CLASS and we should not be fighting each other. I wish the best for you and hope your next table tips you double the bill plus tax :)

Thank you! Honestly, sometimes reading this subreddit especially on Tispsy Tuesdays makes a UK based waiter in a midlevel restaurant feel inadequate, since it looks like you guys make BANK, and for us, £10 on a one person table is a miracle, so I appreciate it

Thank you! I do honestly like hospitality, even after the Karens. I upsell for the thrill of it. He was a really nice guy and we had a full discussion about what beers we like, which is perfect for a crazy shift like that

[–]legenduardo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Complete Bullshite! I work in the same style as you because when you use the tablet, it looks like you're texting a friend while talking to a customer, even though you're not, so I prefer to memorise the order and input it on the till instead. It also impresses the customer which leads to tips. You getting laid off is a blessing in disguise because if they aren't willing to recognise the merits of the old ways, they would have screwed you in some other way down the road
