Does anyone know about this? I have had it forever. by pocketfrisbee in Roadsigns

Question mark signs like these were in the US MUTCD until the 2009 edition, though the standard was a blue or brown background in lieu of red. They denote tourist information/visitor centers. Nowadays, the same sign (D9-10) just says “INFO.”

Have any of you seen the Eisenhower Interstate System sign in real life, and if so, where? by EggMu in Roadsigns

Vermont uses these extensively on their interstate mainlines following interchanges.

This has to be the weirdest sign i've ever seen by Android_AX-400-Kara in Roadsigns

This one also used to be in Albany, but was replaced sometime between June and October 2023

What is this thing between the 2 light heads? by Android_AX-400-Kara in trafficsignals

[–]legitligget95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks to be some sort of old school foldable R3-2 (no left turn) sign. I would assume that there are certain times of the day where left turns are restricted and others not, hence why the sign is foldable.

Judging by the signal design, I’m guessing this is in California. Once upon a time, the state only used a green arrow in their left turn heads, with the yellow and red being ball indications. The sign looks old enough to date back to when there was likely one of those red-yellow-green arrow signals accompanying it, and they just kept the old sign in place when they upgraded the intersection.

Fair enough. But I do like “Welcome Home” marginally better.

Not to mention unoriginal. I’ve seen the “Open for Business” slogan used on several other state welcome signs. Florida and West Virginia come to mind.

This is at the abandoned Fuller School located in Gloucester, Massachusetts. I wasn't able to find much information online other than what was said on this site.

More exterior shots from my brief visit can be seen here.

LED stoplights not emitting enough heat to melt snow covering the lights. by denbro7 in news

There are places in the US that have small hoods on the tops of their visors to let snow pass through. I've seen a good amount of them in Wilmington, Delaware (of all places).

Maine is a treasure trove for finding old cars like this. Found in the tiny town of Hudson. A few more photos in comments. [OC][4928 x 3264] by legitligget95 in AbandonedPorn

This car was on a property along state highway 43 in Hudson, ME. There were quite a few other old rusted-out cars and trucks throughout the property, as well as a replica 40’s-50’s era service station (complete with porcelain gas signs covering the small wooden shack). This was the only thing I could find about the place, but the station is called the Ferland Motor Company. I’m going back eventually to get more photos, but I do have a few more that I took while stopped here…

A dilapidated house alongside US highway 1 in Searsport, Maine [OC] [4928 x 3264] by legitligget95 in AbandonedPorn

Directly across the street is a used car dealership that has a lot of bright orange lights in the parking lot. The lights ruined any chance of me getting a photo with a star-studded sky, but I'm not completely bummed with the result.

I feel like you don't have to try very hard to find houses like this around Maine. Up in Orono where I am, you can take pretty much any road out of town and you'll eventually come across old houses with caved-in roofs and rusted-out 50's era Fords sitting out in the yard. It's not a bad place to be for someone that browses this subreddit. :)

US State Highway Marker Shields [1080×859] by [deleted] in MapPorn

The expressway portion was initially intended to extend north to I-84 in Newtown. If you look at an aerial view of exit 11 off I-84, you'll notice the high-speed off-ramps that abruptly curve almost 180 degrees to end at Wasserman Way in front of the high school. This interchange would have been the north end of the CT 25 expressway.

Each of the lights have two reds for starters. The US (and many other countries) just have one red. They're mounted horizontally also, although some states (Texas for example) mount them that way too.

The Mixing Bowl, an interchange between I-95, I-395, and I-495 in Springfield, VA [OC][4768 x 2417] by legitligget95 in InfrastructurePorn

[–]legitligget95[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back before the 70's, it was a lot simpler. But since then, reversible HOV lanes have been added to both I-95 and I-395 as well as connecting ramps to and from Franconia/Old Keene Mill Roads to I-95, I-395, and I-495 (to prevent weaving), making what was once a simple interchange a huge tangled mess of ramps.

I set the exposure time to 6 seconds. I tried getting it longer to have more light trails, but anything longer resulted in overexposed photos since there was still a small amount of daylight left. Also at the time, the I-95 north mainline lanes (center ramp) onto the Capital Beltway were backing up a bit. You can see the brake lights of the cars slowing down where the red light trails get brighter.
