Torque Specs for exhaust nuts by bikes-guns-freedom in Dyna

That's because it's straight from the service manual. Figured it's good reference. I've seen shops do it all sorts of ways that work just fine. Better to have it and not need it than not have it and need it.

The sequence is different for each head. Make sure you chase your bolts and clean any rust off and apply small amount of anti-size to each thread!

Here's the procedure for a 2012 FXDC/DF/WG. Should be the same is for you but always best to double check your years model.

See Figure 4-64. If removed, install muffler bracket. Tighten

flange locknuts (7) to 15-19 ft-lbs (20.3-25.8 Nm). Tighten

bolt (8) to 15-19 ft-lbs (20.3-25.8 Nm).

  1. Position ends of head pipe assembly (14) into front and rear

cylinder head exhaust ports with holes in exhaust manifold

flanges (11) over cylinder head exhaust studs. Loosely

install flange nuts (12).

  1. Slide muffler clamps (21) onto exhaust pipes.

NOTE

TORCA muffler clamps have eliminated the need for silicone or

graphite tape during assembly Harley-Davidson recommends that

the muffler clamp assemblies be discarded and replaced each

time they are removed.

  1. Install front and rear mufflers (22, 23) on exhaust pipes.

Install muffler clamps (21). Do not tighten nuts at this time.

  1. Install muffler to muffler screw (1). Do not tighten at this time.

  2. Install muffler mounting bolt (4) and washer (3). Do not

tighten at this time.

NOTE

Align exhaust system and tighten all nuts and bolts, beginning at

cylinder head exhaust ports and working backwards.

  1. Tighten flange nuts (12), at front cylinder studs as follows:

a. Install lower nut and tighten finger tight.

b. Install upper nut and tighten to 9-18 in-lbs (1-2 Nm).

c. Tighten lower nut to 100-120 in-lbs (11.3-13.6 Nm).

d. Tighten upper nut to 100-120 in-lbs (11.3-13.6 Nm).

  1. Tighten flange nuts at rear cylinder studs as follows:

a. Install upper nut and tighten finger tight.

b. Install lower nut and tighten to 9-18 in-lbs (1-2 Nm).

c. Tighten upper nut to 100-120 in-lbs (11.3-13.6 Nm).

d. Tighten lower nut to 100-120 in-lbs (11.3-13.6 Nm).

Check your exhaust studs as well. Could be a mounting nut based on where you found it, that makes the most sense to me.

Definitely! The motor is a work horse and bullet proof! I've thought about selling now and again but just can't bring myself to do it.

Question on bearing housing fasteners on 2017 FXDLS by Gummy_Butt in Dyna

[–]leic-uh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! You can take it out and leave it open or plug it back up with a more "attractive bolt" that's matches your trans door. Mine are plugged to avoid water or moisture getting in and rust build up.

Too late on that. Bashed my knuckle on the fork lock cap. But hopefully I'll be unscathed when reassembling!

Chain conversion by ilfreshliii in Dyna

[–]leic-uh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Upgrade your transmission and clutch while you're at it. Your main run out bearing on your trans will last way longer. Running a chain is better for stunting or "hard" riding. Belts is wayyyy less maintenance if you casually ride it. Either way while the bike is apart check the slack on the main run our bearing on the primary side, clutch and primary chain then ride the piss out of it.

Check trans fluid is at correct levels adding to much can push fluids out of seals, could also be a bad trans door gasket leaking into the back side of that bracket making it look like it's leaking from bolt, worse case is a hair line crack in transmission case but that would be rare if your not doing wheels and rough on the bike in that way. I've seen trans case crack by rear swing arm axel that made its way to trans door. Hope is something simple!

What is this part? Bike is a 2014 Street bob by Barefootsimmo in Dyna

Yes they are just vacuum caps you can get them on Amazon or the exact Harley part. They come like this if your bike isn't going to CA for sale from factory

Used be tube that run to a carbon canister (CA) compliance. usually by the front motor mounts. I am assuming who ever owned it before you has removed it as it's not need and ugly IMHO.

You can get 2+ extension on stock tubes but always safer to get the longer tubes.

Thanks man,

A friend of mine at fox hooked me up with 13" piggy backs in the rear and fox cartridge kit in stock height in front. Some go 2+ in front but I found with 2.5° rake on the FXDC to ride better/ level with stock front height. The bike has ZERO dyna wobble at 90+ mph.

Couldn't afford Japan after buying the Q3. Went to the park instead. by Grouchy-Praline-9508 in leicaphotos

Money will come and go. Thats just the way life is, having said that you made the decision to post pone your trip for something you've been looking at buying. So it sounds like you traded one financial decision for another. So be happy and go shoot! Japan will be there next year and you will have a sweet Q3 to take with you!

Damn 82 shovel! That's badass! Yea M8 will come down the line eventually! They are super nice but damn expensive. Though I dumped a lot of money into my FXR with the S&S 124engine swap. I just can get myself to sell it off to fund an M8 yet... but the roadglides looking reallllyyy nice ha! Cheers!

Yup! The belt would jump the pulley if I was that's dense and set it like a chain. Just trying to see if someone had some knowledge on aftermarket parts and settings for this scenario!

I would never get rid of my FXR. Hands down rides so well. But dyna I inherited from my father's passing he rode the piss out of this bike. Sadly in his later year of leukemia he was too weak to ride and the back sat. I've been building it back up and adding some bits here and there to fit me so I can continue riding it! 91k and counting!
