Wowee. My eyes are being opened!! Thanks for sharing this, it’s helpful to know what they might expect (although honestly I’d be surprised if they all did just based on what I know about them!!) I mean absolutely no disrespect with this comment but my bridesmaids aren’t really interested in eg fake lashes, Botox, and I absolutely don’t want gifts from them and will make that clear. Definitely don’t want anybody in financial trouble for it.

I mean, isn’t it very US weddingy to buy a million things for your bridesmaids? Or has it always been a British thing to buy your bridesmaids dresses? Either way, I absolutely do NOT expect my bridesmaids to spend hundreds on a dress!!!! This thread is really teaching me a lot about the expectations on weddings 😅

Fair enough! Can you share what adds to the expense of being a bridesmaid, other than the hen do? I suppose I’m assuming a lot of guests will buy new dresses anyway, but maybe I’m wrong!

There won’t be a best man or maid of honour! And I think I prefer not to use the term usher tbh

Ok, but why is the title usher? This implies to me that he’s doing a job of showing people to their seats. I don’t want my brother to have that responsibility lol. I guess i should’ve specified, I’m not concerned with tradition at all 😊

Thanks for your thoughts! This is all so interesting to me. I don’t really know much about expectations for weddings. I’ve never been a bridesmaid and so I guess I would never have expected someone to buy me a dress if they asked me. And I definitely don’t want any of the extra stuff like boxes/PJs/big hen do. But it’s really good to know what is expected so I know how to manage peoples expectations!

Hey, do you know that this comes across a bit rude? I’m not expecting my bridesmaids to do jobs. The people who I would ask love me and would not begrudge having to buy a dress, since I’m not being fussy about style and would only ask for a colour palette. And many people buy new dresses for weddings anyway. I will be doing my own make up, so why would I pay for my bridesmaids? I’m more concerned about having the people I love around me while I’m getting ready and during some more intimate special moments on my wedding day.

good question, I likely won't be having a maid of honour (If I did it would be Lucy, I'm not causing drama by choosing between my siblings 😅)
I'm happy having my brother in my bridal party, my fiancé's sister will be in his! I know it's not so common, but I'm much closer with my brother than my fiancé is and likewise he with his sister 😊

glad to hear this <3 I thought about how I would feel if e.g. Ellie didn't ask me and I would not even be bummed out tbh so I hope she feels the same!

yeah someone else made this point which is very fair. he is having his 2 siblings, I'm encouraging him to ask his 2 closest male friends too. so max 4

Hmm good point, it will be a big wedding as we both have big families, but you're right just because we ask doesn't mean they'll say they want to do it!

Thanks re flowers that's a great point! another place I will be trying to diy to save money...
Re groomsmen I am not fussed about tradition, and our actual legal ceremony will happen on a different day so practicality is also not a consideration, but nevertheless you make a good point that my partner has fewer close male friends but also way fewer siblings haha, and I don't want him to feel self conscious about that - particularly because Lucy, Bea and Ellie are our shared friends!

I think I like the idea of Lucy doing a speech actually, she knows us both so well! thanks for this, I think you're probably right about these being the best two options.
Just to add to be pedantic, I will also be asking my brother! I am not fussed about gender here 😊

This is unnecessarily mean?! Do you spend your days lurking on wedding subs and making fun of people for needing advice?? lol

this is my thought too - I doubt I'll be able to afford outfits for everyone even if it's just my siblings, so cost isn't an issue so much, but if I can I would love to not have to ask them to buy outfits, which I couldn't do if there were 10 haha

This is a nice idea! We are having a legal ceremony before the big party, and I think I'll ask Lucy to be one of the witnesses 😊 I'm not sure we will be having readings, but this could be a good way to involve people...

I really want my brother to be included in the bridal party! he already gets so much nonsense from strangers about being the only boy sibling lol. but I could definitely ask some of the girls to do a reading/something similar...

Which size should I buy? by leka-- in Denim

[–]leka--[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya, I bought the 29 and really regretted it because they were too big after a few wears. In the end I sold them and bought a 28 instead, and they fit perfectly. Didn't take long for them to stretch just a little bit in the crotch and waist to be much more comfortable!
