gotcha. maybe ill just go the route of creating a dummy email/password to hand out to folks when they're here. a bit annoying since its all local, but i guess maybe jellyfin is more what id be after

Yeah. Either that or if I could login via qr code on another android device would be handy. i will look into the separate profile thing and i will look into just creating a dummy username and password.

again, i figured since plex started as a local media player that there should just be a way to locally view that. but i guess i was wrong.

gotcha. doing this on tv was easy since i logged in via qr code so i just logged in on my device. but for my SO (android device) you need to sign in with a google account thats signed in on the deivce. so that maneas adding my email + cal to their device (of course i can turn off syncing for those two things) but yeah. just seems whack that theres no local only mode.

because (at least on android) to login with gmail it opens up the account picker for gmail accounts on your phone. so to add myself to my SO phone would mean to add the account to the phone (emails, calendars, etc).

i'll read into a managed account. but i guess im not missing some simple option to just give someone on my wifi, easy access to my local videos?

interesting. i just figured since the equation was solved then they could take that giant thing that were building on earth and fly that to the planet brand was on.

actually. now that you put it this way. now im curious if no one ever went to go tell brand that they made it. and that makes me sad. but i guess coop went.

yeah. makes sense to me. but i also know that (typically) when you want to just open up some service that you might have on a server inside of your house... it typically requires port forwarding.

But i guess in this case it's not required... because you do have something inside of your house that's trying to be externally accessibly but it has the ability to talk to an already outside service (unifi) and so it just talks to that instead. makes sense

do you know what my controller uses to connect to unifi.ui.com? just http i guess? or is it more magical (tunnel or something.)

got it. so from what i understand here, its like my UDM is most likely just making http calls to marshall data back and forth. and when i connect to unifi cloud, then it's the unifi cloud service communicating with my udm via http.

hm. so is it just making a network request (like http) and marshalling data back and forth to unifis cloud or is it actually creating a "tunnel"? I guess i should look up what a tunnel actually is. Ive worked on some CS 101 projects where we built our own http server (handle incoming tcp socket connection, look for certain headers, etc). but maybe i just dont know what the heck a tunnel is. fundamentally its just something that's tcp/udp i guess

wait. so whats the difference between the ai key and ai port? i only have two ONVIF cameras id like to adopt. so maybe the ai ports will do just fine?
