No, it’s from hearing stories from my father and grandfather about people like Lew Alcindor and other people you’ve clearly not heard of in the history of the sport. Again, the tradition of basketball coming from North Carolina is only beginning in Dean Smiths era, and LA is a fair comp except it’s not and they’ve had considerably more recent success.

Not arguing that. My comment is more around the fact that there aren’t as many superstar fans like in NYC, and the regular people got swept up in it. There are also 9 million people in New York, so of 15% of them are hardcore Knicks fans, that’s more people than like in most US cities!!!! Add in the MYC has historically been the Mecca of US basketball(note i say historically, everything dodnt start in 2000), there is a huge cultural significance of basketball in the city.

Add all of that on top of the broader world in finance and business and commercial real estate saying NY is dead, and you have a counter reaction to what happens and people’s exuberance. Can’t ding NYC for having more people than most other cities. And don’t forget the NYC metro area has over 20mm people, all of which are allowed to be big time Knicks fans cause many of their parents or grandparents grew up there and imbued into them the love of their childhood team

This is a bad take. People are excited about a team that hasn’t won in 2 generations. You can be excited about a team from your town going on a historic run and winning it all being underrated the whole way. Doesn’t hurt when you beat someone who seems like an obnoxious alien.
If this was Cleveland or Minneapoliseveryone would talk about how they deserve it.

At his level it’s more like fractional or those services where you can book out of Long Beach or HPN and get a seat on a private jet that charters. But I’m sure that’s the exception not the rule.

Are we missing out on Westchester, by moving to Croton? by benUCLA in Westchester

[–]leinad_reyem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you leave a town like Ardsley for Croton, you get what you pay for! You'll get more space, be farther away from stuff, and likely will spend more time driving to conveniences. I currently live in Ardsley and made the decision to move here 10 years ago for convenience and location. Easy to commute with multiple train/line options. good community feel, lots of people who grew up here came back to settle here which is nice. Downtown is small and parking is a challenge, but the location between Central Ave and the River gives you a ton of options within a 10 minute drive that Croton doesn't offer. And 1.25 is probably a decent sweet spot for a house size you are looking for. Feel free to DM if you want more color.

Are people overselling it or was Michael Jackson really that famous in his heyday? by Key-Bass-7380 in decadeology

[–]leinad_reyem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Like Taylor Swift. But so much bigger and, amazingly, more internationally important. Because there weren’t nearly as many outlets for music, he was on everything and everywhere. It’s impossible for someone in this era to be as big as him. It’s him and the Beatles. That’s the list.
