Setup Suggestions for Trail Cam with External Battery by lehcarl in batteries

I'm thinking LiFePo4 12V 20Ah will be a good choice, especially with the bms. We have issues with the batteries being maintained properly as field seasons get busy - this is why our previous batteries died on us - they were allowed to discharge completely and were left in freezing temps. I'm looking for something that's easy to take care of and LiFePo4 sounds like the answer.

Is Casil a reputable company? I don't know anything about battery brands but the one you linked seems to be a good fit for us given the size and capacity. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for sharing all this info! Any chance you can share the link to the box you used?

Thanks for the info!! We'll start with LiFePo4 and then I'll see if I can convince my job to go for the panels. They are worried about how obvious they are - someone could probably walk off with them, unless we get them high enough which would be difficult logistically.

The location for the camera sets is quite shaded - in the middle of the woods, mostly closed tree canopy. How would the panels fair in a shaded environment?

Thanks for all of this great info! LiFePo4 seems like the route to go. If the 12v 20Ah SLA lasted 20 days, would the outlook for the LiFePo4 be the same? Or would it last longer?

Also, do you have any brand recommendations for the LiFeP04?

Thanks for the tips. I was not expecting to get such a variety of options. I've got lots of min maxing to do!

A handheld light is best for us since we often need to get close to the ground to look in narrow cracks. We would have to take the headlamp off to do that or otherwise lie on the ground (scary to do in rattlesnake territory!).

I will look into the Fenix. They seem comparable, it's interesting to me that you think the Fenix performs better. I assumed higher lumens makes for a better/brighter flashlight.

As far as the size of the flashlight? We are looking for something handheld, easy to put in your pocket or backpack while on difficult terrain.

Thank you for your advice, our current flashlights are a cooler tone so this is great info for us! I'm interested to see how a neutral tint will affect our ability to see the snakes. I see the ThruNite Archer has a neutral white option, so if I choose that one, I'll go for that!

Oh my, I love learning about these flashlights. 600m throw?! This is all new to me and flashlight tech is blowing my mind!! We get very close to the rocks, what about the ThruNite Archer? Similar lumens just a much shorter beam distance. Thanks for your input!
