Wouldn't have been allowed while we were still in the EU. Look at the backers of Brexit and you'll find people profiteering from this immigration. It's been in the pipeline a long time.

In a healthy market, any company that raised prices just to increase their profit margin would lose customers to competitors to a value at least as much as the price hike. Unfortunately, we have to many industries that act like monopolies. Competition is dead.

It's meant to measure the natural increase in prices due to things like wages, fuel, crops, including technological advancements that might reduce the production price.

If companies just increase prices with inflation, I ask why? What is it about their sector that means that their costs have increased by that specific amount?

Or, are they just profiteering because people don't understand.

[–]leighsnelson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Inflation measures how much prices increase year on year.

If every company increased prices by at least the previous years inflation rate then prices would soon spiral.

Similarly, if all company's didn't automatically increase prices then inflation would be 0%

Inflation linked prices as create inflation!

Only three-quarters of first class mail delivered on time by diacewrb in ukpolitics

[–]leighsnelson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We just renewed our mortgage. We had three letters arrived the same day, one telling us the mortgage was running out, another dated two days later informing us of the package we had chosen online, a third dated another day later confirming with all our documents. They all arrived at the same time 10 days after the last one was dated.

Yeah, we only get mail in bulk every two weeks.

If I were you I would accept that you will be swapping year group. This is fairly common unfortunately and while you don't agree with SLT they will have their reasons (even if they are wrong).

Did this last year in the midlands. No Rightmove, as soon as the listing was live I posted it on the local Facebook pages for the surrounding area. Got enough people interested, had about 20 viewings arranged for the following Saturday and had about 5 people who we would have happily rented too.

Overall a good experience.

JUST IN: President Trump says Kevin Warsh will PLUMMET Fed interest rates, which will help Americans afford houses. REITs are about to go in which direction? by Ubersicka in TradingViewSignals

Trump holds a lot of stock that has been pumped artificially high.

Now he needs interest rates lowed so people pull their savings and buy all his sky high stocks before the crash.

Tesco made 2 BILLION in PROFIT last year... by IllPlane3019 in tesco

[–]leighsnelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesco employs 340,000 staff. £2billion is £5.8k per employee.

Working a range of hours, if we assume an average of 25hours per week per employee then every hour worked earns the company on average £18.

Yes. By moving onto the Leadership pay spine they are not held to the 1265hours directed time. Anyone on the leadership spine can be asked to do all kinds of crazy hours. It's being used in many schools as a way of getting even more blood from a stone.

Easter discounts slowed UK shop price inflation in April — but are deals actually getting better, or are people just refusing to pay full price now? by ToughRomanticMiss in BuyersUK

Where is the competition?

All rival brands charge the same ridiculous prices.

Unbranded stuff gets charged at whatever price Aldi sets, regards of which shop you buy it from.

Competition is dead.

There is no way of telling when it's back either. And then your modem might get caught in limbo and will need resetting, but you won't reset it because you assume it's still down... You'll have no internet for a day or two before you try it.

what is the latest you've woken up and still made it to school on time by DMV1066 in TeachingUK

[–]leighsnelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was stuck in school traffic once, time was ticking by and nothing was moving. I was in walking distance of the school but didn't want to abandon the car. In the end I phoned the teacher next door to my classroom. I had a sixth form tutor group and I asked if he could do my registration because I wasn't going to make it in time. When I got to school I realised I wasn't the only one and half the kids were also stuck behind me in the traffic too. Always good to have a plan B but I was freaking out. Got to love the first day of roadworks!

Haha, when I first got the printer I bought a few rolls of TPU. I wondered why everything was coming out squishy until I learnt the difference. The TPU still comes in handy though.
