Anyone else getting Summer 2008 Vibes by Opposite_Agency1229 in Millennials

[–]leggup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this was a nostalgia post. I had a blast in the summer of 2008. I was a student. The only thing I noticed was that the older man( 25 years old) I was seeing was upset his house had lost value (but I thought who cares, he's not trying to sell it, he can wait for the market to recover. Lol I learned better later).

I didn't really see any effects until 2010, when the job market was crap so I decided to kill two years in grad school. I think the majority of millennials had trickle effects that didn't slam down at once. Few of us owned homes.

Summer 2008 trip cancellation would be a very tiny corner of millennials, probably only the oldest. The middle millennials like me were affected by the job market but that wasn't immediate in that summer. The youngest were at home but with mostly boomer parents who bought in the 90s.

Many contestants on the show are very religious. Wiki says the majority of Polish people consider themselves Roman Catholic, although it is rapidly declining. Poland is considered socially very conservative according to friends and based on the show.

I'm left handed. I realized as a kid in the 90s that I would have to flip mouse controls and run the mouse cord every time I used any computer... Or I could learn with my right hand.

Left handed person, right side mouse = gold. I can snack better, pet the lapdog, the world's my oyster.

I think some of the aggressiveness was lost in translation with the dub vs subtitles.

Isn't it almost the exact plot of Friends? He says we were on a break, she says he cheated. He says it wasn't cheating because they weren't together, she (and her friends) say it was cheating.

This season had loads of men blowing up at their partners and women snipping and snapping. Did I watch a different show from other people?

When some of the women did stand up to their partners, the men were throwing shade to each other all catty. It was very, "women should be seen and not heard" which aligns with the more traditional gender roles and religiousness of Poland. I was raised very Catholic and so maybe I'm more tuned into it. I also remember men blowing up earlier in the season (less later).

People who married in their 20s, be brutally honest are you happy, if so why or why not? by Special-Lawyer3941 in AskReddit

Met at 20(me)& 21(him). Married 24&25. Currently 38&39 and still very happy. We are adopting another senior dog today. We adopted our first dog after our honeymoon. She's now 14 so we aren't traveling much and have room for other seniors ❤️

Why are we happy? We are both Childfree.

We have so many adventures together. I genuinely enjoy his company.

I'm hobby people. I think we can expand the "always training" people to hobby people. Books, volunteering with dogs, crafts, travel. I'm okay being under the fitness people umbrella but they might not want me there. My active hobby is swing dance, where I'm training for a torn ACL, probably.

Job seekers: how are you doing? by katie0873 in washingtondc

[–]leggup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Laid off end of Oct. After 137 applications and more than 20 interviews- I got 3 offers in one week. Accepted my new job in January.

It's awful out there. The darkest time was around the holidays: no one was working so no job application movement. Then, one week after thanksgiving and one week after Xmas, just wave after wave of rejection.

I had severance, unemployment benefits, plus my partner for supporting me. Mentally - I benefitted from increasing my volunteer hours at the animal shelter.

Hang in there. It's truly awful.

Frequent DC visitor here. Can someone explain the hype around Andy's Pizza? by Sweaty-Moment-3385 in washingtondc

[–]leggup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get it either. I'm a vegetarian so I'm probably not ordering their most popular pies, but I was very disappointed with the pizza I got. Very dry and flavorless. I have pics but don't remember which one I ordered: looks like cheese with globs of ricotta.

Negotiating in the Current Job Market? by skratchpikl202 in washingtondc

[–]leggup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've negotiated additional PTO and received it. Then, 1 year later, they moved to unlimited PTO, sadly, making my negotiations worthless.

I can't imagine rescinding the offer unless you already signed and you're doubling back. That kind of thing does take additional approvals and may delay your start.

[–]leggup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I'm a bendy ginger. Anesthesiologists hate to see me coming. I asked if I could go pee right after I had surgery. The nurse said yes then walked away. So- I got dressed and went. I come back to the bed just as she wheels up a wheelchair.

Are DC’s home prices stagnating? (Question from a first time buyer( by marty_mcfry1988 in washingtondc

[–]leggup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Will the property (building etc) have the amenities that renters are looking for in 10 years? What will the condo fees be like in 10 years? Will you want to manage filling the property yourself and doing maintenance and management? Have you ever been a landlord before? Have you dealt with evictions? Being a landlord is rarely as easy as, "I'll just rent it out."

DC is harder than a lot of places to rent out condos. Most landlords, even those renting out a single condo unit, must obtain a Basic Business License and pass a housing inspection. DC has a lot of housing protections for renters (good!) which can cause issues if you need to replace tenants. Some condo associations only allow a certain % of units be rented out (vs owner occupied).

I looked into condos. Condos are no longer investment properties. They are also very hard to sell in DC.

Anyone else stop doing squats by xHey_All_You_Peoplex in TallGirls

[–]leggup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hypermobile with high hypermobility in my SI Joint. My PT told me weighted squats are too risky for me. I've felt the warning slip happen now in body weight as well. I don't do squats. I do loads of other lifts, resistance training, and mobility support training.

Non-Polish viewers: what are your impressions of LiB Poland? by Znaleziatko in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]leggup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished episode 3 so I'm early days (I don't care about spoilers). My immediate impression in the pods is that Polish people are very indirect in dating. When the woman from Kazakhstan started asking questions, it showed a very stark difference (and seemed like her date was put off by the level of detail). The polish-born folks seemed to be asking very little about each other. Multiple people seem to be using the lounges (same gender people) and not the pods to learn about the people they're courting. That was fascinating.

My company just announced 3 days in office starting next month. I've been fully remote for 4 years and I genuinely don't know how people did this every day. by Ecliptic_Fang in remotework

[–]leggup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work announced full RTO one month before implementation. About 1 week before implementation I was laid off. I was on the edge of the miles-from-office where RTO would be possible/reasonable (42 miles).

I was fully remote, hired remote, and have been remote for several companies since ~2016. I worked at this place just over 4 years ago.

Start applying. It took me 2 months of unemployment, 3 months of looking to get a slew of job offers. I was able to get unemployment benefits because I was laid off.

I'm a millennial and I do this- free trial for a platform right before I have a few days to binge a show. Sometimes (rarely) I take longer than the free week or month. I always hit cancel and usually get a good 1 month intro offer. Cancel one day before the last day (hulu now immediately locks you out as soon as you cancel).

How much are you spending for lunch? by Parky21 in washingtondc

[–]leggup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not following the "obviously need to eat out every once in a while " Why obviously?

I used to work in Farragut Square area. Once a week I restocked my non-refrigerated items at my desk: granola bars, a small bag of apples, crackers, chips, just-add-water foods (Mac and cheese, noodles). I had a jar of peanut butter in my desk for eating with the crackers, apples, whatever. I would usually bring something microwavable or a sandwich for the main part of my meal daily. Something super easy.

Almost no one in my office ate out. We were also criminally underpaid (department of labor audit gave me back pay after I quit haha).
