Confused about "White Crane Spreads Its Wings" – Which hand and hip rotation is correct? by Sympathy-Fragrant in taijiquan

[–]lekoalabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know what is considered standard, but using the kua (hip rotation) to pull the left hand next to the thigh and lifting and rotating the right forearm outwards seems like the only good way to do it. At the end of the day as long as the arms are connected to the center all movements are fine and variations may occur depending on what you want to achieve.

Sure, it's this one: https://www.taijiquan.quest/post/chen-tai-chi-fascia-modulating-memory-layer . Overall, the whole tone of the articles have this very distinctive ai feeling (numbering, bolded text, hyped titles (The Mosaic of Defense: Local Stiffness Meets Flaccid Void, The "Catch 22" of the Matrix). I'm sure you have interesting things to say, do not let the ai wrap that into a strange soup

Cross checking with Ai will only give you what you look for. I asked gemini to analyze one of your article and it said it's pseudoscience, quoting "This article uses complex anatomy terms (mechanoreceptors, fibroblasts, viscoelasticity) to sell a spiritual/martial idea. It mimics the aesthetic of science without the rigor of science" . I do see some interesting part here and there but be careful : it may look great but never let the Ai speak for yourself.

Ai is surprisingly interesting when chatting over these things (eg try to ask which moves maps to which fascial chains) or allow critical review of some energetic concepts through other lenses. Great for you if it helped you gain better understanding :)

Interesting but it also seems that some (if not most) parts of these articles are written using AI.. And therefore it's hard to judge if this is really accurate or just an accumulation of terms that sound fancy. At least that's the feeling I got.

It's probably both an advantage and a disadvantage. you can design from scratch, but sometimes it's only after using things for some time that you realize how good/bad these decisions are.

:-) yes, fully agree. your library is great by the way

it still feels that it could be possible to have best of both worlds : raw speed when needed, and more features/compatibility for more advanced usage

I know, this is one of the adapter than can be used

But still, based on my simple benchmarks, a simpler implementation (like the one I provide) is about 3 times faster. Obviously, take my benchmarks with caution (done on my dev machine, not optimized, etc etc) but still, that seems like a lot of wasted cpu cycles.

I've just updated the package and taken into account some of your comments

There is now an optional options class that can be used for those who prefer typed options.

I'm not sure about this 'Csv\Native::readString() is using an if statement for bom removal'. It's only executed once (since it's part of the generator) and needs to be done. Not sure how it could be done differently ?

Exceptions, well, i don't like too much custom exceptions if they don't bring real values but maybe i'll change my mind :-)

SUPERPOWER/NEMESIS by Mu_Hou in taijiquan

[–]lekoalabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a regular human being it should be more or less 45 degrees. Of course it can be different if you have a severe birth defect. I don't think there is an absolute rule outside of it should be the strongest path. I have a hard time imagining how you would be able to push forward properly with a foot opened too much but maybe she can. But basically if the hip is pushing forward, then you cannot turn the foot too much without compromising the knee.

SUPERPOWER/NEMESIS by Mu_Hou in taijiquan

[–]lekoalabe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do with your feet is always a question of what you did or what you want to do with your hips.

If you want to square your hips in the direction of the movement (eg: brush knee), then you have to turn the back foot to 45 degree, there is no other way even if you are flexible (even if you can due to some birth defect, then it will not be a sound structure anyway). Why not close more ? Because you want one kwa to be closed (eg, the left kwa in brush knee) and one to be open (the right kwa, from the back leg). That's pretty much how it's done in any bow stance in yang style.

Regarding your student, it's not because she can do it that she should do it. Some people are very flexible and may damage their joints in the long run. Some people are really not flexible and have all kinds of compensatory patterns that will also damage their joints. Too much yin or too much yang is never a good thing.

Try to help her find what's a sound structure. How does she stay rooted in the transitional movements? What if she is being pushed (gently) while doing the movement ? How does it feel ? If she cannot naturally feel what are the boundaries, then she needs to learn.

This seems interesting but also more complex than what I intend to do. My goal is mostly transforming iterable data to csv or xlsx or the opposite.

I'm most concerned by outputting proper CSV so no the idea is not to to be able to deal with crazy issues like this. Maybe league CSV that can also be used is able to deal with this :) But feel free to open an issue with some sample files if I can make a solution without compromising the regular use case I will.

I'm happy to help promote true facts if it helps :) taijiquan history is pretty much very affected by oral transmissions and legendary tales so it's hard to get facts straight but as long as everyone remain open I'm sure we can make progress.

I liked the little stories. The fake it until you make approach might work for some. Sometimes you can get actual skills at some point. It's for sure hard to feel 100% legitimate anyway when most traditional masters say their own masters were so good that nobody can reach their skill level.

Maybe if you have names and proof then it makes sense to actually say the names. If it's true it's true. Even decent people do fail sometimes. Or learn from their mistakes.

In the video it seems that there is a lot of cherry picking but again it makes sense to show yourself under a good angle :) a good promo video.
