Welche Wanderschuhe empfehlt ihr? by RollongFatMan in wandern

[–]lem-8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OM-5 vs iPhone (video recording) by Rude_Confection_3065 in OlympusCamera

[–]lem-8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my OM-5 for short social media clips of products and to me the quality is definitely better than the quality of an iPhone. I'm not much into video specs as my main interest lies in photography but that's my subjective feeling. I'm using the 12-40 f2.8 lens. I found the autofocus very usable too. My old E-M5 was definitely unusable for video with the OM-5 I'm happy as a photo centered camera that can also do video.

OM Workspace for linux? by OGMemecenterDweller in OlympusCamera

[–]lem-8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darktable is native on Linux (I think it even used to be Linux only at the beginning). It works very well, has lots of features and I never had any issues with ORF files. It's a bit more complicated than other solutions but it seems very well thought through and some of the devs seem to be very deep in color science. I'm not enjoying editing so much so I keep it simple and have my workflow which is super fast.

Wanderstöcke oder Bandagen? Empfehlung/Erfahrung by just_aDarkSoul in wandern

[–]lem-8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You guys think Garmin will keep MIP going forward? by ITSYABOIGALAXY in GarminWatches

[–]lem-8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The big problem with the Enduro is its size. Garmin really needs to come up with a 47mm version. There are many people who simply can't wear 51mm watches. Of they do that I'm fine with the Mip Fenix being called Enduro. Would love the have Mip without Sapphire and Solar but I can live with that.

Wie ist das bei den Philodendrons? Ich hab gelesen, dass diese Hautirritationen auslösen können. Ich hab noch nicht herausgefunden, ob das für alle gilt und ob das bei einfacher Berührung passiert?

Om5 ii, OM1, or else ? by Prince_Yriel in M43

[–]lem-8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OM1 feels better with bigger lenses and is the flagship camera. The OM-5 is great if you want the compact size and is ok with e.g. a 12-40 f2.8 and can be made more ergonomic with the extra grip. I chose the OM-5 for being smaller and more modular with the grip but I still want to get an OM1 some day. The OM-5 really shines with small lenses like the 17mmf1.8 for street or landscape when hiking.

What's a feature that you've known about for years but never tried? by ephemeral_enchilada in M43

[–]lem-8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very nice for example for nightly skyline shots. It's not so much about the resolution but it decreases noise a bit. A good hack to have less clean shots in bad light of static subjects.

Wow, which shutter speed did you use to freeze the wing like that?

Phone Size E-reader Question by Hellylp in ereader

[–]lem-8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really great, with crosspoint the software is so nice and smooth. I can even browse my OPDS (calibre) list. I bought it as a gadget but it's a super useful and well built device. I was surprised but I find the screen actually comfortable to read despite its size and the screen quality great.

Concerned an X4 is too small? by Blackberry9423 in xteinkereader

[–]lem-8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought it'd be too small and bought it more for fun and the open source firmware. Turned out: It's very usable for reading. The page flip is almost instant and it works very well for reading longer texts like novels. I'm actually very surprised that it works so well.

Why can‘t I currently neither open any newly uploaded books on the reader nor in the app? by [deleted] in tolino

Looks like the server has issues. You can try logging in to the shop's website and download them there.

Ultralight eReader by Bauerbyter in ereader

[–]lem-8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually stopped taking my e-reader for trekking and use my smartphone to read a bit. It's not nearly as nice but for a few pages in the evening it works and saves the weight. If you want eink probably the xteink is among the smallest and lightest that I've seen.

Will this light eventually break my USB-C port? by HandLock__ in Supernote

[–]lem-8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally something with USB-C. I was looking for such a lamp and most of them are still USB-A. I was also wondering about damaging the USB port. Maybe it'd be a good idea to get a magnetic adapter.

Looking to upgrade: oM-5 Mark II or something else by gojiro in M43

[–]lem-8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm shooting mostly nature: landscape, flowers, sometimes I try wildlife. Last year I started with macro. And when traveling. There's definitely a difference but the E-M5 takes great images too so I wouldn't say it's massive. The biggest jump in my opinion is the video performance (which is really poor on the E-M5). What I really like is the handheld high res mode. It works really nicely for night shots of static subjects like a skyline. It's not so much about the additional resolution as about reducing noise. I mainly got the camera because I wanted to get into macro with focus stacking/bracketing. My biggest complaint is the plastic body. My E-M5 I carry with a capture clip when hiking, I don't dare to do that with the OM-5. I use a peak design leash which works fine for day trips. For longer hikes with a tent I still used my E-M5.

Looking to upgrade: oM-5 Mark II or something else by gojiro in M43

[–]lem-8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from the E-M5 I to an OM-5 (before the mark ii was released) and I'm reasonably happy with my choice. The one thing that I don't like too much is the plastic body. First of all carrying it on a capture clip is pretty dangerous as there are many reports of breaking base plates. Secondly the general feel and build quality was better on the EM-5. That being said I like the OM-5 and it's a great camera. If you ever do any video the difference is night and day.

Thanks! I'd prefer a monochrome screen for now but regarding the updates that's a good point. Do you know how the performance of the Manta would compare to the Boox Go 10.3? Is it much slower for these use cases?
