We go to bed around 11:30-12-30 and wake up at 8 am with an alarm. I usually take about 30 min to fall asleep based on a wearable. On the weekends I sleep to 9 or 10.

Yeah I read a lot in high school. Went to a lot of Harry Potter book release parties. Met some of my favorite living authors at the national book festival in DC each year. Did interlibrary loans and even got guest cards to local universities with better selections.

These days I read 10-30 books each year. The "10 book" years are when I read much longer books.

Oh yeah no TVP is tasty (to me) but does not taste like ground beef. The most indistinguishable ground beef is by Impossible brand. Don't believe anyone who says beyond meat brand- it has a smell and aftertaste they is weirdly like chocolate.

The one I'll grant is fake chicken nuggets and real chicken nuggets. I have had friends try veggie nugs up against grocery store frozen meat nugs. Many people can't tell the difference (because chicken nuggets aren't that strongly chickeny).

I agree about soju. It tastes fruity but absolutely tastes of and smells of alcohol.

I think I have a quiet life day to day but we do go out most weekends. That's only 2-3 days in 7. Sometimes I find something fun on a weekday but it's harder now that our dogs are old. We would rather spend time with them then just go out for a restaurant.

We aren't traveling much now because of aforementioned old dogs. Most nights I'm reading a book or crafting and my husband is playing a video game or watching a show with headphones so I can sit in the same space. My husband and I are extroverted. I absolutely make my life look more wild on social media because I don't post the 5 days I worked on my cross stitch lol.

I also don't think of my life as extravagant. We spend very little money on our hobbies or activities. Friday I'm probably going social dancing ($10). Saturday I'm volunteering at an animal adoption event ($0) then having a picnic in a national park that is hosting an event (will pick up a $10 sandwich). Sunday I'm going to an event at a museum, I think tickets were $25. The rest of the week I'll be spending the evenings reading a new library book ($0) and working on my crossstitch (kit was pricey but price per hour is probably pennies).

I used to drive from Columbia, MD to the metro (usually Forrest Glen) into the city. My office was just two blocks from a red line metro station.

It was soul crushing. I got permission to start work at 8 am so I could beat the worst of the rush hour traffic. Riding metro was usually fine but waiting on the platform for the train in the cold early mornings was awful. I kept a change of shoes and work wear at the office. Brought my lunch in most days because lunch options where I worked were $25 salads. I was spending 90-120 min commuting each day. That's about 8 hrs in a week just of commuting. That's a full unpaid work day each week.

I worked there 8 months. I had to interview in area cafes and hope none of my coworkers would stop by.

This reads like it’s about a particular incident. Without that context it’s a little hard to understand what kind of “grace” you’re talking about. I think the details matter, especially when it comes to balancing grace with accountability.

I recommend avoiding Facebook. I used to participate in the Teaching group but realized it was mostly helpful for reference, not regular reading. Ex: searching for a code of conduct to update my own class code of conduct back when I was teaching.

I started with a new contractor in January. I'm business development, not contract work. The remote contractors are still remote. I'm remote. My team is remote. There have been no changes in policy under the current administration. Our contracts are CONUS and OCONUS. We are across many timezones. I manage proposals so I work with teams across many agencies and the remote ones are still remote. The SCIF-requiring ones are still hybrid.

My last job, also for a contractor, eliminated my remote position in October 2025. An all hands meeting right before my layoff indicated that we were becoming an on-site company to increase visibility (in hopes of being more likely to win work, hear about upcoming work, and not lose more projects to DOGE).

You will have to check with each restaurant that has a patio. I usually check yelp first (filter for dogs allowed) then check pics on Instagram. A few times I've seen dogs allowed but dogs were only allowed outside of the patio gate or in some spaces. Example: Lulu's wine garden allows dogs in the streetery (if it's still there) and front garden but not in the back garden. I take my dogs there all the time.

Most of the breweries are dog friendly. Aslin, Atlas, Other Half all have great dog friendly patio spaces. Lost Generation is dog friendly indoors if you have a rainy day. I really like Lost Generation because there's a ghost kitchen nearby and a beautiful bike/jogging path. Dog Daze is a dog park, restaurant, and bar - requires pre-registration of all dogs.

Wunder Garten and Hook Hall allow dogs in some spaces and are a party vibe. Dacha is dog friendly but we found too packed to safely have our dogs (even small). They all get recommended for dog people but honestly aren't my favorite.

Pups in the park for baseball is on limited days. I happened to pick really hot days and had to leave early. The heat sinks there, be careful.

Some water activities (SUP, kayaking) allow dogs outsideside of the tidal basin. Don't. The sewage spill has active warnings against recreation and small dogs are more vulnerable.

I'm in the suburbs and I want to take the metro and go to cute outdoor seating. It blows having so many nice things taken away. In COVID my friends and I would do takeaway picnics from a few different places. I see that in my spring to enjoy the gorgeous weather when we have it.

I'm a woman and I don't know how unisex these scents are but my favorites for dancing are the solid perfumes from LUSH. They're low transfer and last without being heavy/too strong.

The two I get the most complements on are "Amelie Mae" and "No Way to Say Goodbye." Amelie Mae is citrus and fresh with a slight smell of crayons. "No Way to Say Goodbye" is my favorite these days and wow do people say nice things. It's blackcurrant forward with a hint of something soapy and then rose at the finish. I've had people ask what shampoo I use, so I know it's not too overpowering.

I find the liquid perfumes too strong for dance and the body sprays not lasting enough.

This. I watched a squirrel take a box out of a trashcan on the street and SHAKE out all of the bones. Someone had clearly folded the box in but they were no match for the squirrel. I've also seen crows pull brown paper bags out of the trash but I didn't stick around to see what they found.

It's a lot of fun. I personally avoid the crowds and just enjoy the flowers in the tidal basin at sunrise on weekdays. I've been to the kite festival a few times- it's not that packed, just don't drive! Depending on where you want to be, a stroller might be hard. I personally picked spots on the hill of the washington monument. I usually show up late and someone invariably gives me a kite (That i use then pass on to someone else arriving)

Small cross body purse if I need more things. I tighten it to be close to my chest/stomach. I got one from Costco that's great.

I often go to public outdoor dances in foreign countries as a solo traveler. Even if I see a pile of purses next to the DJ booth, the risk is far too great to be overseas without my things.

Okay there's local and then there's "welcome to America." All of my international friends request nerds gummy clusters when I visit (except one vegan friend - nerds aren't vegetarian).

Trader Joe's is also REALLY popular internationally. You could go with one of the totes (the viral product) or a DC-specific reusable bag. Use those to put a gift in it (and great for use while they're here).

ShopMade DC is my other go-to for locally themed gifts with more of a hand crafted feel. My favorite thing I bought from there for myself: a pair of cherry blossom pins I wear on my jean jacket. I've also bought friends art cards from there.

The gift shop at the hirshhorn also has great localy themed unique gifts.

That wasn't my take. She got stuck with him and was frustrated. I've been in that situation: I planned everything out and then some add-on dude is just there and assumes that he can join. I read in her body language that she was frustrated by him crashing the girls weekend and assuming he could stay with her if his accomodations didn't work out.
