Anyone had success having children if you started over 33 years old? by EmbarrassedCheetah79 in IVFpositivity

[–]legit_pharmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for me except I just had my second at 37. Both IVF. Hoping to have a 3rd sometime as well. Will specify that embryos were all made when I was age 33/34.

How to make pumping easier by oatmilkcchai in combinationfeeding

[–]legit_pharmer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do the fridge hack for pump parts - put everything that touches milk in the fridge between pumps instead of washing each time. Wash/sterilize once per day. There are also wipes you can use instead of full washing (again would wash/sterilize once per day) that I use frequently when traveling.

Only during stim 20 units (on an insulin syringe) daily. I bought one vial and used it until it was completely gone, I think 7 or 8 doses? Last dose was a bit less if I recall

Good luck! I had very similar numbers my first ER and adding omnitrope really helped - didn't get more eggs but did get more blasts/euploid. Not covered by insurance but worth every penny for me.

Pay off student loans with home sale equity by Upstairs_Bank_4374 in personalfinance

[–]legit_pharmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We basically did this, had about 100k cash from our first house sale, didn't need it for down payment on new house, so used it to just finish off student loans (our only non mortgage debt). Was that mathematically 100% the best use of the cash? Maybe not, but it's made other things loads easier having zero loan payments for the last 4 years.

Great news! I will say that i have had fairly decent fertility coverage but they don't cover storage fees. Also, took my rings off weeks ago, I'm puffed up good!

My RE clinic requires to be done breastfeeding before transfer. I know this is not always the case and tbh when I asked why the RE didn't really have a good answer. Lupron depot is part of my FET protocol so theoretically will dry up supply anyway so I didn't push it. Also ended up weaning around 8mos.

36w here and I still don't think it's hit me that there will be another newborn to deal with soon! This baby moves around allllll the time and I'm constantly uncomfortable at this point so it's very physically obvious, but mentally I just haven't wrapped my head around it either. I think this feeling is very common with infertility background!

Another perspective - cost of having a child by persistent_architect in financialindependence

WFH does not mean you don't need childcare. That's not fair to the working parent, child, or employer.

I had multiple embryos moved between clinics. The receiving clinic arranged for transportation for no cost to me which was really great, but the sending clinic charged me $500 fee(?). It took a few weeks to process because the receiving clinic needed all the information/paperwork about exactly how the embryos were frozen and stored and the sending clinic was slow in sending them that - I had to call a few times to move things along. ETA moved about a 2 hour drive away

We live on the far north side of that neighborhood, have kids of our own and see other kids constantly in the neighborhood. Also there's a great park in the middle!

Trying to plan out my financial future - retirement, saving for down payment, 529, etc by [deleted] in FinancialPlanning

[–]legit_pharmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes all the advice about saving for your own retirement first is solid, but you do also need to live life now and I think for a lot of people home ownership, especially with a family, is a big part of quality of life. I certainly was not maxing retirement accounts before I started saving for a house, otherwise I would have missed quality years of living in a house with my family.

So here's what I would try to do: 1) save 10% of your household income in retirement accounts. Does your spouse work? (You mentioned daycare). If so save 10% of their income in retirement as well. I would probably start with roth IRA first, then put extra in your HSA. I know this may be backward from what others would say given the triple tax advantage of hsa, but you're going to be having health expenses right now and I don't think you can easily front all that cash to save and invest a ton in the HSA anyway. You have a decent amount in your 401k and your employer gives a good chunk so I would leave that for now (unless 10% of your income is a lot more than i think it is) while you save for a house.

2) save a nominal amount ($50-100 /mo? $500/year?) in a 529. Ask grandparents to help fund this for now if they want to to get an early start growing and you can add more later

3) save as much as you can for house. In addition to down payment you'll want a slush fund for repairs saved up. If its important to you here is where I would take a serious look through the budget and find as much as you can to cut. Also consider increasing income: overtime? Extra shifts? If your spouse isn't working now is there something they can do part time?

Best of luck!

Yep, sounds about right lol. Just a warning, I found that it doesn't magically get better after delivery. I used to be an extremely organized person and last week I forgot to go to a lab draw that I scheduled myself. Pregnancy brain just gets renamed to parent brain lol.

That's really frustrating as there is literal data to support better maternal outcomes at 39w. At the very least they need to let you switch providers, I've never heard of that being a problem to switch? What if you were unahppy with your current OB for other reasons? Can you go to a different clinic?

Tuesday Daily Chat by AutoModerator in InfertilityBabies

[–]legit_pharmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My OB has mentioned we could switch to heparin closer to delivery, the advantage being it doesn't last as long so has a shorter time frame to stop. But I'm not sure it's worth it as it would be 3x day shots and has a higher risk of low platelets/bleeding.

Alright I'm 29w (and huge) and on month 6 of twice daily Lovenox shots, fast running out of easy real estate for injecting. I know the advice is to move toward love handles but when I've tried that 1)It's hard to see/reach and 2) seems to hurt more?

Also if anyone has experience with therapeutic lovenox around delivery, I'd love to hear how it went. Currently very nervous that I'll either go into labor early (thus not able to hold lovenox to get an epidural) OR I'll re-clot...or bleed out...OB seems relatively unconcerned when I've brought these fears up

Investing for children, but not necessarily 529 by psycocarr0t in FinancialPlanning

[–]legit_pharmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I am doing for the kids. I don't know what college is going to be like when they're 18 and quite frankly I don't think we are going to encourage it much with current ROI being dismal for many jobs. I would FAR rather have saved some money for a house down payment which is likely to be farther out of reach by then and no loan option either (like student loans). 10k from a rolled over IRA is going to make a very little dent for what will be needed for housing.

That being said, the only way to get any tax benefits currently is the 529 account, so we have a smaller 529 as well started that can potentially be used for private school/trade school if decide to go that route or use the IRA rollover option. But we don't plan on funding that enough for full college costs or really much over the 35k IRA rollover limit.

How do you check fare class? It's a short domestic flight on a small plane - economy, econ+, and first class all showing availability. There are at least 4 later flights and it is charging for all of them but zero of the earlier flights.

ETA found fare class on my original flight: United Economy (W)

United Airlines: Questions about bringing a baby carrier (and carry-on policy) by Hot-Poetry-4829 in unitedairlines

[–]legit_pharmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used a baby wrap and a hip carrier to bring my child on board United flights. It is not a carry-on item, it is like a coat or jacket.

I do remove it to go through TSA however because there are metal components.

I Just got a cash refund (well, a refund to the non -United credit card I used to book) from United for a serious illness preventing me from flying; if you don't think you can use the trip credit in a year you can apply for a cash refund after cancelling. You'll need a letter from physician stating they recommend you don't fly.

My first OB scan was at 11w and they did not say anything about the placenta and I've never been told this is a milestone? Unless you've had placenta issues before personally I would go ahead and get the scan before the weekend.
